Adobe Firefly alternatives: 12 compared

Buyers look past Adobe Firefly when they want one model family without a monthly credit allowance, an API rather than an app, or an image tool with a different legal footing. Recraft is the closest design-oriented alternative, Krea and Magnific cover the multi-model workspace, and Bria and Getty cover licensed-data generation.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Adobe Firefly in our AI image generators ranking are Recraft, Krea and Magnific (formerly Freepik). Choose Recraft if you want vector and design-style output without a full Creative Cloud app. All 12 alternatives below are ranked products from Best AI Image Generators in 2026, and each says where it differs from Adobe Firefly and when Adobe Firefly is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Adobe Firefly at a glance

  • Headquarters: United States
  • Pricing model: Free + paid tiers
  • Pricing: Firefly Standard is US$9.99/mo with 2,000 generative credits, Firefly Pro US$19.99/mo with 4,000; team licenses start at US$19.99/mo per license on annual billing, and there are free daily generations.
  • Free option: Free plan
  • Built for: Companies already paying for Adobe
  • Wrong for: A developer who wants weights to run on company hardware gets nothing of the kind from Adobe; Black Forest Labs, Stability AI and Bria do that. Teams with no other Adobe subscription may find Recraft simpler to buy.

Why buyers look past Adobe Firefly

  1. Credits cap monthly use

Firefly plans are metered in generative credits: Standard includes 2,000 a month and Pro 4,000, and video, audio and translation draw from separate allowances. Heavy users compare that ceiling with usage-based APIs that bill per image.

  2. Indemnification sits with enterprise

Adobe's plans page says eligible enterprise customers can receive IP indemnification for select outputs, and it lists no such cover for individual or team plans. Buyers who need contractual protection compare vendors that state it on a public price page.

  3. Other models are inside the app anyway

Adobe's plans page names partner models in Firefly, including GPT Image, Gemini and FLUX for images. Teams that mainly want those models can buy them directly, by API or in a workspace built around many models.

What each alternative does differently

1. Recraft

Raster and vector image generator with its own models · United States

Image generator built around its own models, with raster and vector output and a community gallery. Paid subscribers own and can use their images commercially; on the free plan, Recraft owns the images and they are public. It has no Photoshop-style suite behind it.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if you want vector and design-style output without a full Creative Cloud app.

Pricing: Basic is $12 per month billed monthly, or $10 per month billed annually, for 1,000 credits; Pro and Teams tiers scale from 2,000 to 16,000 credits, and the API sells 1,000 units for $1.00. (free plan)

2. Krea

Multi-model image and video workspace metered in compute units · United States

Browser workspace that runs many image, video and 3D models on one compute-unit balance. The free tier gives 100 units a day, and it offers real-time generation, LoRA training and a node editor. It is metered by usage, not by an Adobe-style plan ladder.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if you want to try many models in one workspace on a free daily allowance.

Pricing: Free tier with 100 compute units a day; paid plans start at $10 per month with 20% off for annual billing (Basic 4,000, Pro 20,000 and Max 54,000 compute units a month); Enterprise is custom. (free plan)

3. Magnific (formerly Freepik)

AI image and video suite with a stock library attached · Spain

Suite for images, video, audio and 3D that sits on the Freepik stock library of 250M+ assets. Credits last a year with no monthly reset, and every paid plan carries a commercial AI licence. The price page states no indemnity, and it lists no free plan.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if you also buy stock assets and want credits that do not reset monthly.

Pricing: Premium is €16 per month or €12 per month billed annually (240K credits a year); Premium+ is €36 or €27 (600K credits a year); Pro Starter is €88 or €66 (1.5M credits a year). (none)

4. Generative AI by Getty Images

Indemnified image generation from a stock agency · United States

Image generator sold by a stock agency, in prepaid packs of generations instead of a subscription. Getty says it trains only on licensed content and applies its standard indemnification to Medium and Large downloads. It is a narrow generator, not a creative suite.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if your legal team wants a stock-agency license and indemnification on each image.

Pricing: Sold in prepaid packs: the Dutch storefront we were redirected to showed introductory prices of €45 for 25 generations and €139 for 100, valid for one year. (none)

5. Bria

Licensed-data image models for API or private deployment · Israel

Models trained on licensed data, offered by API with 100 free generations and pay-as-you-go prices from US$0.018. Enterprise adds unlimited IP indemnification, per-image attribution and on-prem or own-cloud deployment. It is built for developers and product teams, not for designers.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if you need licensed-data models you can call by API or host privately.

Pricing: Free plan with 100 free generations; pay-as-you-go starts from $0.018 per generation; Enterprise is custom-priced with on-prem or bring-your-own-cloud deployment. (free plan)

6. Black Forest Labs (FLUX)

FLUX image models by API or as open weights · Germany

Maker of the FLUX models, sold as a pay-as-you-go API with no subscription or seat fees. It also licenses open weights for self-hosting in tiers by monthly image volume. There is no editing app, so a team needs its own interface.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if you want the FLUX models directly, by API or on your own servers.

Pricing: API is prepaid in credits worth $0.01 each: FLUX.2 [klein] 4B from $0.014 per image, FLUX.2 [pro] from $0.03, FLUX.2 [max] from $0.07, priced by megapixel; self-hosting licenses are tiered by monthly image volume with prices shown only in the dashboard or by quote. (open source)

7. Photoroom

AI product photography and background editing · France

Aimed at product photography: background removal, staging and catalog tools, with Pro, Max and Ultra plans of 8,000, 25,000 and 75,000 AI credits. Paid plans include API and MCP credits. It is not a general art generator and offers no free plan.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if most of your images are product shots for a shop or marketplace.

