Best Org Chart Software in 2026

The short answer

  1. #1 OrgChart: Automated org charts from HR data. Best for: Mid-sized HR teams charting 100+ people.
  2. #2 ChartHop: Org chart that grows into an HR platform. Best for: Scaling companies tying chart to planning.
  3. #3 Ingentis: Org chart, analytics and org design. Best for: Large employers redesigning structure.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. The largest vendors in org chart software cannot hold places 1 to 3. Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order. How it works: placement disclosure · editorial process.

The 11 tools, reviewed

#1 OrgChart

Automated org charts from HR data · United States · theorgchart.com

Org charts HRIS sync Position management

OrgChart is a company that makes org charts and little else, which is why it leads. Its site names more than 50 HR systems it reads from, and the chart refreshes on the cadence the buyer sets. The pricing page is the clearest in this group: three tiers, each quoted per 100 employees charted, so a 300-person company can multiply and budget before a call.

  • Pricing: Per employees charted / month. Core from $105 a month, Plus from $157 and Pro from $263, each for 100 employees charted and billed annually. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Mid-sized HR teams charting 100+ people
  • Strengths: Automated charts from 50+ HR data sources; Custom colors and filters; Chart calculations and visuals.

Where it falls short

It is a charting layer, not an HR system. It will not hold performance, pay or onboarding records, and the entry price per 100 charted employees climbs with headcount.

Wrong for

Companies that want org charts as one module of a full people platform, or teams under about 50 people for whom a free diagram tool is enough.

#2 ChartHop

Org chart that grows into an HR platform · United States · charthop.com

Org chart Headcount planning HRIS

ChartHop earns its place by connecting the chart to what comes after it. Its site says most teams see live data in an org chart on day one, helped by integrations with more than 100 systems, and describes weeks, not months, of implementation. From there the same data supports headcount plans, pay reviews and goals.

  • Pricing: Quote only. No prices published; a three-question form produces a proposal for ChartHop Core plus chosen modules. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Scaling companies tying chart to planning
  • Strengths: Live org chart from synced data; Headcount planning; Compensation reviews.

Where it falls short

The site now leads with organizational intelligence, HCM and AI, so a buyer who only wants a chart is paying for a platform pitch. Prices are hidden behind a form, and modules add up. Nothing public describes a standalone chart-only tier.

Wrong for

A company of 40 people with a simple reporting structure that only needs a printable chart.

Visit ChartHop →

#3 Ingentis

Org chart, analytics and org design · Germany · ingentis.com

Org chart Org design Analytics

Ingentis has been building the same product since 1997, and the site traces org.manager to market maturity in 2001. The platform splits into an org chart module, analytics, design simulations, data management and role-based distribution lists, so a buyer can start with the chart and add the rest. It is the one German-headquartered option here, with offices listed in the US and the UK.

  • Pricing: Quote only. No prices published on the pages we read; demo and quote only. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Large employers redesigning structure
  • Strengths: Automatic org chart visualization; Org analytics dashboards; Org design simulations.

Where it falls short

It is a heavy product for a modest question.

Wrong for

A start-up or a 100-person firm that wants a chart this week.

Visit Ingentis →

#4 Microsoft Visio

Diagramming with an org chart template · United States · microsoft.com

Diagramming Microsoft 365 Org charts

Visio is a general diagramming tool, and org charts are one of its listed uses on Microsoft's site. It earns a middle place because a company already on Microsoft 365 can draw and share a reporting chart for a few dollars per user, with Teams and OneDrive close by. The org chart page describes a chart for team, hierarchy or reporting structure shared with employees.

  • Pricing: Per user / month. Visio Plan 1 starts at $5.00 per user a month, paid yearly, with a web app and 2 GB of OneDrive storage. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Microsoft 365 shops drawing charts by hand
  • Strengths: Org chart diagrams; Professional templates; Web version of Visio.

Where it falls short

Visio is a drawing tool. The pages we read do not describe pulling a chart from an HRIS and keeping it current, so someone edits boxes by hand after every hire and exit.

Wrong for

A company with more than a couple of hundred people and frequent changes.

Visit Microsoft Visio →

#5 Workleap

Org chart and directory in a manager suite · Canada · workleap.com

Org chart Directory Manager suite

Pingboard's own site now reads "Pingboard is now Workleap" and says the cloud org chart and directory carry on inside the Workleap suite. The chart is built from an HRIS integration or an Excel upload, and an existing chart can be copied in. That makes it a fit for a company of up to 250 that also wants reviews, goals and engagement surveys from one vendor.

  • Pricing: Platform fee + per manager. Standard starts at $4,999 and Pro at $11,999 in USD, plus a per-manager monthly charge; above 250 employees it is custom. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Teams under 250 wanting chart plus feedback
  • Strengths: Org chart and people directory; HRIS integrations; Excel upload.

Where it falls short

A buyer who wants a chart alone cannot buy it alone: the pricing page lists the org chart as one item in packaged tiers that start at several thousand dollars. The per-manager charge scales with the management layer.

