Procore vs Buildertrend
Procore is the standard platform for commercial general contractors, with drawings, RFIs, submittals and financials priced by annual construction volume. Buildertrend is built around the homeowner, with a client portal, selections, change orders and job costing for residential builders and remodelers. Commercial contractors choose Procore; custom home builders and remodelers choose Buildertrend.

Where they differ
Commercial document control
Procore keeps drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, meetings and closeout in one project record, and that is the work commercial jobs run on. Buildertrend's commercial workflows such as submittals and formal RFIs are limited. For anything with drawing control requirements, Procore is the answer.
Edge: Procore
Homeowner experience
Buildertrend lets clients approve selections and change orders, see photos and schedules, and pay online, which cuts evening phone calls. It also carries CoConstruct's former selections strengths. Procore's residential features such as client selections are weak. For a custom home builder the client portal decides this.
Edge: Buildertrend
How the price is built
Procore charges an upfront annual fee per product, based on annual construction volume, with unlimited users and unlimited storage, and quotes after a sales process. Buildertrend sells flat company-wide monthly plans in three tiers with unlimited users after a demo. We did not load Buildertrend's pricing page this session, so its figures are not confirmed here. A small builder can usually fit a flat fee; a large contractor with volume-based pricing gets quoted on work done.
Edge: even
Learning curve and rollout
Both are broad. Buildertrend is dense and new users face a steep first month, according to our category entry. Procore's breadth means setup and training take real effort too, and some advanced financial tools cost extra. Neither is quick to roll out, so we call it even.
Edge: even
Financial controls
Procore ties change events to commitments and budgets and connects to most accounting systems through its marketplace. Buildertrend offers estimating, purchase orders, job costing and a close QuickBooks sync. Procore goes deeper for multi-project commercial financials; Buildertrend is enough for a builder running a handful of homes.
Edge: Procore
Tally: Procore 2, Buildertrend 1, even 2.
When neither fits
Neither fits a trade subcontractor, who is better served by Knowify, or a small team that wants simple field documentation and cost tracking without a commitment. Contractor Foreman and JobTread cost less and ask less to set up.

Questions and answers
Does Procore charge per user?
No. Procore's pricing page says it charges an upfront annual fee by product, based on annual construction volume, and that it never charges for additional users, including clients, subcontractors and vendors.
Does Buildertrend charge per user?
Our category entry describes flat company-wide monthly plans in three tiers with unlimited users, sold after a demo. We could not load Buildertrend's pricing page this session, so tier names and prices are unverified.
Is Procore or Buildertrend better for residential remodeling?
Buildertrend, because its client portal, selections, allowances and change orders target homeowners. Procore's residential features such as client selections are weak, and its volume-based contract suits large commercial work more than small remodels.
Can a subcontractor use Procore without paying?
Procore says it does not charge for adding subcontractors and other collaborators as users on a customer's project. Whether a subcontractor needs its own paid contract to use Procore for its own business is not covered on that page.
