Front alternatives: 13 compared

Teams look past Front when the seat price climbs from $25 to $65 to $105 as they add channels and rules, when Copilot and Autopilot are billed on top, or when they want a ticket queue rather than a shared inbox. Most move to Help Scout or Hiver for a lighter inbox, and to Freshdesk or Zendesk for a ticketing desk.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Front in our help desk software ranking are Help Scout, Hiver and Freshdesk. Choose Help Scout if you want a plain shared inbox with a free entry plan and published per-user prices. All 13 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Help Desk Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Front and when Front is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Facts from our help desk software ranking, last checked October 23, 2026.

Why buyers look past Front

  1. Seat price climbs with every step

Starter is $25 a seat a month billed annually, Professional $65 and Enterprise $105. Starter stops at 10 seats and Professional at 50, so a growing team passes a cap before it passes a price point.

  2. Channels and rules are gated by tier

Starter supports a single channel type, with up to 10 automation rules. Professional adds omnichannel and 20 rules. Unlimited rules, custom roles and custom reports wait for Enterprise, so mature routing costs the most.

  3. AI is sold as add-ons below Enterprise

Copilot is $20 per seat a month on Starter and Professional, and Autopilot starts at $0.05 per conversation. Enterprise includes Copilot, QA and CSAT. A team that wants AI help on a mid-tier plan pays twice.

When Front is still the right choice

Front is the right choice when several departments answer the same customer thread and need comments, assignment and handoffs inside one inbox. It starts with a 14-day trial on Professional features and needs no card. If your team is under 50 seats and email-heavy, the extra gates may never matter.

What to expect when you switch from Front

  1. Pull conversations through the API

Front's developer docs list endpoints to list and search conversations, their messages and comments, and an analytics export of messages or events. The default limit is 50 requests per minute, varying by plan, and extra capacity is $200 per 100 requests a minute.

  2. Watch the renewal and the 30-day export window

The service agreement renews for successive 12-month periods, and termination must be requested at least 30 days before the term ends. After termination Front makes customer data available for retrieval for 30 days, then deletes it.

  3. Reduce seats at renewal, not mid-term

Under the agreement, charges are billed in advance and are nonrefundable. A downgrade or fewer seats needs 30 days' written notice before the term ends, and the agreement warns downgrading may cause loss of data or features.

Questions and answers

Can I export my conversations from Front?

Yes, through the Core API, which can list and search conversations and return their messages and comments. An analytics export covers messages and events over a chosen period. Plan the run before termination, because the agreement gives 30 days of retrieval afterwards.

How long do I have access to my data after I leave Front?

30 days after termination, according to the SaaS services agreement. Front then deletes customer data under its Data Deletion Policy. Export through the API while the account is active.

How much notice does Front need to cancel?

At least 30 days before the end of the current subscription term, sent to Front's support address given in the agreement. Terms renew automatically for 12 months, and subscription charges are billed in advance and are nonrefundable.

Will the API rate limit slow a large export?

It can. The default is 50 requests per minute, varying by plan, and enforced per company. A large archive therefore needs hours rather than minutes, or a paid increase of $200 per 100 requests a minute.

Is there a free Front plan?

No. The pricing page shows Starter, Professional and Enterprise, and a 14-day free trial of Professional features without a credit card. Free tiers elsewhere include Help Scout (five users) and HubSpot Service Hub.

Does Front charge extra for AI?

Below Enterprise, yes. Copilot is $20 per seat a month on Starter and Professional, and Autopilot starts at $0.05 per conversation. Enterprise includes Copilot, QA and CSAT. Check the add-on price before you compare seat totals.
