Best Loan Origination Software in 2026

The short answer

  1. #1 Provenir: Low-code decisioning for credit risk and onboarding. Best for: Lenders adding fast automated decisions.
  2. #2 Newgen: Commercial credit lifecycle on a low-code platform. Best for: Banks writing commercial and SME credit.
  3. #3 Nucleus Software: Origination, servicing and collections for lenders. Best for: Lenders wanting one vendor for the loan life.

Visibility in this ranking can be paid for. Payment gives a vendor more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review. The largest vendors in loan origination software cannot hold places 1 to 3. Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order. How it works: placement disclosure · editorial process.

The 12 tools, reviewed

#1 Provenir

Low-code decisioning for credit risk and onboarding · United States · provenir.com

Decisioning Low-code Parsippany HQ

Provenir's pages describe four connected pieces: decisioning, a marketplace of identity, fraud and credit data, decision intelligence, and a case management queue for referred files. Its contact page lists offices in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, says the company was founded in 2004, and states use in more than 60 countries and by 120-plus customers.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Lenders adding fast automated decisions
  • Strengths: Credit decisioning; Data marketplace; Case management.

Where it falls short

The pages read describe decisions, data and cases. They do not show a borrower application portal, document collection or closing package generation, so a lender must supply those from another product.

Wrong for

A community bank that needs an application portal, document upload and closing paperwork in one product.

#2 Newgen

Commercial credit lifecycle on a low-code platform · India · newgensoft.com

Commercial lending Low-code Spreading

Newgen's commercial lending page covers the whole path: financial spreading, credit analysis, DSCR and cash flow tests, risk rating with stress testing, approval workflows, collateral and covenant records, document generation and loan closing. It connects to core banking, bureaus and appraisal systems.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Banks writing commercial and SME credit
  • Strengths: Financial spreading; Credit analysis; Risk rating.

Where it falls short

The product is a configurable platform, so the work of building policies, forms and integrations falls to the buyer or an implementation partner. Marketing figures on the page, such as 30 percent faster loan processing, are unsourced.

Wrong for

A credit union that mainly books consumer auto and personal loans through a simple online form.

Visit Newgen →

#3 Nucleus Software

Origination, servicing and collections for lenders · India · nucleussoftware.com

Full lifecycle Cloud or on-premise Noida HQ

FinnOne Neo CAS, the origination module, offers a rule engine, configurable workflows, scorecards at product and scheme level, video KYC and eKYC onboarding, and over 230 APIs, with deployment on cloud or on premise.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Lenders wanting one vendor for the loan life
  • Strengths: Customer acquisition system; Rule engine; Video KYC and eKYC.

Where it falls short

The customer stories on the origination page are Indian lenders, so European or US references have to be requested. The wording leans on adjectives such as robust and seamless, which says little about measured results.

Wrong for

A US credit union that wants a ready-made member portal and local bureau and core integrations.

Visit Nucleus Software →

#4 Abrigo

Origination plus credit risk for community lenders · United States · abrigo.com

Community banks Commercial lending AI agents

Abrigo's lending section lists commercial, consumer, small business, construction, equipment finance and agricultural lending as separate modules, each described as a loan origination system for banks and credit unions. Its commercial page says digital workflows and AI agents validate information against institution-specific policy, and the Abrigo APX and Lending Assistant products are the agentic part.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Community banks and credit unions
  • Strengths: Commercial loan origination; Consumer loan origination; Small business lending.

Where it falls short

Pages describe US community institutions and US regulation almost exclusively, so it is not an obvious choice outside the United States.

Wrong for

A mortgage banker or a lender outside the US.

#5 Blend

Digital application and pre-underwriting for lenders · United States · blend.com

Mortgage Borrower experience Autopilot

Blend's site splits its platform into a Lending Suite for mortgage, home equity and verifications, and a Consumer Banking Suite for deposit accounts and consumer loans. The mortgage page lists application intake, a purchase affordability simulator, soft credit pre-qualification, upfront rates, SMS notifications and disclosure delivery, plus a follow-up engine that it says identifies up to 65 percent of conditions upfront.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Credit unions and banks digitizing the borrower side
  • Strengths: Mortgage originations; Home equity; Consumer loans.

Where it falls short

The pages emphasize the borrower journey and pre-underwriting, and do not state whether Blend replaces a back-office LOS or sits in front of one, so ask.

