Workable alternatives: 13 compared

Teams look past Workable when plan prices step up with headcount, when texting, video and AI credits are billed on top, or when they want an ATS without a wider HR suite. Most look at Breezy HR or Manatal for a lower or free entry price, and at Teamtailor, Recruitee or Ashby for a more complete platform.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Workable in our applicant tracking system ranking are Breezy HR, Tellent Recruitee and Teamtailor. Choose Breezy HR if you want a free entry plan or a flat monthly fee instead of a headcount band. All 13 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Applicant Tracking System (ATS) in 2026, and each says where it differs from Workable and when Workable is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. How it works: placement disclosure · editorial process.

Why buyers look past Workable

  1. Prices rise with headcount and by renewal

The pricing page tiers every plan by company size, and the terms let Workable adjust renewal fees for inflation and for the company size at renewal, with at least 45 days' notice. A firm that grows from one band to the next pays more without hiring differently.

  2. Add-ons and AI credits sit on top of the plan

On Standard, texting is $89 a month, video interviews $109 and assessments $59. The AI agent runs on credits, 3,000 included, then $0.095 to $0.12 each. Credits expire after a year and the free trial excludes the agent.

  3. The product has become an HR suite

Pricing is now shown as a recruiting and HR bundle with an HRIS, onboarding, time-off and payroll preparation. A team that only wants an applicant tracking system may pay for a wider package than it needs.

When Workable is still the right choice

Stay when you hire for a company of 20 to 500 people without a recruiting operations team and the current plan covers your volume. Workable lists 200+ job-board connections, a Standard plan with unlimited active jobs, an ATS with custom reports and security certification (ISO/IEC 27001 and a SOC 2 Type II report on request). If the renewal quote still matches your usage, moving costs more than it saves.

What to expect when you switch from Workable

  1. Take the export before you give notice

The terms say Workable provides tools to export or retrieve customer data upon termination and at any time until termination. The pricing page lists data export capabilities and API access. Export candidates, resumes and scorecards while the account is live, and test a sample import first.

  2. Mind the renewal date and prepaid fees

The subscription renews for successive one-year terms unless either party gives written notice before the anniversary. Fees are non-cancelable and early termination refunds no prepaid fees, so time the switch to the term end rather than the day you pick a new tool.

  3. Rebuild what is not data

Careers pages, job-board connections, email templates, interview kits and automations live in the product, not in the export. List them first. Candidate consent and retention rules need recreating in the new system too, because Workable runs them as built-in GDPR tools.

Questions and answers

Can I export my candidate data from Workable?

Yes, according to the terms, which say Workable provides tools to export or retrieve customer data upon termination and until then. The pricing page lists data export capabilities and API access. Test what the export contains, such as attachments and scorecards, before you commit to the move.

How much notice does Workable need to cancel?

Written notice before the anniversary of the effective date, or cancelling the subscription in the product. The subscription otherwise renews for one year. Fees are non-refundable and non-cancelable, so do not wait for the invoice.

Will Workable raise my price at renewal?

It can. The terms allow adjusting renewal fees for inflation and for your company size at renewal, with notice at least 45 days before the next term. Add-ons and AI credits bought separately are priced on the then-current list.

Does Workable have a free plan?

No free plan appears on the pricing page. There is a 15-day free trial without a credit card, and the trial does not include the Workable agent. Free alternatives from the category include Breezy HR (one active position) and Zoho Recruit (one active job).

Is Workable's pricing public?

Yes for the entry band: the page shows $299, $599 and $719 a month for the three plans at 1 to 20 employees, billed monthly or at 20% less annually. Larger bands appear after choosing the headcount, and add-ons are priced separately.

Which alternatives publish a price?

Breezy HR (Startup $157 a month annually), Manatal ($15 per user a month annually), Ashby (Foundations from $400 a month), BambooHR (Core $10 per employee) and Recruiterflow ($149 per user). Greenhouse, Lever, Jobvite, Workstream and Teamtailor quote on request.
