Pendo alternatives: 11 compared

Teams look past Pendo when they cannot get a price without a sales call, or when they want in-app guides without paying for an analytics suite. Most go to Userpilot or Whatfix for a comparable scope, to Appcues or Chameleon for no-code flows, and to Product Fruits, UserGuiding or Produktly when they want a published price.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Pendo in our digital adoption platform software ranking are Userpilot, Whatfix and Appcues. Choose Userpilot if you want analytics and guides in one product and a list price to budget against. Each of the 11 options is a ranked entry in Best Digital Adoption Platform Software in 2026; the notes explain how it differs from Pendo and where Pendo still wins.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Why buyers look past Pendo

  1. Paid plans have no published price

Base, Core and Ultimate show a Request pricing button and the line Custom MAU volume. Pendo says the cost per monthly active user falls as volume rises, so the figure is negotiated. Only Pendo Free, at 500 users, can be evaluated without a conversation.

  2. Features are split across bundles

Session replay starts at Core. Sentiment surveys, journey orchestration and Data Sync are part of Ultimate. Product discovery is an add-on below Ultimate. A buyer who needs one capability from a higher bundle has to price the whole step up.

  3. The free plan stops at the cap

On Pendo Free, going over 500 monthly active users blocks new guides, NPS surveys and segments until you upgrade. Paid plans keep running over the limit, and a Pendo representative contacts you about a contract adjustment.

What each alternative does differently

1. Userpilot

United States

Closest in scope, with in-app flows, product analytics and an AI agent called Lia in one MAU-priced product. Starter at $299 a month covers 2,000 users. Session replays (5,000 a month) arrive with Growth, and mobile engagement and warehouse sync only at the quoted Enterprise tier.

Switch from Pendo if you want analytics and guides in one product and a list price to budget against.

2. Whatfix

United States

Sold for enterprise-wide rollouts rather than single products. It deploys across web, desktop and mobile apps, including Citrix and Azure Virtual Desktop, and offers a self-hosted option with some features unavailable there. All plans are quoted, so the pricing situation does not improve.

Switch from Pendo if the apps you guide include internal or desktop software, not only your own web product.

Vendor website → · Detailed Whatfix write-up

3. Appcues

United States

Every plan carries every experience type; the limit is published experiences, 10 on Start, 25 on Grow and 100 on Enterprise, plus 12 to 36 months of reporting history. Price follows MAU, installations and experiences. The free trial begins with a sales call.

Switch from Pendo if you want one plan to unlock every flow type and can live with a cap on live experiences.

Vendor website → · Detailed Appcues write-up

4. Chameleon

United States

Billed on monthly tracked users rather than active users, from $279 for 2,000 on Startup, which allows 10 live experiences. It adds A/B testing, interactive demos and a HelpBar search launcher, and its AI agents run on credits. On Pro the limit is 20 live experiences.

Switch from Pendo if design control over tours and tests matters more to you than a built-in analytics suite.

Vendor website → · Detailed Chameleon write-up

5. UserGuiding

Turkey

Onboarding tool with a MAU slider on the page and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Growth adds session replay, feature requests and a roadmap. Over the MAU quota, your guides stop showing until you raise it, a harder stop than Pendo's paid plans.

Switch from Pendo if you want a visible price, a refund window and a roadmap board next to the guides.

Vendor website → · Detailed UserGuiding write-up

6. Product Fruits

Czechia

Czech no-code tool with a public MAU slider: Starter is $111 a month at 1,500 users billed yearly, Pro $187, Business $374 with SAML SSO. It includes a knowledge base and the Elvin AI assistant. Session replay does not appear in its plan table.

Switch from Pendo if you want guides, a help center and checklists at a number you can read before talking to anyone.

Vendor website → · Detailed Product Fruits write-up

7. Produktly

Finland

Priced in euros by monthly triggers, not MAU or seats: 19, 59 or 199 a month, each with a 14-day trial and data hosted in Frankfurt. It covers tours, checklists, roadmaps and changelogs for web apps. Native mobile apps are not supported, only webviews.

Switch from Pendo if a small team wants EU-hosted guides without per-user pricing and has no native app to cover.