Wrong for

A commercial bank that needs covenant tracking and spreading.

Visit Blend →

#7 Finastra

Origination for mortgage, consumer and business lending · United Kingdom · finastra.com

Broad portfolio Mortgagebot LaserPro

The origination page lists Finastra MortgagebotLOS for retail, wholesale and correspondent mortgages, LaserPro for loan documents, Originate for consumer loans and deposits, Originate for business loans and deposits, a Mortgagebot point of sale and a data insights tool. Customer stories include community banks on Mortgagebot and a bank group on its lending platform.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Banks wanting a broad vendor portfolio
  • Strengths: MortgagebotLOS; Originate consumer loans; Originate business loans.

Where it falls short

The page presents a family of products with different histories, so it takes questions to learn which ones share data and which are separate systems.

Wrong for

A small lender that wants one product, one screen and a short contract.

Visit Finastra →

#8 nCino

Bank operating platform with lending at its center · United States · ncino.com

Commercial AI agents Large institutions

nCino's site lists Commercial Lending, Consumer Lending, Small Business Lending and Mortgage as separate solutions, alongside Commercial Onboarding, Account Opening, portfolio and operations analytics, and an Integration Gateway. Its newer pages introduce role-based AI Digital Partners for executives, analysts, service staff and processors, plus a Banking Advisor and Mortgage Advisor.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Banks that want origination and monitoring together
  • Strengths: Commercial lending; Consumer lending; Small business lending.

Where it falls short

The site blocked the automated page requests used for this ranking, so the product detail here comes from a rendered summary and not from raw pages.

Wrong for

A credit union or small bank that needs a modest consumer loan flow soon.

Visit nCino →

#9 ICE Mortgage Technology (Encompass)

Mortgage origination system of record · United States · mortgagetech.ice.com

Mortgage only System of record eClose

ICE's mortgage technology page describes Encompass as the end-to-end digital mortgage solution, with a product and pricing engine for rate sheets, Consumer Connect for online applications and document upload, eClose for settlement with agents and eSignature, Mortgage Analyzers that compare extracted document data against loan data to flag exceptions, and Developer Connect for custom builds.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Mortgage lenders and IMBs
  • Strengths: Single system of record; Product and pricing engine; Consumer Connect.

Where it falls short

It is mortgage software only, so a bank that also writes commercial or auto loans needs separate systems. The suite is assembled from many add-ons, each with its own contract line, which raises the real price.

Wrong for

A credit union with a handful of mortgages a month, or any lender that mainly books non-mortgage credit.

Visit ICE Mortgage Technology (Encompass) →

#10 Jack Henry

LoanVantage origination from a core processor · United States · jackhenry.com

Core vendor LoanVantage Community banks

Jack Henry's lending pages describe LoanVantage as its digital origination platform, with commercial lending for C&I, CRE, secured, unsecured, ABL and SBA loans and a consumer layer added in January 2021. The company bought Vanguard Software Group for underwriting, spreading and online decisioning of commercial loans.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Institutions already on a Jack Henry core
  • Strengths: LoanVantage; Commercial lending; Consumer loans.

Where it falls short

Value depends on the core: for lenders on another core, most of the integration benefit disappears. Several pages found are from earlier years, so current features should be confirmed.

Wrong for

A lender on a different core that wants a neutral origination tool.

Visit Jack Henry →

#11 Temenos

Origination module inside a core banking suite · Switzerland · temenos.com

Core banking Infinity Geneva HQ

A Temenos factsheet describes Infinity Loan Origination for direct and indirect lending, driven by configurable business rules and matrices, with automated credit report retrieval from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, a guided online application and an API for submitting loans and receiving status.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Banks replacing or extending a Temenos core
  • Strengths: Direct and indirect lending; Rules and matrices; Credit bureau pulls.

Where it falls short

No current product page for Infinity Loan Origination turned up on temenos.com by search or direct address, and the most detailed documents found are 2019 factsheets, so current functionality needs verification.

Wrong for

A credit union or nonbank lender that has no Temenos core and wants a standalone origination tool.

Visit Temenos →

#12 Mambu

Cloud lending core with partner-built origination · Netherlands · mambu.com

Lending core Partner ecosystem Amsterdam entity

Mambu's lending page describes a configurable lending core: product rules, pricing, terms and workflows set once and reused, with onboarding, KYC, decisioning, payments, servicing and CRM connected through an API-first approach and partners. Its documentation names partners for origination, including nCino, Credisense and VeriPark, and a partner announcement describes an SME loan origination offering built on Mambu.

