SonarQube alternatives: 11 compared

Teams look past SonarQube when private lines of code set the bill, when they want AI pull request review in the same product, or when they would rather pay per developer. Most go to Codacy for a like-for-like platform, or to DeepSource and Snyk Code for security depth.

Short answer: The closest replacements for SonarQube in our AI code review tools ranking are Codacy, DeepSource and Snyk Code. Choose Codacy if you want quality gates and security scans without paying by lines of code. Everything below is drawn from the Best AI Code Review Tools in 2026 shortlist and judged only against SonarQube, including when it is wiser to remain with SonarQube.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Why buyers look past SonarQube

  1. The bill follows lines of code

SonarQube Cloud is bought for a maximum number of private lines of code, starting at $34 a month for 100k, and only the largest branch of each project counts. SonarQube Server is priced per instance per year by lines of code. A growing repository raises the price without a single new reviewer.

  2. AI review is a separate product

Sonar sells its AI pull request reviewer, Gitar, as its own plan at $20 per user per month, billed annually. SonarQube itself applies rules and quality gates. Teams that want one tool to do both rule checks and contextual review compare platforms that bundle them.

  3. The free tier stops at 50k lines

The free SonarQube Cloud tier covers private projects up to 50k lines of code. The Team plan is for under 50 developers, and above that Sonar asks for a sales conversation. Teams that need more private code without a quote look at per-developer pricing.

What each alternative does differently

1. Codacy

Portugal

The closest like-for-like swap: quality, SAST, SCA, secrets and coverage in one cloud platform, with merge gates and an AI Reviewer. The Team plan is capped at 30 developers and 100 private repositories, but lines of code are not metered. Codacy publishes a SonarQube comparison page.

Switch from SonarQube if you want quality gates and security scans without paying by lines of code.

2. DeepSource

United States

Static analysis, SAST, secrets detection and code coverage priced per user, with Autofix and an AI Review billed from a credit allowance. The vendor page now says DeepSource has joined Harness. Self-hosted and bring-your-own-key deployment are Enterprise only, so Server users need a quote.

Switch from SonarQube if you want automatic fixes on pull requests and usage-based AI review.

DeepSource in our ranking · Go to the vendor →

3. Snyk Code

United States

A security-first scanner: Snyk Code is SAST, sold next to open-source dependency, container and infrastructure scanning. The Free plan allows 100 Snyk Code tests a month and the Team plan 1,000. Its plan pages list no duplication or maintainability metrics.

Switch from SonarQube if your main goal is vulnerability scanning across code and dependencies.

Snyk Code in our ranking · Go to the vendor →

4. Sourcery

United Kingdom

An AI reviewer with security scanning added on the Team plan, which runs nightly scans of 50 repositories. Open Source is free for public repositories. Enterprise adds self-hosting and GitHub Enterprise Server. It reviews pull requests rather than enforcing a project-wide quality gate on a dashboard.

Switch from SonarQube if you want reviewer comments and fixes more than a rules dashboard.

Sourcery in our ranking · Go to the vendor →

5. CodeRabbit

United States

Agentic pull request review in the pull request, CLI and IDE, with pre-merge checks, one-click fixes and chat with the agent. Higher plans add continuous security monitoring. It reasons about the change rather than applying a fixed rule set, so it complements or replaces SonarQube depending on the checks you must prove.

Switch from SonarQube if you want a reviewer that comments in context rather than a rule engine.

CodeRabbit in our ranking · Go to the vendor →

6. Greptile

United States

Reviews by credit: Pro has no seat fees and each review costs one to ten credits at $1 per credit, shared across the organization. This differs from the seat price in our table. Self-hosting, SSO and on-premises Git hosts such as GitLab Self-Managed need Enterprise.

Switch from SonarQube if you want usage-based billing and have few reviewers but many repositories.

Greptile in our ranking · Go to the vendor →

7. Qodo

Israel

Pays by pooled credits, from a 2,500-credit pack, with no annual commitment on the Pro Team plan and a design limit of 30 users. Rules are written once and applied to every review. SSO, audit logs, bring-your-own-keys and on-premises deployment are Enterprise only.