Wrong for

A company that needs only a chart and directory at low cost. It should compare OrgChart, Miro or a Visio plan before committing to a suite contract.

#6 OrgPlus RealTime

Cloud org charts from Insperity · United States · orgplus.com

Org chart Workforce planning Insperity

OrgPlus RealTime is a long-running chart product sold by Insperity, a company that has run HR services since 1986 by its own account. The site describes cloud charts, a directory view for employees, and metrics layered on the chart: performance rating, compensation, budget and headcount. Managers can model workforce changes before they happen.

  • Pricing: Quote only. No prices published; demo request on the site. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: HR teams wanting chart plus headcount metrics
  • Strengths: Cloud org charts; Employee directory view; Headcount and budget metrics.

Where it falls short

The pages we read are sparse on integrations and publish no price, and the security page names one US data center with no regional choice. It reads as a product inside a larger HR services business, so roadmap and support follow Insperity's priorities.

Wrong for

A European or Asia-Pacific company that needs data hosted in its own region.

Visit OrgPlus RealTime →

#7 Nakisa Org Chart Suite

Enterprise org charts on SAP and Workday data · Canada · nakisa.com

Org chart Enterprise ERP integration

Nakisa positions its Org Chart Suite for large enterprises, and the integration list shows it: SAP HCM, SAP SuccessFactors, Workday and Oracle are named as native sources, so the chart updates itself from systems of record. The security page lists SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II reports, ISO 27001 and 27017, GDPR requirements and single sign-on.

  • Pricing: Quote only. No prices published; sales contact only. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Enterprises on SAP, Workday or Oracle
  • Strengths: Org Chart Suite; SAP HCM and SuccessFactors integration; Workday and Oracle integration.

Where it falls short

The audience is enterprise, and the site reflects that: demo-driven sales, no published price, and a platform wider than a chart. Smaller teams will pay for breadth they do not use, and the buyer's guide pages mainly compare it with other enterprise vendors.

Wrong for

A company with a few hundred people and a single HRIS export.

Visit Nakisa Org Chart Suite →

#8 Miro

Collaborative boards with an org chart maker · United States · miro.com

Whiteboard Org charts Collaboration

Miro's org chart page promises charts that stay current, built from a template or by converting a CSV into cards with automatic layout. Because the chart lives on a shared board, a reorganization workshop can move boxes live with HR, finance and the executives together. The free plan allows three editable boards and paid plans are priced per member, published on the site.

  • Pricing: Per member / month. Free plan with 3 editable boards; Starter $8 and Business $20 per member a month, billed yearly. Free plan: free plan.
  • Best for: Teams mapping structure in workshops
  • Strengths: Org chart templates; CSV import; Auto layout.

Where it falls short

A CSV import is a snapshot. The pages we read show no live link to an HRIS, so the chart ages as soon as someone is hired or leaves. Miro charts also lack a directory or headcount layer, and per-member pricing charges everyone who edits.

Wrong for

An HR team that wants an always-current chart wired to payroll.

#9 SmartDraw

Diagramming with org chart maker · United States · smartdraw.com

Diagramming Org charts Enterprise license

SmartDraw describes itself as privately held and headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, and its navigation lists an organizational chart maker among its diagram types. Data-enabled diagrams are a named feature, and integrations with Microsoft and Google tools are listed. An enterprise license option exists for whole organizations.

  • Pricing: Per user / month. Plans and an enterprise license are listed on its site; amounts were not readable in the pages we fetched. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Teams producing formatted charts
  • Strengths: Organizational chart maker; Data-enabled diagrams; Microsoft integration.

Where it falls short

The navigation lists the organizational chart maker as one diagram type among many, so org charts are a smaller part of the product story. The pricing amounts did not render in the pages we read, and no live HRIS sync is described.

Wrong for

A buyer who wants charts that update from an HRIS without manual work.

Visit SmartDraw →

#10 Lucidchart

Diagramming product from Lucid · United States · lucid.co

Diagramming Collaboration Data linking

Lucid says it was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in Utah, and its Lucidchart pricing page shows a free plan with three editable documents, an Individual tier at 9 euros and a Team tier at 10 euros per user, billed annually. Visio import and export is listed, and so is basic data linking even on the free plan.

  • Pricing: Per user / month. Free plan at 0 euros; Individual 9 euros and Team 10 euros per user a month billed annually; Enterprise by quote. Free plan: free plan.
  • Best for: Teams drawing and sharing charts
  • Strengths: Free plan with 3 documents; Premium shape libraries; Visio import and export.

Where it falls short

The pricing page we read mentions no org chart feature at all, and no HRIS connector; the chart is a diagram someone maintains.

Wrong for

An HR team that needs the chart built and kept current from payroll data.

