Fivetran alternatives: 11 compared

Teams look past Fivetran when row-based metering makes the monthly bill hard to forecast, when a few busy sources or many small connections push spend up, or when they want to run the engine themselves. Most move to Airbyte for self-hosting, Hevo for event-based plans, and Portable for a flat fee.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Fivetran in our ETL and data integration tools ranking are Airbyte, Hevo and Portable. Choose Airbyte if you want the option to run the engine yourself or prefer credit-based hosted pricing. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best ETL Tools in 2026, and each says where it differs from Fivetran and when Fivetran is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Fivetran at a glance

  • Headquarters: United States
  • Pricing model: Usage-based
  • Pricing: Usage-based on monthly active rows per connection across Free, Standard, Enterprise and Business Critical plans; transformations free to 5,000 model runs a month, then $0.01 per run; annual contracts save up to 22%.
  • Free option: Free plan
  • Built for: Teams with many SaaS sources
  • Wrong for: Teams with a few very large, constantly changing tables will find the meter hard to forecast; Portable's flat fee or Airbyte Core suits them better. Anyone needing to self-host the engine should skip it.

Why buyers look past Fivetran

  1. Metering by monthly active rows is hard to forecast

Fivetran charges per connection on monthly active rows, and counts inserts, updates and deletes. Its own examples run from $15.88 for Google Analytics 4 to $424.54 for Marketo. A source with churning tables moves the bill month to month, and a $5 base charge applies to each standard connection.

  2. The free plan has a hard edge

The Free plan covers 500,000 monthly active rows and 5,000 model runs. If transformations pass 5,000 runs a second time, Fivetran says it freezes connections, jobs and the account until you upgrade. A team that grows past the free tier should plan for a paid plan.

  3. Ownership changed in 2026

Fivetran says its merger with dbt Labs completed on June 1, 2026, with George Fraser staying as CEO. Buyers who want data movement and transformation from separate vendors now find both layers under one owner, and may prefer a tool outside that group.

What each alternative does differently

1. Airbyte

Open-source data movement with a managed cloud option · United States

Open core under the Elastic License 2.0, so you can self-host Airbyte Core for free, while the hosted plans meter by credits (Standard from $20 a month, Plus from $189). Hosted syncs run hourly on Standard and every 15 minutes on Plus. You take on upgrades and monitoring if you self-host.

Switch from Fivetran if you want the option to run the engine yourself or prefer credit-based hosted pricing.

Pricing: Cloud Standard starts at $20 a month with 5 credits included and extra credits at $5; Plus starts at $189 a month; Pro and Flex are quoted. (open source)

2. Hevo

Managed no-code pipelines billed by events · United States

A smaller managed pipeline tool billed by events instead of rows: a free plan covers 1M events a month and Starter begins at $265 a month on annual billing. The Starter plan lists 170+ connectors, against the 700+ Fivetran shows, so check each source first.

Switch from Fivetran if your sources are mainstream and you want a free tier plus a flat monthly plan.

Pricing: Free plan up to 1M events a month; Starter from $265 a month on annual billing ($299 monthly); Professional from $750 ($849 monthly); Business Critical quoted. (free plan)

3. Portable

Flat-fee ELT with a very long connector list · United States

Sells flat monthly plans by number of enabled flows (a flow is one source and destination pair), with unlimited data volume: $1,800 for 6 flows, $2,800 for 15. Custom connectors are built by its engineers on the Pro plan. Few flows plus heavy volume is where this fee beats row metering.

Switch from Fivetran if one or two very large sources make your row-based bill hard to forecast.

Pricing: Standard $1,800 a month for 6 enabled flows, Pro $2,800 for 15, Enterprise quoted; data volume is unlimited and a custom-connector service is a $2,000 monthly add-on. (free trial)

4. Keboola

Data platform with pipelines, transformations and governance · Czech Republic

A data platform rather than a pure pipeline tool: extraction, SQL and Python transformations and storage live together, with 1,500+ sources listed. Billing is by compute minutes, and the free plan gives 60 a month. Enterprise adds your own warehouse backend. It replaces more of the stack than Fivetran does.

Switch from Fivetran if you want extraction, transformation and storage in one workspace instead of connectors alone.

Pricing: Free plan with 120 compute minutes in the first month and 60 a month afterward, extra minutes at $0.14; Enterprise is quoted. (free plan)

Full review: #5 of 12 in our ranking · Visit Keboola →

5. Matillion

Low-code pipelines that transform inside your warehouse · United Kingdom

Built around pipeline design in a low-code canvas with SQL and Python components, not around prebuilt replication alone. Spend is in credits consumed by task hours and extra developer users, and the pricing page shows no per-credit price. Developer edition includes one developer user. Better for teams that author transformations.

Switch from Fivetran if your analysts want to design and transform pipelines in a visual editor inside the warehouse.

Pricing: Consumption-based credits across Developer, Teams and Scale editions; the pricing page shows no per-credit figure, so expect to ask for a quote. (free trial)

6. Skyvia

Cloud data integration with published low-cost plans · Slovakia

A browser-based service from Devart with a free tier of 10,000 records a month and paid plans of $99, $199 and $499 monthly, less on annual billing. Schedules run once a day on the lowest two plans and once a minute on Professional. Suited to modest volumes rather than large replication.

Switch from Fivetran if your volumes are modest and you want a low fixed monthly price with a free tier.

