Backblaze alternatives: 11 compared

Businesses look past Backblaze when they need to protect servers, virtual machines or Microsoft 365 as well as laptops, when a thirty-day default history is too short, or when they want one console that also holds the security tooling. They move to Carbonite or N-able Cove for similar endpoint scope, and to Acronis, Veeam or NAKIVO for broader workload coverage.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Backblaze in our backup and disaster recovery software ranking are Carbonite, N-able Backup (Cove Data Protection) and Acronis Cyber Protect. Choose Carbonite if you have fewer than 25 computers and also need a Windows server covered. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Backup & Disaster Recovery Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Backblaze and when Backblaze is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Backblaze at a glance

  • Headquarters: United States
  • Pricing model: Per computer / year, or per TB / month, published
  • Pricing: Business Backup is published at a flat rate per computer for unlimited storage, billed monthly, yearly or for two years, with a quoted Enterprise Control tier adding legal hold and OIDC sign-on; B2 Cloud Storage is published at a per-terabyte monthly rate with the first 10GB free.
  • Free option: Free plan
  • Built for: Small businesses wanting simple, unlimited endpoint and server backup
  • Wrong for: An IT team backing up virtual machines or complex application stacks that need instant recovery and orchestrated failover should look at NAKIVO, Veeam or Acronis instead; Backblaze is built for straightforward computer and object storage backup, not virtualized disaster recovery.

Why buyers look past Backblaze

  1. The history window depends on the page

The business page says one year of version history is included. The Computer Backup documentation, updated November 2024, says the default is 30 days, with 1 year or Forever as settings, and the pricing page says Forever carries an added fee. Check which applies to your account before relying on it.

  2. The product is a mirror of computers

The documentation calls it an active, evolving mirror of Mac and Windows computers and connected drives, and says it is not an archive, cold storage or a sync service. The pages we fetched name no virtual machine, database or application-aware backup.

  3. Leaving deletes the backup

To cancel, you delete each registered backup, and the documentation says this immediately and irreversibly deletes the data in it. The terms let either party end the service for an uncured breach after 30 days. Restore what you need first, by zip or by shipped drive.

What each alternative does differently

1. Carbonite

Long-standing cloud backup brand, now under OpenText · Canada

The nearest like-for-like swap for a small office. Business plans cap storage at 250 or 500 GB with extra blocks at $99 per 100 GB, and the Power and Ultimate tiers add servers. The page directs buyers with more than 25 computers to OpenText.

Switch from Backblaze if you have fewer than 25 computers and also need a Windows server covered.

Pricing: Published annual plans: personal Basic, Plus and Prime tiers per computer, and business plans Core (up to 25 computers, 250 GB, $287.99/year), Power (one server plus 25 computers, 500 GB, $599.99/year) and Ultimate (unlimited servers plus 25 computers, 500 GB, $999.99/year), with extra storage at $99 per 100 GB; a 30-day free business trial is offered. (free trial)

2. N-able Backup (Cove Data Protection)

MSP-focused backup with 15-minute incremental snapshots · United States

Cove is delivered as SaaS with no appliances, covering servers, workstations and Microsoft 365, with Google Workspace in public preview. The page says worldwide cloud storage is included and copies are isolated and immutable. It publishes no price, only a trial.

Switch from Backblaze if you want servers, workstations and Microsoft 365 under one cloud console.

Pricing: Quote-only, described by the vendor as a flat rate per server or workstation and a flat per-user rate for Microsoft 365, with cloud storage bundled in; a free trial is available. (free trial)

Full review: #7 of 12 in our ranking · Visit N-able Backup (Cove Data Protection) →

3. Acronis Cyber Protect

Backup and cybersecurity protection in one agent · Switzerland

One agent covers Windows, macOS and Linux endpoints, servers, hypervisors, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. Licences count workloads, and the bundled Acronis cloud storage is 50 to 250 GB per workload. Backups can instead go to local, network or S3-compatible storage.

Switch from Backblaze if you need endpoint security and backup from one agent, with a choice of storage target.