Visit Lucidchart →

#11 Orgvue

Org design and workforce planning platform · United Kingdom · orgvue.com

Org design Workforce planning Scenario modeling

Orgvue sells organizational design and workforce planning, and it is the least chart-like entry here. Its site describes comparing multiple design scenarios, assessing cost and capability impact, and clustering positions into roles with its Henshaw AI. One case on the site cut role mapping for 8,000 positions from six months to six days. Offices are listed in London, Philadelphia, Toronto, The Hague and Sydney.

  • Pricing: Quote only. No prices published; demo requested through a 30-minute discovery call. Free plan: none.
  • Best for: Enterprises redesigning structure and roles
  • Strengths: Organizational design scenarios; Workforce analytics; Workforce planning.

Where it falls short

The pages we read never present a plain org chart product, and no price is published. Onboarding starts with a discovery call and a tailored demo, which is slow for a small buyer.

Wrong for

An HR generalist at a 200-person company who needs a chart for the intranet.

Visit Orgvue →

What this category is

Org chart software draws and maintains a company's reporting structure as a visual chart, usually built from HR system data rather than drawn by hand. It shows who reports to whom, often with photos, titles, locations and open roles, and offers sharing, a searchable directory and planning views.

How we ranked these

Five tests, applied to every product. The order is not the tests alone: places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them, and the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order.

  • Setup: The first chart from real HR data, and who maps the fields.
  • The real price: Per people charted, per manager, or per editor.
  • Getting your data out: Exports, copies and what stays in the vendor system.
  • Independence from the vendor: Ownership, hosting regions and the HR system underneath.
  • Who org chart software is for: Team size, change rate and reporting complexity.

What the data says about this market

Of the eleven products ranked here, seven are published by US companies: OrgChart, ChartHop, OrgPlus RealTime, Microsoft Visio, Miro, SmartDraw and Lucidchart. Two are Canadian, Nakisa and Workleap, and one each comes from Germany (Ingentis) and the United Kingdom (Orgvue). Five show an amount on their own pages: OrgChart, Workleap, Visio, Miro and Lucidchart. Two of them, Miro and Lucidchart, offer a free plan. The remaining six send buyers to a demo or a form. A buyer comparing the whole group is therefore comparing published diagramming prices on one side and sales conversations on the other.

More in our report The Global Shift to ICT Services, on market data and in all industry reports.

How to choose

  1. Decide where the people list lives. Start with the file the chart will be built from.
  2. Separate the chart from the planning. Decide whether you need a picture, a directory or a planning tool.
  3. Get price, hosting and exit in writing. Ask for a quote that states the counter: employees charted, managers, or editors.

Questions and answers

What is the best org chart software in 2026?

OrgChart ranks first of 11, best for mid-sized HR teams charting 100+ people. ChartHop is second (scaling companies tying chart to planning) and Ingentis third (large employers redesigning structure). Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands, wherever the category has them.

Can org chart software build charts automatically from an HRIS?

Yes, with the dedicated tools. OrgChart names 50+ HR data sources, ChartHop cites 100+ integrations, Workleap connects an HRIS or accepts an Excel file, and Nakisa lists SAP, SuccessFactors, Workday and Oracle.

Is a diagramming tool like Visio or Lucidchart enough for an org chart?

For a small company, yes. Visio Plan 1 starts at $5.00 per user a month and Lucidchart has a free plan.

How is org chart pricing counted?

By employees charted, by managers, or by editors. OrgChart quotes per 100 employees charted, from $105 a month on Core. Workleap lists platform tiers from $4,999 plus a per-manager monthly amount.

What is the difference between an org chart tool and org design software?

An org chart tool draws the structure as it is today. Org design software, such as Orgvue, Ingentis and Nakisa's Org Design Suite, models structures that do not exist yet: scenario costs, role clustering, restructurings and succession.

Did Pingboard become Workleap?

Yes, according to Pingboard's own site, which states that Pingboard is now Workleap and describes the same cloud org chart and employee directory as part of the Workleap employee experience suite.

Which org chart tools publish their prices?

Five of the eleven show amounts on their own pages: OrgChart, Workleap, Microsoft Visio, Miro and Lucidchart. Two of those, Miro and Lucidchart, have a free plan. ChartHop uses a short form to build a proposal.

Where is org chart data stored, and does it matter for GDPR?

Org charts contain names, titles and managers, which are personal data. OrgChart says it hosts on AWS, with GovCloud for government customers. OrgPlus names a Tier IV data center in Bryan, Texas.

Can org chart software show contractors, vacancies and dotted-line managers?

Often, but check it. OrgChart offers position management on its Pro plan, which covers planned and open roles, and the enterprise vendors describe structure modeling. Our pages do not confirm how each tool draws dotted-line managers or contractors.

How long does it take to get a first chart?

For connected tools, the vendors describe days to weeks. ChartHop says most teams see live data in a chart on day one and aims for weeks, not months.

When should a company move from a drawing tool to a dedicated org chart tool?

When the chart is wrong more often than it is right. Signs are several people editing different copies, HR corrections after each payroll run, and managers asking for a directory with photos.