  • Pricing: Quote only. Pricing on request; no price appears on the pages read on 31 October 2026. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Lenders building on a modern core
  • Strengths: Lending engine; Product configuration; Servicing automation.

Where it falls short

Mambu does not itself describe an application portal or underwriting workflow, so origination is a second purchase and a second integration project.

Wrong for

A bank or lender that wants an out-of-the-box origination system with underwriting screens.

Visit Mambu →

What this category is

Loan origination software handles the front half of a loan's life: collecting the application and documents, running credit and fraud checks, applying underwriting and pricing rules, routing exceptions to a person, generating disclosures and closing documents, and passing the booked loan to a servicing system.

How we ranked these

Five tests, applied to every product. The order is not the tests alone: places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them, and the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order.

  • Setup: Policy rules, bureau links and the core connection.
  • The real price: Quotes, volume tiers and services.
  • Getting your data out: Loan files, documents and audit trails.
  • Independence from the vendor: Core ties and rule ownership.
  • Who it's for: Lender type and loan type decide the shortlist.

What the data says about this market

Of the twelve vendors compared here, seven are headquartered in the United States, two in India, and one each in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the Netherlands. That mix reflects where the product categories were defined. Community banks and credit unions in the US have long bought origination as a standalone system on top of a core from a different supplier, and the US vendors serve that split. Elsewhere, origination is more often bundled with the core, which explains why Finastra, Temenos and Mambu appear with lending platforms rather than a single origination module.

How to choose

  1. Define the loan types and the volume. Write down every loan product you originate today and want to add within three years, with annual counts for each.
  2. Test one real loan end to end. Ask each shortlisted vendor to run a loan from your own recent files through their sandbox: the application, a document upload, a credit pull, a rule-based decision, an exception override and the closing package.
  3. Price the exit before you sign. Request a worked quote at your current volume and at double, and a separate line for implementation and data conversion.

Questions and answers

What is the best loan origination software in 2026?

Provenir ranks first of 12, best for lenders adding fast automated decisions. Newgen is second (banks writing commercial and SME credit) and Nucleus Software third (lenders wanting one vendor for the loan life). Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands, wherever the category has them.

What is the difference between a loan origination system and a loan servicing system?

Origination covers everything up to funding: the application, verification, underwriting, approval and closing documents. Servicing starts after funding and handles payment schedules, statements, escrow, collections and payoff. Some vendors sell both.

How long does it take to implement a loan origination system?

Vendors rarely publish timelines, and the honest range is wide. A cloud tool for one consumer loan product at a credit union can be configured in a few months.

Does loan origination software publish its prices?

Not in this ranking.

Which loan origination systems work for mortgage lending?

From this list, ICE Mortgage Technology's Encompass is the mortgage-specific system, described on its own page as an end-to-end digital mortgage solution with a single system of record. Blend sells a mortgage suite built around the borrower application.

Can a small bank or credit union use the enterprise vendors?

Some of them were built for exactly that segment. nCino, Jack Henry, MeridianLink and Abrigo all describe community and regional institutions as their customers.

Is loan origination software the same as a decisioning engine?

No. A decisioning engine takes application data and returns an approve, decline or refer outcome, often in under a second. Provenir is the clearest example on this list: its pages describe decisioning, data and case management.

How do I move from one loan origination system to another?

Plan three separate transfers: open loans in process, closed loans that must remain accessible, and the rules and templates. Open pipeline loans are often finished in the old system while new applications go to the new one.

Do loan origination vendors support European lenders?

Two vendors here are headquartered in Europe: Finastra in London and Temenos in Switzerland, with Mambu's contracting entity in Amsterdam. Newgen lists a London office and Nucleus Software a UK office.

What does AI actually do in loan origination today?

On the vendors' own pages, AI appears in four places: extracting data from documents such as tax returns and bank statements, checking a file against the lender's written policy, summarizing a file for an underwriter, and answering staff questions inside the system.

What should I ask a vendor about compliance?

Ask which regulations the product is maintained against and how often the content is updated: disclosure forms and timing, adverse action notices, fair lending monitoring, small business data reporting and state-level requirements for US lenders.
