Namecheap alternatives: 11 compared

Owners of a handful of domains look past Namecheap when they want a registrar that prints one renewal price, publishes at-cost pricing, or sits outside a hosting-and-email storefront. Most go first to Porkbun, Cloudflare Registrar or Dynadot, and managers who want a flat all-in price go to Squarespace Domains or Hover.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Namecheap in our domain registrars ranking are Porkbun, Cloudflare Registrar and Dynadot. Choose Porkbun if you want one table covering register, renew and transfer with fees included. Each of the 11 options is a ranked entry in Best Domain Registrars in 2026; the notes explain how it differs from Namecheap and where Namecheap still wins.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. • Pricing model: Per domain / year
  • Free option: None
  • Built for: Cost-aware buyers wanting a familiar brand
  • Wrong for: Buyers who want the lowest honest cost and no upsells, who should look at Cloudflare or Porkbun, and companies needing contractual support terms. Squarespace Domains is simpler if the price must be one flat number.

Why buyers look past Namecheap

  1. The price is not readable before you search

Namecheap's home, domains, transfer and legal pages returned access denied to automated requests in this review, so we could not read a price from them. Only the help articles loaded. Check the renewal price for your extension in the cart, not in a remembered first-year figure.

  2. A domain account that also sells everything else

Namecheap's navigation lists domains next to shared hosting, VPS, business email, SSL certificates, a VPN and cyber insurance. That suits a buyer who wants one account for it all. A buyer who only needs a name and DNS has more to read past at checkout.

  3. A second registrar brand from the same team

Namecheap's help center describes Spaceship as an ICANN-accredited registrar built by the Namecheap team, and publishes a guide for moving a domain there. Buyers weighing a move therefore meet two brands from one company and have to decide which one is the long-term home.

What each alternative does differently

1. Porkbun

United States

Its price table states that prices cover non-premium single-year registrations, renewals and transfers, and include ICANN and other fees. Free WHOIS privacy, SSL and URL forwarding come with every domain, plus up to 20 email forwards. Bulk transfer accepts up to 500 domains per submission.

Switch from Namecheap if you want one table covering register, renew and transfer with fees included.

2. Cloudflare Registrar

United States

Cloudflare says it does not mark up domain prices: you pay what registries and ICANN charge it, for registration, renewal and transfer. Transfers require the domain to be active on Cloudflare first, which means moving nameservers before you enter the authorization code.

Switch from Namecheap if you want at-cost renewals and accept Cloudflare as your DNS provider.

Company website → · Where Cloudflare Registrar ranks and why

3. Dynadot

United States

The price table lists .com at one figure for register, renew and transfer (shown in euros on our fetch), with columns for larger accounts. Free domain privacy, a website builder and a custom email address are listed for all domains. Most transfers include a one-year renewal.

Switch from Namecheap if you want the same .com price for register, renew and transfer.

Company website → · Where Dynadot ranks and why

4. Hover

Canada

Pricing is per year in USD, with free WHOIS privacy on supported domains. A volume discount comes off the renewal price: $0.25 per domain from 10 domains, rising to $5.00 per domain at 400 or more. A transfer adds one year to the time you already hold.

Switch from Namecheap if you hold 10 or more names and want a volume discount off renewals.

Company website → · Where Hover ranks and why

5. Squarespace Domains

United States

The page states that the price you see is the price you pay, with taxes and fees included. WHOIS privacy, SSL, premium DNS, email forwarding and two-factor authentication are listed as included, and DNSSEC is offered through CloudDNS.

Switch from Namecheap if you want one flat price with taxes included and security features bundled.

Company website → · Where Squarespace Domains ranks and why

6. Name.com

United States

Name.com says every domain transfer includes a free renewal, WHOIS privacy under its Domain Safe bundle, and an SSL certificate. New customers can get 15 percent off up to 10 transfers with a promo code. It describes itself as part of Identity Digital.

Switch from Namecheap if you are moving a few names and want a renewal included in the transfer.

Company website → · Where Name.com ranks and why

7. Gandi

France

Its .com page lists registration and transfer at €11.65 and renewal at €31.98 or €28.78 a year depending on term, so the renewal is far above the first year. A free SSL certificate and LiveDNS nameservers with DNSSEC and anycast come with the domain.

Switch from Namecheap if you want anycast DNS bundled and accept a renewal above the first-year price.

