Sage Intacct alternatives: 12 compared

Finance teams look past Sage Intacct when a quote-only price, add-on subscriptions and a partner-led rollout stop making sense for the size of the business, or when they want an ERP instead of a finance application. Most go up to NetSuite or Odoo, or down to Xero, QuickBooks Online or Zoho Books.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Sage Intacct in our accounting software ranking are NetSuite, Odoo Accounting and Xero. Choose NetSuite if you have outgrown a finance-only system and want operations and inventory in the same ERP. All 12 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Accounting Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Sage Intacct and when Sage Intacct is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Sage Intacct at a glance

  • Headquarters: United Kingdom
  • Pricing model: Quote only
  • Pricing: Quote only through Sage or a partner; each application subscription, such as consolidation, inventory or order entry, adds a fee that depends mainly on user count, plus implementation fees.
  • Free option: None
  • Built for: Finance teams closing several entities
  • Wrong for: Single-entity companies without a full-time finance hire should stay with Zoho Books, Xero or QuickBooks; Intacct sells Inventory Control and Order Entry as extra subscriptions, but manufacturers needing production planning should look at NetSuite or an ERP.
  • Place in our ranking: #8 of 14

Why buyers look past Sage Intacct

  1. Price is hidden behind a quote

Sage Intacct is sold by quote through Sage or a partner, and each application subscription adds a fee that depends mainly on user count. Implementation fees come on top. A buyer cannot compare a number with Xero or Zoho Books until a salesperson has priced the exact module list.

  2. Extras are separate subscriptions

Sage's developer documentation says Platform Services must be enabled by Customer Support, and that the contract should include the subscription. Data Delivery Service is described as not a free subscription. Customization, data extraction and custom apps are each bought on top of the core ledger.

  3. The integration surface is moving

The developer site says Sage recommends the REST API, and that new objects and features go to REST first. The XML API stays and existing integrations keep working, but the docs move to a new portal with the FY27 R1 release. Teams with older connectors should plan the rewrite.

What each alternative does differently

1. NetSuite

ERP-grade financials inside a full business suite · United States

Sold the way Intacct is: by quote, with an annual base licence, per-user fees and add-on modules. The step up is from a finance application to a full ERP, so inventory, order flow and operations sit in one system. Expect implementation to be a separate and often larger bill.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you have outgrown a finance-only system and want operations and inventory in the same ERP.

Pricing: Quote only, with an annual base licence, per-user fees and add-on modules; implementation is a separate and often larger cost. (none)

2. Odoo Accounting

Accounting app inside a modular open-core business suite · Belgium

Priced per user, with every app inside the Standard and Custom plans. Multi-company, Studio, the external API and Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting are listed on Custom. The vendor says the free single-app plan also allows several companies. It is a wider suite than a ledger, with partners doing larger rollouts.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you want an accounting app inside a wider per-user suite, with a self-hosting option.

Pricing: One app can be used free with unlimited users; the full suite is priced per user per month, with multi-company, Studio and self-hosting on the higher Custom plan, and implementation often done by partners. (free plan)

3. Xero

Bank-feed-first cloud ledger with unlimited users · New Zealand

A small-business ledger sold as three published tiers, Early, Growing and Established, with no user fees. Early limits invoices to 20 a month in the US plan we read. It is built for owners and bookkeepers, not for a controller who needs dimension reporting across entities.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you run one or two simple entities and want published prices with unlimited users.

Pricing: Published monthly tiers with no per-user license fees; the entry tier caps invoices and bills, and multi-currency sits on the top plan in the US and on the top two UK plans. (free trial)

Full review: #7 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Xero →

4. QuickBooks Online

The ledger most US accountants already know · United States

Four published tiers, Simple Start to Advanced, each with a user cap: one, three, five and twenty-five users on the US page we read. Advanced is the closest to a mid-sized finance team. Accountant seats are counted apart, which suits firms that send books out for review.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you are a US company with a small finance team and want fixed prices with an outside accountant.

Pricing: Published monthly tiers from a limited Free plan (one user, two invoices a month, one bank connection) through Simple Start to Advanced, each capping users; payroll, payments and some add-ons are billed separately. (free plan)

5. Zoho Books

Automation-heavy ledger with country-specific tax editions · India

A per-organization price instead of a quote, with a free plan for one user plus an accountant. Multi-currency starts on the Premium tier, revenue recognition on Elite, and advanced analytics on Ultimate. Premium and Elite include ten users. It fits companies whose books are still one organization.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you want per-organization pricing and a ledger that grows through tiers rather than add-on subscriptions.

Pricing: Published per-organization tiers with a free plan for very small businesses; paid tiers sit well below QuickBooks and Xero equivalents. (free plan)

Full review: #5 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Zoho Books →

6. FreeAgent

Self-assessment-ready books for UK freelancers · United Kingdom

Built for UK sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, priced by business type per month. The vendor states there is no contract or setup fee, and that data can be downloaded at any time. Nothing in the pages we read suggests consolidation or multi-entity close.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you are a UK limited company that wants a monthly rolling plan and does not need consolidation.

Pricing: Published monthly price by business type; included at no extra cost with several UK business bank accounts. (free trial)

Full review: #10 of 14 in our ranking · Visit FreeAgent →

7. FreshBooks

Double-entry books for firms that bill for their time · Canada

Billing-first software for service businesses, where tiers follow the number of billable clients (5, 50 or unlimited on the page we read) and extra team members cost a fee each. Strong on invoicing and time tracking. Not a tool for departmental dimensions or intercompany work.