Pricing: Free tier at 10,000 records a month; Basic $99, Standard $199 and Professional $499 monthly with discounts on annual billing; Enterprise is quoted. (free plan)

7. Azure Data Factory

Azure-native orchestration and data movement service · United States

Microsoft's cloud service for building and orchestrating pipelines inside Azure, metered separately for orchestration runs, data movement in DIU-hours and pipeline activity hours. The pricing table did not render server-side when we checked, so confirm figures in the Azure calculator. You assemble pipelines yourself.

Switch from Fivetran if your warehouse and workloads already sit in Azure and you accept building pipelines yourself.

Pricing: Pay as you go, with separate meters for orchestration runs, data movement in DIU-hours and pipeline activity hours; the price table did not render server-side, so no figures are quoted here. (free trial)

8. AWS Glue

Serverless Spark ETL and data catalog on AWS · United States

A serverless AWS service priced per DPU-hour for jobs, billed by the second, with the Data Catalog's first million objects free. You write Spark or Python jobs for each source, so it is a build option, not a managed connector library. Natural when your data already lands in S3.

Switch from Fivetran if your data lands in S3 and your team writes its own Spark or Python jobs.

Pricing: ETL jobs, crawlers and sessions are billed per DPU-hour, shown as $0.44 on the pricing page's examples and billed by the second; the first million Data Catalog objects and requests are free. (free trial)

9. Boomi

iPaaS with data integration, CDC and API management · United States

The Boomi Data Integration page lists Base, Professional, Professional Plus and Enterprise editions, all sold through sales, and a free 30-day trial of the platform. The page refers to Rivery's API and CLI, which we did not trace further. Sits inside a broader integration estate, with no list prices.

Switch from Fivetran if you want data replication inside a wider integration platform and accept quote-only pricing.

Pricing: Data Integration comes in Base (introductory pay as you go), Professional, Pro Plus and Enterprise editions, all marked talk to sales; there is a 30-day trial. (free trial)

10. SnapLogic

Visual data and application integration platform · United States

Packages called Essential, Professional and Enterprise One, with no prices published. The vendor states unlimited pipelines and data movement for one predictable price, which removes row metering entirely but moves the cost conversation to a sales negotiation. Aimed at enterprise application and data integration.

Switch from Fivetran if you want a fixed enterprise price with unlimited data movement and will negotiate it.

Pricing: Packages named Essential, Professional and Enterprise One with no prices shown; pricing is by quote. (none)

Full review: #11 of 12 in our ranking · Visit SnapLogic →

11. Informatica

Enterprise data management cloud, part of Salesforce · United States

Consumption priced in Informatica Pricing Units across many modules, by quote, with no list prices on the page. The scope runs well beyond replication into the wider data management platform, so it suits large estates with governance needs and is more than a pipeline-only buyer needs.

Switch from Fivetran if you run a large estate that needs data management modules beyond pipelines.

Pricing: Consumption pricing in Informatica Pricing Units across modules, by quote; no list prices are published. (free trial)

When Fivetran is still the right choice

Stay with Fivetran when you have many standard SaaS and database sources, little appetite to run infrastructure, and modest change volume per source. Connectors are maintained by the vendor, plans start free, and each new connection gets a 14-day free period. Enterprise License Agreements offer a fixed yearly price for teams that value predictability over unit cost.

What to expect when you switch from Fivetran

  1. Your data stays in your destination

Fivetran writes into a destination you own, such as Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks, so loaded tables remain after you leave. Check the fivetran-prefixed system columns, such as the soft-delete flag, because a new tool will name and handle them differently, and downstream models may depend on them.

  2. Expect a full reload and a parallel run

A new tool starts with its own initial sync, and table and column names often differ. Run both for a billing cycle, compare row counts, and only then cancel. Re-syncs and initial syncs are free MAR at Fivetran, but the replacement may bill them.

  3. Check connector coverage and schedules first

Fivetran lists 700+ managed connectors and 15-minute syncs on Standard. Hevo lists 170+ connectors on Starter, and Airbyte's hourly interval on Standard is slower. Map every live source, its sync interval and any change-data-capture need to the target before you commit to a date.

Questions and answers

Can I keep my data if I leave Fivetran?

Yes, the tables Fivetran loaded sit in your own warehouse or lake and stay there. Its destination documentation lists the warehouses, databases and lakes it loads into, and you hold the account. Only the pipelines stop, so queries keep working until the source tables go stale.

Which tools price differently from monthly active rows?

Most of the alternatives do. Airbyte meters credits, Hevo counts events, Keboola bills compute minutes, Matillion uses credits for task hours, Portable charges per enabled flow, and Glue bills DPU-hours. SnapLogic and Informatica quote prices, so compare on your own volumes, not list rates.

What does Fivetran cost at a typical size?

Fivetran publishes median list prices per connector, from $15.88 a month for Google Analytics 4 to $424.54 for Marketo, on the Standard plan for a company of 1 to 200 employees. Annual contracts save up to 22%, and discounts begin at 5% on the annual list price.

Does leaving Fivetran mean losing my transformations?

Not automatically. Fivetran's Transformations integrate dbt Core, which is a separate open-source tool, so models written for it can run elsewhere. Quickstart data models are a Fivetran feature tied to its connectors, so check which of yours depend on them before you cancel.

Is there a free option to test a replacement?

Yes, several. Airbyte gives a 14-day trial with 400 credits, Hevo has a free plan up to 1M events a month, Keboola a free plan with compute minutes, Skyvia 10,000 records a month, Portable a 14-day trial, and Boomi a 30-day trial.

Can I self-host instead of using Fivetran's cloud?

Only with some alternatives. Airbyte Core is free to self-host, but the license is Elastic License 2.0, not an open-source license, and you run the upgrades. Fivetran itself offers a Hybrid Deployment option on Enterprise, where data processing stays in your environment.