Company website → · Where Gandi ranks and why

8. TransIP

Netherlands

Prices are in euros and exclude VAT, with first-year promotional rates of €8.99 for .com and €7.99 for .eu on the page. It offers more than 450 extensions, switches on DNSSEC automatically and the page is branded TransIP by team.blue.

Switch from Namecheap if you want euro prices excluding VAT and DNSSEC on by default.

Company website → · Where TransIP ranks and why

9. INWX

Germany

Registry Lock, GlobalBlock and a Whois Privacy product are listed as separate services, and a Trustee Service supplies a local address for country codes that require one. INWX also offers to manage a transfer for you. Its price list loads interactively, so no .com figure is quoted here.

Switch from Namecheap if you hold country-code domains or need registry lock for important names.

Company website → · Where INWX ranks and why

10. Sav

United States

Sav pairs a registrar with a marketplace, auctions and backorders, and says WHOIS privacy is free for most domains. An API is described for bulk management, and bulk pricing is offered to those who register or transfer many names.

Switch from Namecheap if you buy and sell names and want auctions, an API and bulk pricing in one account.

Company website → · Where Sav ranks and why

11. GoDaddy

United States

GoDaddy's own help page for leaving it asks you to unlock the domain, turn off Domain Privacy and downgrade Domain Protection to none, and says bundled domains cannot move within 120 days of registration.

Switch from Namecheap if you already run hosting or email at GoDaddy and want it all with one provider.

When Namecheap is still the right choice

Stay with Namecheap if you want one account for domains, hosting and email, and the free Domain Privacy it adds to registrations, renewals, reactivations and transfers is enough for you. It also fits when you move domains in bulk, since its help center documents bulk transfer in and out, and when you want the option of Spaceship from the same team.

What to expect when you switch from Namecheap

  1. Unlock the domain and request the authorization code

Namecheap's help article says a domain must be more than 60 days old, not transferred in the last 60 days, and unlocked. In the Domain List, open Manage, then Sharing & Transfer, and use Transfer Out to unlock and send the code to the registrant email. Namecheap then has 5 days to release the domain.

  2. Watch the registrant email, country codes and expiry

The authorization code goes to the registrant contact, which may differ from your account email. Namecheap notes that .UK, .IS, .ES, .CH, .LI, .DE, .FR and .TO follow different rules, and that an expired domain cannot be unlocked until you contact support. Renew early rather than move a lapsing name.

  3. Keep DNS answering during the move

Set up the records at the new registrar or DNS host before you start, then change nameservers once the transfer completes. Cloudflare, for one, requires the domain to be active on its nameservers before it accepts an authorization code. Free Domain Privacy ends with the move unless the new registrar bundles its own.

Questions and answers

How do I transfer a domain away from Namecheap?

Sign in, open Domain List, click Manage, go to Sharing & Transfer, then unlock the domain and request the authorization code under Transfer Out. The code is emailed to the registrant address, and you submit it at the new registrar, which starts the transfer at registry level.

How long does Namecheap take to release a domain?

Namecheap says it has 5 days to release a domain once the new registrar starts the transfer, in line with ICANN transfer policy. Its bulk transfer guide says transfers in complete automatically in 5 to 7 days for most domains. Country-code domains can take a different path.

Can I transfer many Namecheap domains at once?

Yes, the Domain List lets you select domains, choose Actions, then Transfer Out, unlock them and send authorization codes in one step. Coming the other way, Namecheap's bulk transfer page takes up to 50 domain names per order, so larger moves need several orders.

Do I keep free Domain Privacy if I leave Namecheap?

No, the free Domain Privacy subscription is a Namecheap service added to its own registrations, renewals, reactivations and transfers. When you leave, check what the new registrar includes. Porkbun, Dynadot, Hover, Name.com and Squarespace Domains each state a privacy offer on their pages.

Does Namecheap offer another registrar to move to?

Yes, Spaceship, which Namecheap's help center describes as an ICANN-accredited registrar built by the Namecheap team. The guide says the transfer price includes a one-year renewal and that you do not lose the current term. It is a second brand, not a separate company.

What happens to a recently renewed or expired domain I move?

Do not transfer within 45 days of the previous expiration date if you reactivated it after expiry. The Spaceship guide warns that the new registrar renews for one year and the reactivation year added by the old one is revoked. Namecheap also says an expired domain cannot be unlocked without support.