Switch from Sage Intacct if your finance work is mostly invoicing and time billing for clients, not entity reporting.

Pricing: Published monthly tiers priced by the number of billable clients, with each extra team member charged as an add-on. (free trial)

Full review: #3 of 14 in our ranking · Visit FreshBooks →

8. Kashoo

Stripped-down bookkeeping for solo owners · Canada

One flat subscription, with unlimited invoices, bank feeds, projects, items and multi-currency listed on its pricing page. It is bookkeeping for one business at a time and shows no multi-entity layer on the pages we read, so a group with intercompany flows outgrows it fast.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you want one flat price and plain bookkeeping for a single small business.

Pricing: A single flat monthly or annual subscription with published pricing and no per-user tiers. (free trial)

Full review: #1 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Kashoo →

9. Clear Books

UK ledger organized around VAT and HMRC filing · United Kingdom

A UK product with sterling pricing, multi-currency on the top tier, payroll as a separate bolt-on and free plans for sole traders and landlords. Built around British small companies and their accountants, so it is a poor match for a group with several overseas entities.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you are a UK company that wants sterling pricing and accountant access without a quote.

Pricing: Published monthly tiers in sterling for companies, with multi-currency on the top tier; payroll is a separate bolt-on, and free plans cover sole traders' and landlords' Making Tax Digital filings. (free plan)

Full review: #2 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Clear Books →

10. Akaunting

Open-source ledger you can host yourself · Turkey

Open source with a free Standard edition you host yourself, limited to one company, and paid cloud and on-premise plans that raise limits. The vendor lists Cloud plans as separate from the self-hosted plans. You carry the upkeep, and the app marketplace fills gaps that Intacct covers natively.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you want to host your own books and have a developer or partner who will maintain them.

Pricing: Free Standard edition to self-host, limited to one company, one user plus an accountant and 1,000 invoices; paid on-premise and cloud plans raise those limits and bundle marketplace apps. (open source)

Full review: #11 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Akaunting →

11. Wave

No-cost bookkeeping for very small US and Canadian firms · Canada

A free Starter plan with unlimited invoices and bookkeeping records, and a paid Pro tier. Card payments carry a stated percentage fee, which is how the free tier is funded. Aimed at freelancers and very small firms, so it fits Intacct's buyer only after a large downsize.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you have shrunk to a micro business and want a free ledger with paid payments.

Pricing: Starter plan is free; a paid Pro tier adds automatic bank imports and receipt features, with card and bank payment fees on invoices. (free plan)

Full review: #4 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Wave →

12. Patriot Accounting

Low-cost US bookkeeping ledger from an Ohio payroll company · United States

Two published plans, Basic and Premium, aimed at small US businesses, with a free trial and no annual contract. It is bookkeeping software from a company better known for payroll. We found no consolidation, reporting dimensions or approval workflows on its pages, so it suits a far smaller firm than Intacct.

Switch from Sage Intacct if you are a tiny US business that wants the cheapest plan with a trial and no yearly contract.

Pricing: Two published monthly plans, Basic and Premium, both inexpensive, with a free trial and no annual contract. (free trial)

When Sage Intacct is still the right choice

Stay on Sage Intacct if you close several entities each month and rely on dimensions, intercompany eliminations and consolidation that the lighter tools above do not offer. Moving a working multi-entity ledger to a small-business product loses reporting structure, and a larger ERP adds cost and a second rollout. Leave when the entity count has fallen, or when you pay for modules you do not use.

What to expect when you switch from Sage Intacct

  1. Export your data before you sign

Sage's Data Delivery Service sends extracted data as separate CSV files to a cloud storage location you define, and the vendor states that processing and loading the files into your own database is your responsibility. It is a paid subscription, so ask whether it is on your contract before the notice period starts.

  2. Custom objects and dimensions do not travel

Custom objects, pages, triggers and applications built with Platform Services exist only inside Sage Intacct. A target such as Xero or QuickBooks has no equivalent, so decide first what each dimension becomes: a tracking category, a class or a separate company file.

  3. Check the contract terms yourself

We could not read Sage's own contract or notice terms, as the Sage site blocked automated access. Ask your partner for the renewal date, the notice period and the written price of each subscription. Treat any reseller summary as unconfirmed until it is in your agreement.

Questions and answers

Can I export my data from Sage Intacct?

Yes, through the Data Delivery Service or the API. The Data Delivery Service delivers separate CSV files to a cloud storage location, and Sage describes it as a paid subscription. The XML and REST APIs read and write standard and custom objects.

Does Sage Intacct publish its price?

No. The category data we hold lists it as quote only, through Sage or a partner, with subscription fees that depend mainly on the number of users. Implementation fees are separate, so ask for each module priced in writing.

Is the Sage Intacct XML API being shut down?

No, the developer site says the XML API is not changing and existing integrations continue to work. It also says new objects and features are released with the REST API, and the documentation moves to a new portal with the FY27 R1 release.

What breaks when I move to a small-business ledger?

Custom objects and applications built on Platform Services have no equivalent, and multi-entity features may not exist. Zoho Books lists multi-currency from Premium, and Xero's entry tier limits invoices, so check each limit against your volume.

Can I run Sage Intacct and a new system side by side?

Yes, and the Data Delivery Service supports it, since it can send only records that changed since the last run. Run the new ledger in parallel for one close, then compare trial balances before you cancel.

Where should a growing company go instead?

Toward an ERP such as NetSuite, or a per-user suite such as Odoo, whose Custom plan lists multi-company and an external API. Both need a partner for larger rollouts, so price the implementation as well as the licence.
