Norton 360 alternatives: 12 compared

Norton 360 is sold by Gen Digital, and buyers look past it when the renewal price is not printed beside the first-year price, when they want a plan priced per device band, or when they would rather not sit inside the same corporate group as Avast, AVG and Avira. Most go first to Bitdefender, ESET or F-Secure.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Norton 360 in our antivirus software ranking are Bitdefender Total Security, ESET HOME Security and F-Secure Total. Choose Bitdefender Total Security if you want one plan that covers a household of up to 25 devices. All 12 sit in Best Antivirus Software in 2026; what follows contrasts them with Norton 360 only and says when Norton 360 should be kept.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Why buyers look past Norton 360

  1. The renewal price is not on the product page

Norton's products page shows first-year prices such as $59.99 for AntiVirus Plus and $119.99 for 360 Deluxe. Where the savings against the renewal price should appear, the page we fetched printed the placeholder {ar} instead of an amount. It says only that renewal is billed at the applicable rate.

  2. The subscription renews on its own and the price can change

The page states that you are buying a recurring subscription that renews automatically. The quoted price is valid for the introductory term only. After that, Norton bills the renewal price, which it says is subject to change, with a notification email sent in advance.

  3. Several rival brands share the same owner

Norton's footer reads Copyright 2026 Gen Digital Inc. The Avast, AVG and Avira pages carry the same line. A buyer who wants a second opinion outside that group has to look at other publishers, which is a reason to compare ESET, F-Secure, Bitdefender or G DATA.

When Norton 360 is still the right choice

Stay with Norton if you want the Standard plan with 2 GB of cloud backup or the Deluxe plan with 50 GB, and one subscription for antivirus, VPN, password manager and parental control on 5 devices. It also fits you if you value the 60-day money-back guarantee that its products page lists next to every plan.

What to expect when you switch from Norton 360

  1. Export your passwords before the subscription ends

Norton 360 plans include a password manager, and a lapsed subscription can leave it unusable. Export your logins to a file first, import them into the new product or a standalone manager, then delete the file. We could not open Norton's current export instructions, so follow its in-app help.

  2. Turn off auto-renewal and remove the old scanner

Because Norton renews automatically, cancel renewal in your account before the date, not after. Then uninstall Norton before installing a new scanner, since two real-time scanners slow a machine. Also copy any files held in Norton cloud backup to local storage.

  3. Check device counts and platforms

Norton 360 Deluxe covers 5 devices, Standard covers 3 and AntiVirus Plus covers 1. Count your phones and Macs before you pick a replacement, because some alternatives are priced per device band and some limit mobile features to Android or iOS.

Questions and answers

How much does Norton 360 cost at renewal?

We could not read the renewal amount, because Norton's products page prints the placeholder {ar} where it should appear. The page lists first-year prices of $94.99 for 360 Standard and $119.99 for 360 Deluxe, and says renewal is billed at the applicable rate.

Does Norton renew automatically?

Yes, the products page states that you buy a recurring subscription which renews automatically. The introductory price applies only to the first term, and Norton says the renewal price may change after a notification email.

Can I get my money back if I leave Norton?

Norton lists a 60-day money-back guarantee next to its plans. We did not open the refund terms, so read the cancellation and refund policy linked from Norton's legal pages before you rely on it.

What happens to my backup and passwords when I leave Norton?

Norton 360 plans carry a password manager and cloud backup, 2 GB on Standard and 50 GB on Deluxe. Download your files and export your logins before the subscription ends, since we could not confirm what stays accessible afterward.

Who owns Norton?

Norton's footer reads Copyright 2026 Gen Digital Inc. and says Norton is part of Gen. Avast, AVG and Avira carry the same Gen Digital copyright line, so those three are not independent of it.

Is there a free Norton alternative?

Yes, Avast, AVG and Avira offer free tiers, and so does Panda Dome. Avast, AVG and Avira belong to Gen Digital, which also owns Norton.