Vendor website → · Detailed Produktly write-up

8. Userlane

Germany

Prices one application at a fixed annual fee with unlimited users, or by consumption across many applications. It pairs Application Intelligence with in-app assistance, and the vendor says deployment through a browser extension takes about two weeks. Quote only, built for software portfolios.

Switch from Pendo if you guide employees across several business applications and want cost per application, not per user.

Vendor website → · Detailed Userlane write-up

9. WalkMe

Israel

Built for enterprise rollouts, with an Action Bar that appears on web, mobile and desktop. Segments are limited to 10 per system and 50,000 users each, per its pricing page. That page lists capabilities without prices, so the quote-only position stays unchanged.

Switch from Pendo if a large employee base and desktop applications are in scope and you accept a sales-led price.

Vendor website → · Detailed WalkMe write-up

10. Newired

Italy

Italian vendor focused on making users complete processes correctly rather than only pointing at buttons, with guidance enforced in real time inside web-based enterprise applications. Newired S.r.l. markets the product as designed and developed in the EU. Prices are not on the site.

Switch from Pendo if process compliance inside internal web apps is the goal and your data must sit with an EU vendor.

Vendor website → · Detailed Newired write-up

11. Lemon Learning

France

French vendor focused on Salesforce, SAP and Workday, and on legacy and desktop software such as SAP GUI and Citrix, with 50+ supported apps. It says about half of its rollouts run on custom in-house web apps. Quote only.

Switch from Pendo if your main concern is guiding staff in enterprise suites and legacy desktop clients.

When Pendo is still the right choice

Pendo is still the right choice when the same people own analytics, in-app guides and feedback, and one bundle beats three tools. Retroactive analytics from the day of install, a free plan of 500 users and pricing that does not depend on application count or sessions are real advantages. If your volume is large, the declining cost per user may also outweigh the missing price list.

What to expect when you switch from Pendo

  1. Take your data before the contract ends

Pendo's services agreement lets you download end-user data before expiry and request a copy for 90 days after, in an industry-standard format. Deletion follows within 30 days. Data Sync is part of Ultimate, so ask whether it fits your export.

  2. Plan to rebuild guides, not import them

Guides, segments and survey definitions live inside Pendo. None of the vendor pages we read describes an import from Pendo, so budget for rebuilding. Appcues offers a migration team on its pricing page, and a snippet install is quick; Produktly puts it under five minutes.

  3. Expect analytics history to restart

Pendo states that analytics are retroactive from the day you install it. Ask each candidate whether it captures events automatically and from which date, and keep a warehouse export if past trends matter.

Questions and answers

Can I export my data when I leave Pendo?

Yes: the services agreement allows you to download end-user data before expiry and to request a copy for up to 90 days afterward in an industry-standard format. Pendo then deletes it within 30 days unless the law prohibits it. The data processing addendum adds that you choose return or deletion of personal data.

How is Pendo priced beyond the free plan?

Base, Core and Ultimate are priced by monthly active users and quoted on request. Pendo states that pricing does not depend on the number of applications or sessions, and that cost per user falls as volume rises. No figure for any paid tier appears on the pricing page.

Can I cancel Pendo in the middle of a term?

Not freely: the services agreement allows termination for uncured material breach (30 days to fix), insolvency, intellectual property infringement, or after all services have expired. Fees are owed up to the termination date, so the exit date follows your order form. Check the order form for renewal wording.

What happens to my guides if I exceed my user limit?

On a paid plan nothing stops: Pendo keeps everything running and a representative contacts you about a contract change. On Pendo Free, going over 500 monthly active users blocks creation of new guides, NPS surveys and segments until you move to a paid plan.

Which alternatives publish a price I can check today?

Product Fruits, Userpilot, Chameleon, Produktly and UserGuiding show figures, while Appcues publishes plan limits and quotes the price. Whatfix, WalkMe, Userlane, Newired and Lemon Learning give no list prices on the pages we read.

How long does a replacement take to install?

A script install is quick: Pendo says its own snippet takes an hour or less, and Produktly says under five minutes. The slower part is rebuilding flows and segments. Userlane says a browser-extension deployment takes about two weeks, so ask each vendor for a rollout estimate.
