Greenhouse alternatives: 12 compared

Companies look past Greenhouse when quote-only pricing hides the cost, when texting, sourcing automation and the BI connector sit above the entry plan, or when a smaller team wants less configuration. Most move to Ashby or Lever for a comparable platform, or to Workable and Teamtailor for a simpler one.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Greenhouse in our applicant tracking system ranking are Ashby, Lever and Workable. Choose Ashby if you want a comparable all-in-one platform and a published entry price for a company under 100 employees. All 12 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Applicant Tracking System (ATS) in 2026, and each says where it differs from Greenhouse and when Greenhouse is still the better choice.

Why buyers look past Greenhouse

  1. Price is a quote, tiered by plan

Greenhouse publishes no prices. Its pricing page says cost depends on the plan (Core, Plus or Pro), hiring volume and organizational complexity. Buyers cannot compare it with a published rival before a sales call.

  2. Useful features sit above Core

The pricing page puts texting, Greenhouse Sourcing Automation and the Business Intelligence Connector on Plus. Audit log, developer sandbox and unlimited CRM events start on Pro. A team that needs one of them pays for the tier above.

  3. Built for governance, not for light use

Pro is described as meant for operating across regions and business units, with auditability and extensibility. A company hiring a few roles a year may not use that depth, and the plan structure assumes someone owns the configuration.

When Greenhouse is still the right choice

Greenhouse remains the right choice when structured hiring is the point: interview kits, scorecards and hiring plans per role, run by a recruiting operations owner across several teams. Companies on Pro that need an audit log, a developer sandbox and region or business-unit governance should check that a rival lists the same controls. If you already use it and the process works, the switch costs more than the saving.

What to expect when you switch from Greenhouse

  1. Pull your data through the Harvest API

Greenhouse documents the Harvest API as exposing candidates, applications, attachments such as resumes and offer packets, jobs, stages and custom fields. The docs state that Harvest v1 and v2 are deprecated with removal on August 31, 2026, so build any export on v3 and confirm it before you start.

  2. Ask what the new vendor imports

Check whether the new vendor imports Greenhouse data directly, from the API or from files, or leaves you to map fields. Scorecards, interview kits and custom fields are the parts most likely to need manual rebuilding. Run both systems on open roles until offers close.

  3. Check the contract before you announce

Contract length and renewal terms are not published, so read your order form for notice periods and what happens to data on termination. Settle the export before notice is given, and keep an archive of closed applications for retention rules.

Questions and answers

Can I export my candidate data from Greenhouse?

Yes, through the Harvest API, which exposes candidates, applications, attachments, jobs, stages and custom fields. Greenhouse's support documentation also describes a hired-candidate webhook for HRIS transfer. We found no documented one-click bulk export, so confirm the options for your plan with your account manager.

Is Harvest v1/v2 still available?

Greenhouse's documentation says Harvest v1 and v2 are deprecated and will be removed on August 31, 2026, with v3 as the replacement. Check the current docs before building an export, and use v3.

How much does Greenhouse cost compared with alternatives?

Greenhouse publishes no prices and sets cost by plan, hiring volume and organizational complexity. Rivals with published figures include Ashby from $400 a month, Workable from $299 a month and Breezy from $157 a month. Compare at your own headcount.

Which Greenhouse features need a higher plan?

Texting, Greenhouse Sourcing Automation and the Business Intelligence Connector start on Plus. Unlimited CRM events, audit log and developer sandbox start on Pro. Core covers CRM, interview kits and scorecards, scheduling, reporting and SSO.

Is there a free plan or trial to test a replacement?

Among the alternatives, Workable offers a 15-day trial, Breezy HR has a free-forever plan limited to one active position, and Zoho Recruit has a free plan for one active job. Ashby and Teamtailor direct buyers to a conversation first.

Do other ATS vendors share ownership?

Yes. Lever's site shows it as part of Employ Inc., and Jobvite's site names Employ Inc. as its owner. SmartRecruiters is owned by SAP. Check who owns a vendor before assuming the products will be kept separate.
