Teams leave Fullstory over quote-only pricing, an annual contract that steps up 7 percent at renewal, and free-plan data terms they would rather not sign. Most land on Mouseflow or PostHog for self-serve replay, on OpenReplay when recordings must stay in-house, or on Microsoft Clarity when cost is the only constraint.
Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within
the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives
go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the
established names follow in their ranked order. How it works:
placement disclosure · editorial process.
What each alternative does differently
Built around sessions rather than seats or contracts. Tiers are published and retention runs from one to twelve months across the four paid levels. The scope is narrower: replay, heatmaps, friction flags, funnels and form analytics, without Fullstory's StoryAI agents, guides or a mobile add-on.
Switch from Fullstory if you want a price list on the page and a card purchase instead of a demo call.
Mouseflow in our ranking · Go to the vendor →
Replay is one product among analytics, flags, experiments, surveys and error tracking, each with its own monthly free allowance and a billing limit you set. Free data retention is one year, seven on pay-as-you-go. Self-hosting is possible but PostHog calls it officially unsupported, so plan on Cloud.
Switch from Fullstory if engineers will own the setup and you want replay next to feature flags and experiments.
PostHog in our ranking · Go to the vendor →
Source code you can run on your own servers, with guides for AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes and Docker. A managed Dedicated instance is billed hourly with no user, recording or retention caps. The repository mixes licences and puts the ee directory under a separate one, so read them first.
Switch from Fullstory if recordings must stay on infrastructure you control and your team can operate a cluster.

4. Microsoft Clarity
United States
Costs nothing and Microsoft says it stays that way, so there is no tier to outgrow. The trade is retention: recordings last 30 days, with favorites and a random sample kept up to 9 months, and deleting one visitor's data means deleting the whole project. No product analytics layer.
Switch from Fullstory if you mostly need recordings and heatmaps on a site and no budget line exists.

5. Lucky Orange
United States
Every feature sits on every plan, and only the session count, storage days and extras change. It adds live chat, visitor view and announcements next to replay and funnels. Base storage starts at 60 days. Built for site owners and conversion work, not for engineering teams.
Switch from Fullstory if your team is a handful of marketers who want chat and replay in one script.

6. Crazy Egg
United States
Plans count pageviews and cap recordings (50 a month on Starter, 10,000 on the top tier), while team seats and domains are unlimited. A/B testing and error tracking arrive from the Plus level. A 30-day trial replaces the free plan. Aimed at page optimisation, with no user-level analytics.
Switch from Fullstory if you tune landing pages and want heatmaps plus A/B tests without per-seat charges.

7. LogRocket
United States
Aimed at the engineer who must reproduce a bug, not the researcher. Console logs, network calls and errors are unlimited and bundled, and only captured sessions are billed. Conditional recording keeps about 40 percent of sessions to cut cost. Heatmap-first marketers will find less here.
Switch from Fullstory if developers file the bug tickets and need logs and network traces attached to replays.

8. Contentsquare (Hotjar)
France
The enterprise suite Hotjar was folded into. A free plan allows 200,000 sessions a month, but with one project and one month of data access; Growth lifts that to 13 months and three projects. Larger tiers are sold through a demo, which is the same buying path as Fullstory.
Switch from Fullstory if you want a free start at high session volume and accept a sales process later.

Product analytics comes first and replay second, with charts, enrichment sources and a free tier capped at 10,000 sessions. Replay appears as an add-on on Pro and Premier, not in Free or Growth. Heap's own site says it is now part of Contentsquare, so the vendor behind it has changed.
Switch from Fullstory if you care more about funnels and charts and treat replay as a side feature.

10. Quantum Metric
United States
Priced on annual session volume, digital properties, add-ons and services, with no published figure. The pricing FAQ says collection continues if you pass the agreed session limit. It targets large enterprises with agentic AI, not self-serve teams, so expect the same demo-first route as Fullstory.
Switch from Fullstory if you are an enterprise that wants overage handled by agreement and not by a hard stop.

Incorporated in Israel as Clarisite, with offices in Petah Tikva, New York and Norwich. Pricing combines a package, a retention period and session volume, with no figure online. Capture is tagless and covers web and mobile. Its pages stress regulated sectors such as banking and insurance.
Switch from Fullstory if you work in banking or insurance and need replay with compliance records and a mobile app.

Questions and answers
Can I export my data from Fullstory?
Yes, event and individual data can be pulled with Segment Export as CSV, JSON or NDJSON, which needs an Admin or Architect API key. The pages we read do not describe exporting the replays themselves, so ask support in writing before relying on it.
How much notice does Fullstory need to cancel?
Written notice of non-renewal is due at least 60 days before the end of the current term. Without it, the order form renews for another year. Fees are non-cancelable and non-refundable unless the order form says otherwise.
How much does a Fullstory renewal cost?
A renewal at the same features carries a 7 percent premium over the previous term, according to the Terms and Conditions. Different features or quantities are priced under the order form, which the public pages do not show.
What happens to my recordings after the contract ends?
Fullstory gives access to previously captured replay data for up to 30 days after the term. It then deletes customer data from its systems no later than six months after termination, and you may ask for earlier deletion in writing.
Is there a free replacement for Fullstory?
Yes, Microsoft Clarity is free with no paid tier, Contentsquare has a free plan with 200,000 sessions, and PostHog gives 5,000 free recordings a month. Their retention differs: Clarity keeps 30 days, Contentsquare's free plan one month, PostHog's free tier one year.
Does Fullstory keep my free-plan data?
Fullstory's FullstoryFree FAQ says it receives ownership rights to anonymized non-PII data from free accounts and may use it for AI model training. Paid customers are governed by the Terms and Conditions, which treat submitted data as Customer Data.