Pricing: Pro is $9/month billed yearly with 8,000 AI credits, Max $19/month with 25,000 and Ultra $59/month with 75,000; the API charges $0.02 per image for background removal and $0.10 per image for the Plus editing tier. (free trial)

8. getimg.ai

Multi-model creative workspace from Poland · Poland

Workspace that gives access to a changing list of third-party models for image, video and audio on monthly credits, from Entry (8,000) up to higher tiers. Plans state commercial rights and offer top-up credits. Its own model is not the draw.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if you want several outside models on one monthly credit plan.

Pricing: Four published monthly tiers (Entry, Core, Plus, Ultra) from 8,000 to 107,500 credits a month, cheaper on yearly billing; the two pages we fetched showed different currencies, so no figure is quoted here. (none)

Full review: #9 of 13 in our ranking · Visit getimg.ai →

9. Stability AI

Stable Diffusion models to self-host or call by API · United Kingdom

Maker of Stable Diffusion, with models you can self-host under a Community License that is free below US$1M in annual revenue. Larger companies need an Enterprise License. It supplies models and an API, not a design application for non-technical staff.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if you want to run the models on your own infrastructure.

Pricing: Core models are free under the Community License unless you use them commercially and your organization makes over USD $1M a year, in which case a paid Enterprise License is required; the API and Stable Assistant are metered in credits whose dollar price we could not read. (free plan)

10. Google Gemini API (Nano Banana)

Google's Nano Banana image models by API · United States

Google's Nano Banana image models, reached by API and priced per image. Images carry a SynthID watermark, and the models edit uploaded pictures through conversation with up to 14 reference images. It is a developer interface, so no template or layout tools come with it.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if your developers want Google's image models inside their own product.

Pricing: Paid tier only for the image models: Gemini 3.1 Flash Image works out at $0.067 per 1K image and $0.151 per 4K image; Gemini 3 Pro Image at $0.134 per 1K or 2K image and $0.24 per 4K image. (none)

Switch from Adobe Firefly if you want to call many image models through one developer API.

Pricing: Pay per output: Seedream V4 is $0.03 per image, Flux Kontext Pro $0.04 per image and Qwen $0.02 per megapixel, with GPU compute billed separately by the hour. (none)

Full review: #8 of 13 in our ranking · Visit fal →

12. Replicate

Pay-per-use API for running published AI models · United States

Pay-per-use platform for running published models, billed per output image or by hardware time. Public models run on shared hardware, so cold starts can occur, and private models run on dedicated hardware. It is infrastructure, not a creative tool.

Switch from Adobe Firefly if you want to run open image models by API and pay only for use.

Pricing: Usage-based: FLUX 1.1 Pro is $0.04 per output image, FLUX Schnell $3.00 per thousand output images, Ideogram V3 Quality $0.09 per output image; other models bill by hardware time, for example $0.000225 per second on an Nvidia T4. (none)

When Adobe Firefly is still the right choice

Firefly remains the right choice when designers already work in Photoshop, Illustrator or Express and want generation inside those apps. It also fits a team that wants several partner models plus Adobe's own under one login and one credit pool, and enterprises that can obtain the IP indemnification Adobe offers on eligible plans. Moving to a standalone generator gives up that integration.

What to expect when you switch from Adobe Firefly

  1. Check what is in your Adobe account

Generated images you saved sit in your Adobe storage and in the files you exported, so download what you need before you cancel. Adobe's guidelines also require that Content Credentials are not removed, so keep them on files you republish.

  2. Rebuild prompts and styles

Prompts written for Firefly's models will not give the same results elsewhere, and credits do not carry over. Run a sample of real briefs through two or three candidates before committing, and compare cost per usable image rather than per generation.

Questions and answers

Can I use my Firefly images commercially after I leave Adobe?

Adobe's plans page says outputs from Firefly models can be used commercially, and it does not tie that to staying subscribed. Check Adobe's current terms for your plan, and check the licence of the new tool, because free plans elsewhere can differ.

Does Firefly have a free plan I can fall back on?

Yes. Adobe's plans page offers free daily generations across image, video and audio, with limits that refresh daily and no stated credit count. Several alternatives also have free tiers, such as Krea with 100 units a day.

Do unused Firefly credits roll over?

We could not read Adobe's credits FAQ, which returned an access error, so we cannot confirm rollover. Plans are described as monthly allowances, for example 2,000 credits on Standard, so assume they reset and use them before you cancel.

Which alternatives offer indemnification?

Bria lists unlimited IP indemnification on its Enterprise plan, and Getty applies its standard indemnification to Medium and Large downloads. Adobe offers it to eligible enterprise customers only, so ask each vendor for the contract text.

Can I run an alternative on my own servers?

Yes, with some. Black Forest Labs licenses FLUX open weights by monthly image volume, Stability AI's Community License allows self-hosting, and Bria offers on-prem or own-cloud deployment on Enterprise. Firefly is a hosted service only.

Will my existing Firefly prompts work elsewhere?

Partly. Adobe names FLUX and Gemini models inside Firefly, so those prompts carry over to the same models by API or in other workspaces. Prompts tuned to Adobe's own models will give different results.
