Clockify alternatives: 11 compared

Teams look past Clockify when the free plan stops at five users, when CSV and Excel exports and billable rates sit behind a paid plan, or when they want self-hosting or a different jurisdiction. Most go to Toggl Track, Jibble or TimeCamp for the same job, or to Kimai for open source.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Clockify in our time tracking software ranking are Toggl (formerly Toggl Track), Jibble and TimeCamp. Choose Toggl (formerly Toggl Track) if you want a polished timer and a clear path to profitability reporting. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Time Tracking Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Clockify and when Clockify is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Why buyers look past Clockify

  1. The free plan has a ceiling

Clockify's free plan covers up to 5 active users, owner included. Beyond five, a workspace must pay or deactivate people. Reports on the free plan span at most 31 days at a time, and all projects are public to every member. Growing teams hit these limits first.

  2. Exports and billable rates are paid

On the free plan, report exports are limited to PDF. CSV and Excel exports, shared reports and billable rates start on the Basic plan. API use is capped at 30 requests per hour and 3 webhooks. Teams that feed payroll or invoices from exports need a paid seat for each person.

  3. Admin and security features sit high up

Time off, invoicing and approvals start on Standard. Scheduling, expenses, GPS tracking and the choice of data region (EU, UK, US or Australia) start on Pro. SSO, SCIM provisioning and the audit log are Enterprise only. Every seat is billed at the plan's price, owner and admins included.

When Clockify is still the right choice

Stay with Clockify if your team has five or fewer people and the free plan covers it, or if you need broad features at a low per-seat price. Its Basic plan lists import, CSV and Excel export, and billable rates. Standard adds time off, invoicing and approvals. Pro adds scheduling and expenses, with data regions in the EU, UK, US and Australia. If those tiers fit, switching buys little.

What to expect when you switch from Clockify

  1. Export before you downgrade or cancel

On the free plan, report exports are PDF only, and owners can export the current year's time entries as CSV from workspace settings. CSV and Excel report exports need a paid plan. Cancelling keeps paid features until the billing cycle ends, then the workspace drops to Free, with data kept.

  2. Rates, approvals and history do not travel on their own

Billable rates, historical rates, task rates and approval states are Clockify settings, and the exports carry time entries and report columns, not the workspace configuration. Rebuild projects, clients and rates in the new tool and test one pay period in parallel before cutting over.

Questions and answers

Can I export my data from Clockify on the free plan?

Partly. The free plan allows PDF report exports, and workspace owners can export all time entries for the current year as CSV. Full CSV and Excel report exports require a paid plan, which starts at Basic.

Do I lose my data if I cancel a paid Clockify plan?

No. After you cancel, paid features stay on until the end of the billing cycle, then the workspace moves to the Free plan. Clockify says it does not delete data unless you remove the workspace or your CAKE.com account.

Does Clockify refund a cancelled subscription?

Generally not. Clockify states that it does not refund cancelled subscriptions unless a charge came from a system error. Cancel before the renewal date, because access continues until the end of the paid period.

What happens if my Clockify workspace has more than five users on the free plan?

Only the first four invitees plus the owner stay active. When a trial ends on the Free plan, users beyond that are deactivated automatically. You can deactivate extra users yourself or upgrade to keep everyone.

Who owns Clockify?

Clockify is a product of CAKE.com Inc., which also makes Pumble and Plaky and lists an address in Palo Alto, California. The company says it began developing products in 2009 and launched Clockify in 2017.

Can I move Clockify data into a self-hosted tool?

Yes, if you export time entries to CSV first. Kimai is the open-source option under AGPL 3 and can be self-hosted. Check on a small sample that projects, clients and rates map correctly before you move everyone.
