Teams look past Zoho Mail when the free plan turns out to exclude IMAP, POP and ActiveSync, when the paid mailbox tiers can only be bought on a yearly term, or when they want a plain mail host without the wider Zoho suite. Most move to Fastmail or mailbox.org for small teams, or to Google Workspace and Exchange Online for the big ecosystems.
Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. The first three alternatives
go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the
established names follow in their ranked order. How it works:
placement disclosure · editorial process.

Switch from Zoho Mail if you want a printed per-user price, a monthly option and a choice of EU or US storage.

Questions and answers
Does the free Zoho Mail plan support IMAP?
No. The pricing page says IMAP, POP and ActiveSync are not included in Mail Free, which covers up to five users and one domain with 5 GB per user. Mail Lite or Mail Premium are the tiers to compare for client access.
Can I pay for Zoho Mail month by month?
No for the mailbox tiers we read. Mail Lite and Mail Premium are marked as billed yearly per user with no monthly plan. Check the sign-up flow for the current amount, because the figures did not render in the text we fetched.
How do I export mail from Zoho before leaving?
An administrator uses Mail Settings, Export Mail Account in the admin console. Whole accounts or a date range export as ZIP, or as PST on paid plans, and the files stay downloadable for 30 days. Spam and trash folders are left out.
Can I connect Outlook or Apple Mail to Zoho while I migrate?
Yes, once IMAP access is switched on in the account settings. Zoho documents server settings for Outlook, Thunderbird and Apple Mail. Free-plan accounts are the exception, because the pricing page excludes IMAP and POP there.
Which alternative lets me pay per account instead of per seat?
Migadu and Runbox. Migadu prices by usage tier (Micro $19 per year up to Maxi $99 a month), and Runbox sells main accounts from €19.95 per year with cheaper sub-accounts. Both suit a mix of heavy and light mailboxes.
Is there a business email host with no yearly commitment?
Yes. mailbox.org states that it has no annual contracts and short notice periods, and Fastmail and Google Workspace list monthly billing next to cheaper yearly terms. Check the exact notice wording in the contract before signing.