Switch from SonarQube if you want pooled credits and your own review rules enforced on each pull request.

Qodo in our ranking · Go to the vendor →

8. CodeAnt AI

United States

Sold as separate product tiers for AI Code Review, Code Security, Code Quality and Dev Metrics, plus an AI pentest. Dollar amounts render only in the browser, so we cannot quote them. The company lists a San Francisco address, and a 14-day free trial needs no card.

Switch from SonarQube if you want security, quality and delivery metrics bought as separate pieces.

CodeAnt AI in our ranking · Go to the vendor →

9. Graphite

United States

A pull request workflow tool first: stacked PRs through a CLI, a merge queue and an inbox, with AI review on top. The Team plan has unlimited AI reviews. It targets GitHub, and it does not run a standing code-quality scan across a codebase like SonarQube.

Switch from SonarQube if your slow point is pull request flow and merging, not scanning rules.

Graphite in our ranking · Go to the vendor →

10. GitHub Copilot code review

United States

Pull request review inside GitHub, included from the Pro plan upward and not on Free. Reviews draw on AI credits rather than lines of code. Because it is part of Copilot it only helps teams that host on GitHub, and the pages we read show no quality gate.

Switch from SonarQube if your code already lives on GitHub and you already pay for Copilot.

GitHub Copilot code review in our ranking · Go to the vendor →

11. Bito

United States

Per-seat reviews in Git, IDE and CLI, with 5K lines per seat per month included and extra lines billed. Self-hosting is a $5 per seat add-on on Professional. Bito now stresses a context engine and agent-spend tools, so check which product you would buy before comparing.

Switch from SonarQube if you want per-seat review in the IDE and can accept a line allowance per seat.

When SonarQube is still the right choice

Stay with SonarQube if the quality gate is a compliance artifact. Sonar's own plans mention OWASP and MISRA reporting on Enterprise, and SonarQube Server runs fully in your network. The free Community Build, an LGPL-3.0 open-source edition, also keeps a small team at zero license cost. No alternative on this page matches that mix of self-hosting and free open-source code.

What to expect when you switch from SonarQube

  1. Rules and gates will not carry over

Quality profiles, quality gates and security hotspot reviews are SonarQube concepts. Most alternatives use their own rule sets and merge checks, so expect to rebuild thresholds and re-triage old findings. Run both tools on the same branches for a few sprints before removing Sonar.

  2. Pull your history first

SonarQube Server exposes a Web API for its data, and Sonar's docs describe Web API v2 gradually replacing the original. Export open issues and project measures through it before the subscription ends. Alternatives will start with a fresh baseline instead of your old trend lines.

Questions and answers

Can I export my SonarQube issues before leaving?

Yes, through the Web API that SonarQube Server provides for its functionality. Authenticate with a bearer token and read issues and measures per project. We did not find an official bulk export of full history, so keep the API output as your own archive.

Is there a free SonarQube I can keep using?

Yes. Sonar publishes the SonarQube Community Build as free and open source under LGPL-3.0, and SonarQube Cloud has a free tier for private projects up to 50k lines. Both are narrower than the paid editions, so check your language list first.

How does SonarQube price a growing codebase?

By lines of code. SonarQube Cloud counts private lines, using the largest branch of each project, and Server editions are priced per instance per year by lines of code. Analysis frequency does not change the count. Per-developer tools bill by headcount instead.

Does SonarQube include AI pull request review?

Not in the SonarQube plan itself. Sonar sells Gitar AI Code Review as a separate $20 per user per month plan, billed annually. Competitors such as CodeRabbit, Greptile and Qodo make AI review their main product.

Can I self-host after leaving SonarQube Server?

Only with some alternatives. DeepSource, Greptile, Sourcery, Qodo and Bito list self-hosted or on-premises deployment, mostly on Enterprise plans or as an add-on. The pricing pages we read for Codacy, CodeRabbit and Snyk Code mention no self-hosted option, so confirm hosting before you switch.
