Optimizely alternatives: 13 compared

Buyers look past Optimizely when a quote-only, sales-led platform feels heavier than the job, or when they want one capability, such as personalization, without a full digital experience platform. Most go to Kameleoon or VWO for testing with personalization, or to OptiMonk when the budget is small.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Optimizely in our website personalization software ranking are Kameleoon, Monetate and Mutiny. Choose Kameleoon if you want server-side testing and flags with an AI targeting layer from a smaller vendor. All 13 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Website Personalization & CRO Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Optimizely and when Optimizely is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. How it works: placement disclosure · editorial process.

Optimizely at a glance

  • Headquarters: United States
  • Pricing model: Quote only
  • Pricing: Enterprise, quoted; sales-led onboarding
  • Free option: No free plan; demo on request
  • Built for: Large enterprises with a dedicated experimentation function
  • Wrong for: A small team without engineering support to implement server-side experimentation, or a budget under enterprise scale, will find Optimizely both more expensive and more complex than the job requires.
  • Place in our ranking: #6 of 14

Why buyers look past Optimizely

  1. Quote-only, packaged per customer

Optimizely's plans page says every plan is individually packaged and asks buyers to describe their needs before a plan is created. No price or entry tier is published, so a team cannot size the cost before a sales conversation.

  2. The product is a platform now

Optimizely's homepage describes an AI platform covering content management, experimentation, agents, analytics and commerce. A team that only wants to run tests and show different content to segments is evaluating a much wider product than it plans to use.

  3. Implementation takes code and process

Its documentation tells users to paste a JavaScript snippet at the top of the head tag, and Feature Experimentation relies on SDKs in the application. Teams without developer time often prefer a visual, hosted tool.

What each alternative does differently

1. Kameleoon

AI-scored personalization and server-side testing with an EU hosting option · France

The closest like-for-like swap for experimentation with personalization. Client-side and server-side testing sit beside feature flags and an AI targeting layer, though personalization, AI targeting and feature management are Enterprise-only. A published Starter plan covers testing alone, and EU or US data residency is offered.

Switch from Optimizely if you want server-side testing and flags with an AI targeting layer from a smaller vendor.

Pricing: 30-day free trial, no credit card required; PBX Starter from $495 a month for 50,000 tested visitors; Enterprise quoted, and personalization, AI targeting and feature management are Enterprise-only (free trial)

2. Monetate

Ecommerce personalization, recommendations and testing, now unified with SiteSpect · United States

Aimed at ecommerce merchandising more than general experimentation. It combines product recommendations, segment targeting and zero-flicker server-side tests, and was combined with SiteSpect before being sold again as a standalone platform. Like Optimizely it is quoted and sales-led, with no free plan.

Switch from Optimizely if your site is a retail catalogue and recommendations matter more than a general testing program.

Pricing: Quoted; enterprise, sales-led (no free plan; demo on request)

3. Mutiny

AI sales assistant for personalized B2B assets, deal rooms and ABM pages · United States

Not a site-wide testing platform. Mutiny now sells an AI sales assistant that builds personalized decks, deal rooms and landing pages for B2B accounts, so it creates new assets instead of changing an existing site. It has a free plan, credit-based paid tiers and an Enterprise tier from $40,000 a year.

Switch from Optimizely if your real need is account-based pages and sales assets for B2B buyers, not site experiments.

Pricing: Free plan for up to 5 team members with daily credits; Business $50 a month for 50 credits; Enterprise from $40,000 a year (free plan)

Full review: #3 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Mutiny →

4. OptiMonk

No-code popups, on-site messaging and personalization with a real free tier · Hungary

A no-code builder for popups, on-site messages and cart-abandonment offers, not an experimentation platform. It has a free plan for 10,000 monthly pageviews on one domain and published tiers by pageviews. Personalization is rule-based and there is no predictive layer or server-side testing.

Switch from Optimizely if you are a small team, want a free start and publish campaigns without engineering help.