Pricing: Subscription licensed per protected workload, sold in Standard, Advanced and Backup Advanced editions with an online purchase portal and price calculator; no free plan, only a free trial across business, service-provider and home tiers. (free trial)

Full review: #4 of 12 in our ranking · Visit Acronis Cyber Protect →

4. Druva

100% SaaS-delivered backup with no on-premises infrastructure · United States

A fully managed cloud service with endpoint backup next to data center, public cloud and SaaS protection. An Essentials Pack is aimed at smaller firms, and a per-user licence covers SaaS apps. The pricing page shows tiers but no figures, and offers a free trial.

Switch from Backblaze if you want a managed cloud service that also protects Microsoft 365 and cloud workloads.

Pricing: Quote-only across per-workload plans (data center, public cloud, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace individually) and a per-user "SaaS Universal" licence with dynamic pooled storage; no published numbers, free trial available. (free trial)

Full review: #8 of 12 in our ranking · Visit Druva →

5. NAKIVO Backup & Replication

Veeam-class backup and replication at a fraction of the licence cost · United States

Built around servers and virtual machines, not laptops. Subscriptions count workloads annually (three workstations make one), with a five-workload minimum, and Microsoft 365 is priced per user. Perpetual licences by socket exist. A 15-day trial needs no card.

Switch from Backblaze if your risk is in virtual machines and physical servers rather than staff laptops.

Pricing: Published per-workload subscription pricing (virtual machine, physical server, cloud instance or Microsoft 365 user each counted as one workload), plus per-CPU-socket perpetual licences and per-TB NAS backup; Enterprise Plus and some perpetual editions are quoted. (free plan)

Full review: #2 of 12 in our ranking · Visit NAKIVO Backup & Replication →

6. Veeam

The enterprise standard for virtual and hybrid infrastructure backup · United States

Sold as Foundation, Advanced and Premium editions covering hypervisors, Windows and Linux servers, NAS and the big public clouds. The page we fetched lists immutable repositories and a 30-day full trial, but no prices and no mention of Mac clients.

Switch from Backblaze if you run virtual infrastructure and want immutable repositories and tiered editions.

Pricing: Veeam Data Platform editions (Foundation, Advanced, Premium) on the Veeam Universal License, bought online from Veeam's store in ten-instance packs (Foundation listed at EUR 1,631.69 per pack) or quoted through resellers and partners; a 30-day free trial is offered. (free trial)

Full review: #9 of 12 in our ranking · Visit Veeam →

7. Barracuda Backup

Capacity-priced backup appliance and cloud replication from a security vendor · United States

An appliance model, physical or virtual, licensed per terabyte of protected front-end data, with the hardware refreshed every four years. Offsite copies go to Barracuda cloud or a second appliance. Microsoft 365 is a separate product, and a free trial exists.

Switch from Backblaze if you prefer a local appliance with an offsite copy and a single capacity-based subscription.

Pricing: Quote-only via a "Build and Price" configurator; licensed on scalable, capacity-based terms rather than a flat per-workload fee, with free trials available. (free trial)

Full review: #5 of 12 in our ranking · Visit Barracuda Backup →

8. Datto BCDR

MSP-exclusive backup with ransomware detection and instant virtualization · United States

A bundle of appliance, software and recovery cloud, with instant virtualization on the device or in the cloud. The page describes a flat-fee service with free-to-use hardware, offers infinite or time-based retention, publishes no price, and puts the partner channel front and centre.

Switch from Backblaze if you want a server to boot within minutes of failure and will buy through a reseller.

Pricing: Quote-only through the MSP channel; Datto and parent company Kaseya describe a flat-fee model but publish no numbers, and the product cannot be purchased directly by an end business without an MSP. (none)

Full review: #1 of 12 in our ranking · Visit Datto BCDR →

9. Commvault

Enterprise data protection across everything a large estate holds · United States

A platform for large mixed estates: SaaS apps, AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, directory identities, DevOps repositories, edge sites and on-premises VMware. The platform page lists a free trial and marketplace listings but no price, so a small team pays in setup effort.

Switch from Backblaze if your data spans cloud, SaaS, directories and on-premises systems under one policy engine.

