Harvest alternatives: 12 compared

People look for a Harvest alternative when the per-seat price or the usage-based extras grow, when they want a free plan for more than one person, or when they prefer a different owner. Most go to Toggl, Clockify or TimeCamp for time tracking, and to Paymo or Productive for projects and billing.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Harvest in our time tracking software ranking are Toggl (formerly Toggl Track), Clockify and TimeCamp. Choose Toggl (formerly Toggl Track) if you want the closest feature match and a polished timer for a team. All 12 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Time Tracking Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Harvest and when Harvest is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. How it works: placement disclosure · editorial process.

Why buyers look past Harvest

  1. The free plan is one person

Harvest's pricing page limits the Free plan to 1 seat and 2 projects. A small team that wants to share timers has to move to Teams at $9 per seat per month, which the page shows as $108 per seat a year.

  2. Usage-based extras on top of seats

Teams and Enterprise bill additional invoices, projects, clients and tasks by usage on top of the seat price. An agency with many small clients should model that before comparing seat prices alone.

  3. Owner and renewal terms

Harvest's terms name Bending Spoons Operations S.p.A. of Milan as the provider. Plans auto-renew at the then-current fee, and Harvest may change fees with 30 days' notice. Some buyers prefer a vendor with a different ownership profile.

When Harvest is still the right choice

Stay if you are a freelancer or a small team that bills hours. The Free plan covers one seat and two projects with time tracking, invoicing and expense tracking, and Enterprise adds approvals and profitability reporting. Harvest also publishes an API v2 for timesheets, invoices and expenses. If those meet your needs, switching saves little.

What to expect when you switch from Harvest

  1. Export history and rebuild the structure

Harvest's API v2 documentation lists endpoints for clients, projects, tasks, time entries, invoices and expenses, so you can extract full history by script. Decide how far back to import, since billed periods rarely need to live in the new tool.

  2. Finish open invoices first

Close the invoicing cycle in Harvest before you cancel. Terms say a plan auto-renews unless canceled or not renewed under section 5, so set the cancellation before the renewal date, and keep an export of the invoices you issued.