Pricing: Free plan up to 10,000 monthly pageviews on one domain; paid tiers by monthly pageviews and domain count, published, from around $19 a month billed annually (free plan (10,000 pageviews/month, 1 domain))

Full review: #4 of 14 in our ranking · Visit OptiMonk →

5. VWO (now part of Wingify)

Testing, behavior analytics and personalization on one platform, now sold as Wingify · India

Puts testing, heatmaps, session recordings and rule-based personalization on one platform, with server-side and feature-flag testing included. A 30-day trial needs no card. Plans are priced per product by monthly active users and no prices are published, so it is still a quote-based purchase.

Switch from Optimizely if you want research tools such as heatmaps and recordings beside testing and personalization.

Pricing: 30-day free trial, no credit card required; Growth, Pro and Enterprise plans per product, quoted by monthly active users, with no prices published (free trial)

Full review: #5 of 14 in our ranking · Visit VWO (now part of Wingify) →

6. Adobe Target

Rule-based and AI-driven targeting wired into Adobe Experience Cloud · United States

The enterprise peer, sold as part of Adobe Experience Cloud and quoted like Optimizely. Auto-Target and Recommendations require the Premium license. Its main advantage is native integration with Adobe Analytics and Experience Manager, which is of little use to a team outside the Adobe stack.

Switch from Optimizely if you already run Adobe Analytics or Experience Manager and want targeting to share that data.

Pricing: Enterprise, quoted; sold as part of Adobe Experience Cloud (no free plan; demo on request)

Full review: #7 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Adobe Target →

7. Dynamic Yield

Real-time product recommendations and audience personalization, now under Mastercard · United States

Strongest at algorithmic product recommendations and audience personalization for large retailers, and now operated under Mastercard. Pricing is enterprise-only, as with Optimizely. Recommendation quality depends on event volume, so lower-traffic sites see less benefit. Confirm current contract and data terms after the ownership changes.

Switch from Optimizely if you are a large retailer and want recommendation algorithms to drive personalization.

Pricing: Enterprise, quoted (no free plan; demo on request)

Full review: #8 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Dynamic Yield →

8. AB Tasty (now part of Wingify)

Testing, personalization and feature flags for product and marketing teams together · France

Testing, on-site personalization widgets and feature flags in one suite, now merged with VWO and sold under the Wingify name. A 30-day trial of the combined platform needs no card. Plans are quoted by monthly active users with no published prices, and the lineup is still being combined.

Switch from Optimizely if marketing and product teams share one tool and you can accept a combined, still changing product.

Pricing: 30-day free trial of the combined Wingify platform, no credit card required; plans quoted by monthly active users, no published prices (free trial)

Full review: #9 of 14 in our ranking · Visit AB Tasty (now part of Wingify) →

9. Convert.com

Privacy-first experimentation vendor built around GDPR-conscious testing · United States

A privacy-first testing tool with published plans from $299 a month billed annually, by monthly tested users. Server-side testing and feature flags start on the Pro plan. Personalization is a secondary feature of an A/B tool, so it lacks the predictive targeting of larger platforms.

Switch from Optimizely if you mostly run tests, want published prices and care about consent-aware delivery.

Pricing: Free 15-day trial, no credit card required; published plans by monthly tested users from $299 a month billed annually; full stack testing from the Pro plan; Enterprise quoted (free trial (15 days))

Full review: #10 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Convert.com →

10. Unbounce

Landing page builder with AI-driven Smart Traffic routing · Canada

A landing page builder with a 14-day trial and published plans from $22 a month billed annually. Smart Traffic routes visitors to the variant it predicts converts best, but only on the top self-serve Optimize plan. It only works on pages built inside Unbounce, not on an existing site.

Switch from Optimizely if your tests concern paid-traffic landing pages and you want a builder with published prices.

