Kit alternatives: 11 compared

People look past Kit when the 2025 price rise lands on a growing list, when automations stay locked behind a paid plan, or when more than two people need access. Most creators go to MailerLite, beehiiv or EmailOctopus for a lower entry cost, and stores go to Omnisend or Klaviyo.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Kit in our email marketing software ranking are MailerLite, beehiiv and EmailOctopus. Choose MailerLite if you want automations and a landing page on the lowest-cost plan. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Email Marketing Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Kit and when Kit is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. How it works: placement disclosure · editorial process.

Why buyers look past Kit

  1. Price follows confirmed subscribers

Kit bills on confirmed subscribers, and its help center says tiers move up automatically when a list passes the limit. Moving down is manual: you must click "Switch to a lower tier" after cleaning the list. Its help center also records the first price increase in 12 years, effective from 15 October 2025.

  2. Automations sit behind a paid plan

The Free plan allows up to 10,000 subscribers, but visual automations, sequences and rules need Creator or Creator Pro. On a downgrade to Free, existing automations and sequences stop running until you upgrade again. A list that lives on automations pays from the first day.

  3. Seats and testing split Creator from Pro

Creator allows 2 team members and A/B tests of subject lines only, with 2 variants. Pro allows unlimited team members, up to 5 subject variants and content tests. Starting prices on the help center are $39 for Creator and $79 for Pro at 1,000 subscribers.

When Kit is still the right choice

Kit is still the right choice for a creator with a large list that earns from it. The Free plan holds 10,000 subscribers, which is more than the 250 to 2,500 limits on the other free tiers we checked. It adds digital products, subscriptions and Creator Network recommendations.

What to expect when you switch from Kit

  1. Export the list before you cancel

Subscribers export as CSV from a bulk action, and a download link is emailed to the account owner. The link expires after five days. The file holds first name, email address, created date, status, tags, location, attribution data and custom fields. The article lists no automations or sequences.

  2. Rebuild automations first, then close

Cancelling keeps full access to the end of the paid period, then the account moves to Free, where automations and sequences stop running. Account deletion is permanent within 24 to 48 hours, and only the owner can request it. Refunds cover the first 30 days after a first payment.

  3. Some parts do not travel

Digital products are paid through a Kit-managed Stripe Express account, which deletion does not close. Creator Network recommendations run through SparkLoop and are not part of the subscriber file. Newsletter archives need recreating by hand in the new tool, as Kit's own guide for incoming archives shows.

Questions and answers

Can I export my subscribers from Kit?

Yes, as a CSV from the bulk action menu on the Subscribers page. The export holds first name, email, status, tags, location, attribution data and custom fields. A download link is emailed and expires after five days. Segments can be exported on their own.

How do I cancel Kit and what happens to the account?

Cancel in Settings under Account and Billing. You keep full access until the end of the period you have paid for, then the account moves to the Free plan. Deleting the account is a separate step and removes all data permanently within 24 to 48 hours.

Can I get a refund when I leave Kit?

Only within 30 days of your first payment, according to the billing article. Annual plans, sold as 12 months for the price of 10, get no refund beyond that 30-day policy. Ask support before deleting, because deletion removes the account data.

Will my automations and sequences move to another tool?

No export of them is described in the help center, which lists subscriber fields and chart data only. Plan to rebuild each automation in the new tool. On Kit's Free plan they stop running but stay in the account.

Why did my Kit bill go up?

Two things raise it: a subscriber count that passes your tier limit moves you up automatically, and the 2025 price update took effect on billing cycles after 15 October 2025 with at least 30 days' notice. Moving down needs a manual "Switch to a lower tier" after cleaning the list.

Can I stay on Kit's Free plan while I test another tool?

Yes, if the list stays under 10,000 subscribers. Broadcasts are unlimited, but automations and sequences pause. Free-plan support requests are answered within 24 hours.
