Bill alternatives: 11 compared

Buyers leave BILL when per-user prices multiply with every approver, when ACH, check and wire fees sit on top of the subscription, or when they need three-way matching and an ERP beyond QuickBooks and Xero. Most look at Ramp, Yooz or Stampli first; Tipalti suits suppliers abroad, Libeo and Basware suit European groups.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Bill in our accounts payable automation software ranking are Ramp, Yooz and Libeo. Choose Ramp if you want AP and a corporate card in one product with a free entry plan. The other 10 entries come from our Best Accounts Payable Automation Software in 2026 list as well, and every one is set against Bill specifically, with a note on the cases where Bill should stay.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Why buyers look past Bill

  1. Seats set the bill

The AP and AR plans are $49 (Essentials), $65 (Team) and $89 (Corporate) per user per month. Approver-only users are discounted on Corporate, but a long approval chain still adds paid seats. A company with many approvers compares this against volume-priced or flat-user tools.

  2. Payments cost extra

BILL's own FAQ says checks, ACH, instant transfers and international payments carry per-transaction fees on top of the subscription. The monthly figure on the pricing page is therefore only the software part. Buyers add expected payment volume before comparing.

  3. Larger ERPs and matching sit higher

Corporate syncs two-way with QuickBooks and Xero. NetSuite, Sage Intacct and Microsoft Dynamics sync, purchase order sync with two- and three-way matching, SSO, dual control and API access are listed under Enterprise, which is priced on request.

What each alternative does differently

1. Ramp

United States

Ramp lists a Free plan at $0 per user per month with invoice extraction, approval workflows and bill pay by ACH, card, check or wire. Plus costs $15 per user plus a platform fee by team size. It is built around a corporate card, so expect card and expense features beside AP.

2. Yooz

United States

Subscription pricing follows the volume of documents processed, and every plan has unlimited users, which removes the cost of adding approvers. A 15-day free trial runs in a production environment and four hours of onboarding service are included. Price is not listed; it comes after a calculator and a conversation.

Switch from Bill if many people approve invoices and per-seat pricing is what hurts.

3. Libeo

France

Libeo markets in French and positions itself on the 2026 French e-invoicing reform. Single-entity use is quote-only. From two entities the plan has unlimited users, consolidated views and degressive pricing. Modules include procurement, payment cards and chasing customer invoices. The pricing page is in French only.

Switch from Bill if you run several French entities and need e-invoicing readiness.

4. Stampli

United States

Stampli puts invoice discussion, including with vendors, inside the invoice record. Its pricing page lists unlimited entities, vendors and users for AP, semi-automated two- and three-way matching, and a dedicated customer success manager. No figure is published; it is a quote after a call.

Switch from Bill if you run NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Dynamics and want matching on a quote basis.

5. Tipalti

United States

Tipalti charges a platform fee from $99 per month for AP with unlimited users, plus a fee per invoice and payment. It pays in 200+ countries and territories, collects W-8 and W-9 forms, and holds money transmitter licences in the US, Canada, UK and EU. More complex setups may need paid implementation.

Switch from Bill if you pay many suppliers abroad and want tax forms handled in one place.

6. Medius

United States

Medius sells two packages, AP Essentials with one entity and AP 360 with three entities, both with unlimited users and a sandbox. AP 360 adds a supplier portal, fraud and risk detection, and a copilot assistant. Neither shows a price; both go through a quote.

Switch from Bill if you want fraud detection and a sandbox, and accept a quote-led purchase.

7. Nanonets

United States

Nanonets bills per workflow step: $0.02, $0.10 or $0.30 per block run, depending on complexity. New accounts get $50 in credits and the Starter plan allows up to 3 users. The pricing page lists extraction, classification and integrations, not a payment network, so check how bills would be paid.

Switch from Bill if you only need invoice data extraction and pay for usage rather than seats.

8. Rossum

Czech Republic

Rossum is priced as document automation. Starter is listed from $18,000 per year with unlimited seats, and Business, Enterprise and Ultimate are quoted. Documents arrive by email, API or upload for extraction and a validation screen; approval and payment apps are separate add-ons, so scope is narrower than BILL.

Switch from Bill if your problem is invoice data entry at volume and you already have payment and ERP tools.

9. Esker

France

Esker covers source-to-pay and order-to-cash on one site, with sourcing, contracts, procurement, AP, payment, credit management and cash application. Its site lists e-invoicing compliance in 60+ countries. No prices are shown. It reaches well beyond bills and suits a finance team replacing several tools.

Switch from Bill if you want payables and receivables from one vendor across many countries.

10. Basware

Finland

Basware's pricing page describes subscription modules and names no price. It lists an e-invoicing network with 220+ partners, 250+ ERP integration capabilities and VAT compliance in 60+ countries, and moves from invoice automation into eProcurement. That reach exceeds what a one-country team on QuickBooks needs.

Switch from Bill if you operate in many countries and need an e-invoicing network and VAT compliance.

11. AvidXchange

United States

AvidXchange runs a supplier network where suppliers choose virtual card, AvidPay Direct or mailed check through its Supplier Hub, and it lists 200+ integrations. It also sells AP as a service that ERP vendors embed in their own products. Pricing is by demo and quote only.

Switch from Bill if you want a managed supplier payment network and integration with your ERP.

When Bill is still the right choice

BILL remains a reasonable choice for a small business or accounting firm on QuickBooks or Xero with a handful of users, since the sync is two-way from Team upward and its network lists more than four million vendors. The Invoice Coding Agent and W-9 agent are included on the paid AP plans. If payment volume is modest, per-transaction fees may not outweigh the convenience.

What to expect when you switch from Bill

  1. Vendor data and payment history

Plan for an export of vendor records, open bills and payment history before the cancellation date, and ask each alternative how it imports them. Vendors paid through the BILL network may need new payment details or new bank-account verification at the new tool.

  2. Cancel at the end of a cycle

BILL's terms say a subscription account renews automatically each billing cycle until a user is deactivated or the account is cancelled. Time the switch to end a cycle, and settle any funds in the BILL Balance, which the terms say are held in a bank account in BILL's name.

  3. Accounting sync and approvals

Reconnect the accounting software and rebuild approval rules in the new tool, then run both systems on a small set of bills first. Approval chains built around BILL's roles rarely map one to one.

Questions and answers

Does BILL have a free plan?

Only the Spend and Expense plan is free, at $0 per user per month. The AP and AR plans are paid, with a free trial available in most cases, so AP buyers usually pay from the first bill.

Does cancelling BILL stop the charges at once?

Cancelling stops renewal, but the terms say the subscription renews each billing cycle unless the account is cancelled or a user is deactivated, so cancel before the cycle ends. Check the cancellation steps in your account first.

Will an alternative cost less than $49 per user?

It can, depending on how many users you have and how many payments you make. Ramp has a free plan, Yooz prices by documents with unlimited users, and Nanonets bills per block run. Enterprise-class tools such as Medius and Esker publish no prices.

Which alternatives support NetSuite or Sage Intacct?

Stampli, Tipalti, Ramp on Plus, and BILL itself on Enterprise all list NetSuite or Sage Intacct on their pricing or product pages. Confirm the exact edition and sync direction with the vendor before signing.

Do I lose the vendor network if I leave BILL?

Yes, BILL's network of more than four million vendors is specific to BILL. A new tool pays your vendors through its own rails, and vendors may need to re-enter bank details.

Is there an alternative with European roots?

Libeo, which runs its site in French, and Basware, which lists VAT compliance in 60+ countries, both aim at European finance teams. Both sell on quote or by meeting, so compare scope and ask for a written price before shortlisting.