Pricing: Free 14-day trial, no credit card required; published plans by monthly visitors from $22 a month billed annually; Smart Traffic only on the Optimize plan ($187 a month billed annually), the top self-serve tier (free trial (14 days))

Full review: #11 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Unbounce →

11. Insider One

Omnichannel personalization across web, app, email and messaging · Turkey

Treats website personalization as one channel in a customer journey engine covering app, email, SMS and WhatsApp on shared customer data. Pricing is quoted and sales-led. The breadth is unnecessary for a buyer who only needs web testing, and implementation is larger than for a single-channel tool.

Switch from Optimizely if you want web personalization tied to email, app and messaging journeys on one data layer.

Pricing: Quoted; enterprise, sales-led (no free plan; demo on request)

Full review: #12 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Insider One →

12. Bloomreach Engagement

Ecommerce personalization and marketing automation on one customer data layer · United States

Includes a built-in customer data platform with web and email personalization on the same data. It is quoted and sales-led like Optimizely, and larger in scope than a testing tool. Product recommendations come through Bloomreach Discovery. A buyer without a need for the data layer pays for infrastructure it will not use.

Switch from Optimizely if you want a customer data platform and personalization together, not a separate testing tool.

Pricing: Quoted; enterprise, sales-led (no free plan; demo on request)

Full review: #13 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Bloomreach Engagement →

13. Nosto

Ecommerce product recommendations and on-site personalization · Finland

Built for ecommerce, with native Shopify and BigCommerce apps for product recommendations and category page personalization. Pricing depends on GMV, traffic and modules, with no published prices and no trial, only a proof of concept for qualified merchants. General content personalization outside retail is secondary.

Switch from Optimizely if you run a Shopify or BigCommerce store and want recommendations without a heavy implementation.

Pricing: Quoted by GMV, traffic and selected modules; no published prices and no standard free trial, with a structured proof of concept for qualified merchants instead (none)

When Optimizely is still the right choice

Optimizely remains the right choice for a large organization with a dedicated experimentation team that needs client-side and server-side testing, feature flags and personalization under one contract. Its documentation describes a Stats Engine with false discovery rate control and automatic checks for sample ratio mismatch. If you also run its CMS, commerce or content products, the integration is a reason to stay.

What to expect when you switch from Optimizely

  1. Remove the snippet in a controlled order

Optimizely's documentation says the JavaScript snippet should sit at the top of the head tag. Keep it live while the replacement runs, then remove it page by page, so tests do not collide or flicker for visitors.

  2. Take your results out before you leave

The results page has an Export CSV button, limited to the selected date range and segment. The documentation also points to separate Event Export data for raw events, so request that before you cancel.

  3. Rebuild audiences and flags by hand

Audiences, experiments and flags are configured inside Optimizely. Feature Experimentation flags are called from open-source SDKs in your code, so changing vendor means changing those calls. Budget developer time and re-test every rule.

Questions and answers

Can I export my Optimizely experiment results?

Yes, the results page offers an Export CSV button for the date range and segment you have selected. Raw event data is covered separately in Optimizely's documentation under Event Export, so ask your account team how long it stays available after a contract ends.

Does Optimizely publish its prices?

No. The plans page says every plan is individually packaged and created after you describe your needs. Expect a quote for any product and ask for the price at renewal in writing, as no public list price exists to compare against.

Is there a free version of Optimizely?

Only for feature flags. The Feature Experimentation documentation describes Optimizely Rollouts as the free plan, with free feature flags and one A/B test. Web experimentation and personalization are not offered free, and there is a demo instead of a trial.

What must I change on my site when I leave Optimizely?

You remove the JavaScript snippet from the head tag for web tests. If you use Feature Experimentation, you also replace the SDK calls such as Decide and Track Event in your own code, which is a development task.

Does Optimizely still sell personalization separately?

Yes. Optimizely has a Personalization product with its own documentation, a visual editor and campaign results. It works with Web Experimentation, so a switch usually means replacing both products, not one.

Which alternative is closest to Optimizely?

Kameleoon is the nearest match in scope, with client-side and server-side testing, feature flags and personalization. Its personalization and feature management are Enterprise-only. Adobe Target and Dynamic Yield are the other large, quoted platforms.