Pricing: Quote-only for Commvault Cloud, with "request a demo" as the main path to a number and a separate Clumio pricing page for the AWS backup service; a 30-day free trial of Commvault Cloud is offered with no fees. (free trial)

Full review: #10 of 12 in our ranking · Visit Commvault →

10. Cohesity

Unified hybrid and multi-cloud data protection, now including NetBackup · United States

DataProtect targets enterprise estates across on-premises, edge, cloud and SaaS, including Microsoft 365 and Salesforce, with immutable snapshots that cannot be altered from outside the service. A free trial is offered, no price is shown, and laptops are not its pitch.

Switch from Backblaze if you protect large data estates and want immutable snapshots under one platform.

Pricing: Quote-only for DataProtect, offered as SaaS, software subscription or managed/partner-delivered service; no published price list, with a 30-day free trial available for cloud backup, cyber vaulting and disaster recovery capabilities. (free trial)

Full review: #12 of 12 in our ranking · Visit Cohesity →

11. Rubrik

Zero Trust Data Protection for cyber resilience at scale · United States

We could not fetch Rubrik's own pages (HTTP 403 on every attempt), so we say little. Our category entry records a quote-only, sales-led product with no self-serve trial found. It is a large-estate product, a poor fit for a handful of laptops.

Switch from Backblaze if you run a large estate and accept a sales-led purchase.

Pricing: Quote-only, enterprise sales-led with "Contact Sales" as the only path on product pages; no calculator, no published numbers and no self-serve trial found. (none)

Full review: #11 of 12 in our ranking · Visit Rubrik →

When Backblaze is still the right choice

Stay with Backblaze if the thing you protect is staff laptops and desktops, you want a published price per computer with no storage cap, and your servers and applications are covered elsewhere. The business page lists group administration, MDM deployment through Jamf, Intune and others, Google and Microsoft sign-in, and free restores by drive. Those suit a distributed office with Macs.

What to expect when you switch from Backblaze

  1. Restore before you delete

Backblaze documents restores as a zip file or a USB drive. The business pricing page puts web zip restores at up to 500 GB per request, and mailed drives are free if returned within 30 days. Because cancelling deletes the backup at once, finish restores and check the files first.

  2. Expect to re-upload everything

A new service starts with its own first backup, and Backblaze notes that unlimited backup is limited only by upload speed. Run both services in parallel until the new one has completed a full pass, and note that old file versions do not carry over.

  3. Redeploy through your management tool

Backblaze lists silent installation through MSI, Jamf, Kandji, Addigy and Intune. A replacement needs its own installer, policy and sign-in setup. Budget for that work if you manage devices at scale, and for tag or group structures to be rebuilt.

Questions and answers

Can I get my data out of Backblaze before cancelling?

Yes, by zip restore or by a shipped USB drive. The documentation lists those two restore routes, and the business pricing page says web zip restores go up to 500 GB per request. Cancelling afterwards deletes the backup immediately and irreversibly.

How long does Backblaze keep old versions?

It depends on the page. The business page says one year is included, while the documentation says 30 days is the default, extendable to 1 year or Forever. The pricing page says Forever costs extra. Confirm the setting on your own account.

Does Backblaze Business Backup protect servers or virtual machines?

The pages we fetched describe Mac and Windows computers and connected external drives, and name no virtual machine or application backup. If you need those, look at NAKIVO, Veeam or Acronis, which list servers and hypervisors among their workloads.

What happens to my contract if I leave?

The terms we read let either party end the service for a breach left uncured for 30 days after written notice. Billing runs monthly, yearly or for two years on the pricing page, so check where your own term ends before you leave.

Is there a cheaper alternative with published prices?

Carbonite and NAKIVO publish business prices on their pages, while Acronis, Veeam, N-able and Druva send you to a quote or a reseller. Carbonite caps storage at 250 or 500 GB per plan, which Backblaze does not.

Can Backblaze work as a sync or archive replacement?

No. The documentation states that Computer Backup is not a sync tool, not a collaboration service and not designed as archiving or cold storage. A deleted file is only kept for as long as your version history setting allows.
