Gemini is the easier first test for a company that already lives in Google accounts, since its paid plans put the assistant inside Gmail and Docs and bundle storage. ChatGPT is the stronger choice for a business that wants a standalone assistant with a documented business tier, SSO and an explicit statement on training data. For regulated teams the privacy terms decide it more than the models do.

Google's subscriptions page puts Gemini inside Gmail, Docs and Vids on paid plans, and Google Workspace business plans list Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Meet. ChatGPT is a separate app and workspace that connects to your tools through plugins and connectors. For a team that spends the day in Google apps, Gemini removes a copy-and-paste step that ChatGPT keeps.

ChatGPT publishes one team tier: Business at $20 per user per month on annual billing, with SAML SSO and MFA, and Enterprise with SCIM, EKM and audit logs. Gemini's consumer subscriptions page sends business buyers to a separate tab, and Workspace prices vary by country. We could not read a single Gemini business seat price, so ChatGPT is easier to budget for.

Prompt privacy and retention

Google's Gemini privacy hub says chats reviewed by humans, with related data, are kept for up to three years even if you delete your activity, and auto-delete defaults to 18 months. OpenAI's pricing docs state that Business data is not used for training by default and list retention and residency controls on Enterprise. For sensitive prompts the ChatGPT business tier is the clearer position.

Google AI Plus is $4.99 a month and Google AI Pro $19.99 with 5 TB of storage, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, and Chrome features. ChatGPT Go is $8, Plus $20, and Pro $100, $200 or $500, with image generation missing from Free. Gemini's Free plan includes image generation and Deep Research. For a small team of individuals paying their own way, Google bundles more per dollar.

Usage limits and ladder

Google states usage as multiples: Plus gives 2x the free allowance, Pro 4x, and Ultra up to 20x Pro. OpenAI shows estimated local messages per five-hour period by model, and notes that ChatGPT Work and Codex draw on the same credits. Neither vendor guarantees a fixed number, and both change model and tier names often. Treat both as variable allowances and test them on your own workload.
