Hootsuite alternatives: 12 compared

Teams look past Hootsuite when per-user pricing multiplies across a team, when approvals sit on the third tier, or when they only need scheduling for a few channels. Most go to Sprout Social or Agorapulse for a comparable suite, to Buffer or Metricool for lower cost, and to Sendible for unlimited users.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Hootsuite in our social media management software ranking are Sprout Social, Agorapulse and Buffer. Choose Sprout Social if you want a comparable full suite with a longer trial and a published ladder of tiers. All 12 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Social Media Management Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Hootsuite and when Hootsuite is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. How it works: placement disclosure · editorial process.

Why buyers look past Hootsuite

  1. Pricing is per user

The Hootsuite plans page prices Standard at $99, Professional at $199 and Advanced at $399 per user per month on annual billing. Seats are bought as needed, so a five-person team pays five times the listed figure.

  2. Approvals start on the third tier

Content approval is listed on Advanced, at $399 per user. Standard and Professional do not include it. Agencies and regulated teams that need sign-off before publishing pay for the top self-serve tier.

  3. Account limits and quote-only depth

Standard is limited to ten social accounts, and unlimited accounts begin on Professional. Listening with 13 months of history and attribution reporting appear only on Enterprise, which is quoted. Buyers who want those features compare suites with published prices.

When Hootsuite is still the right choice

Stay with Hootsuite when several people share one calendar, you need Professional's unlimited accounts, and Advanced approvals or Enterprise listening fit your process. The plans page lists a 14-day trial, benchmarking against competitors, and report export to PDF, CSV, Excel and PowerPoint. A team already built around those reports loses time rebuilding them elsewhere.

What to expect when you switch from Hootsuite

  1. Export reports before you leave

Hootsuite states that analytics reports can be exported as CSV, XLSX, PDF or PPT. Save your historical reports in those formats before the contract ends, since other tools start collecting history only when you connect an account.

  2. Rebuild the approval path

If you rely on approvals, check which tier of the new tool includes them. Buffer lists them on its Team plan, Later on Growth, SocialBee on Accelerate, and Zoho Social on Premium. Test the sign-off flow with a real draft during the trial.

  3. Reconnect accounts and trial first

Most alternatives here offer a trial of 14 to 30 days. Connect your real channels and publish test posts from the new tool before cancelling Hootsuite, so scheduled content keeps running during the overlap.

Questions and answers

Can I export my analytics from Hootsuite?

Yes, Hootsuite states that reports can be exported as CSV, XLSX, PDF or PPT. Reports can also be shared by email or on a team dashboard. Export before cancelling, since the vendor page does not describe access after termination.

Which Hootsuite plan includes approvals?

Advanced, listed at $399 per user per month on annual billing. The plans page shows approvals as not included on Standard and Professional, and Enterprise adds advanced approval workflows.

Is there a free alternative to Hootsuite?

Yes, several. Buffer has a free plan for three channels, Metricool for one brand, and Zoho Social for one brand with six channels. All three are limited in posts, members or analytics history.

Which alternatives do not charge per user?

Buffer charges per channel, Metricool per brand, Sendible gives unlimited users on all plans, and Later prices per social set. Check the user cap on the plan, since Vista Social and SocialPilot limit users per tier.

Does Hootsuite have a free plan?

The plans page lists a 14-day free trial without a card, and does not list a free plan. Paid tiers start at $99 per user per month on annual billing.

What happens to scheduled posts when I switch?

They stay in Hootsuite and publish only while the account is active. The vendor pages we read do not describe a bulk transfer of scheduled posts, so plan on recreating the queue in the new tool.
