Visibility in this ranking can be paid for. Payment gives a vendor more visibility, higher up on the review pages; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review. The largest vendors in data observability software

The 13 tools, reviewed
#1 Validio
Real-time data quality with lineage, hosted by you or us · Sweden · validio.io
data quality lineage self-hosted
Validio's pricing page says what most competitors leave to a sales call: the trial is the whole product for 14 days, ten users can log in, and the paid price depends on data assets, segments and deployment, with nothing held back by tier.
- Pricing: Quote only. Free 14-day trial with full features and up to 10 users; afterwards priced on data assets, segments and deployment model, quote only. Free plan: free trial.
- Best for: European teams with compliance duties
- Strengths: Real-time anomaly detection; Data quality monitoring; End-to-end lineage.
Where it falls short
No list price is published, so the cost of 3,000 assets only appears after a quote.
Wrong for
A company that wants a self-service plan with a published monthly price and no sales conversation.
Visit Validio →
#2 Soda
Data contracts and quality checks you keep in YAML · Belgium · soda.io
data contracts checks as code open library
Soda is the product to try if you would rather write checks than click through a wizard.
- Pricing: Free + paid tiers. Free plan at $0 with free Soda Processing Units and unlimited users; Team at $750 per month; Enterprise by quote. Free plan: free plan.
- Best for: Engineers who want checks as code
- Strengths: Data contracts; YAML checks; Schema and freshness checks.
Where it falls short
Soda Data, Inc. in Chicago is also listed as a company address, so the group is no longer purely Belgian. Free-tier limits are counted in processing units, which makes cost hard to predict as scans multiply.
Wrong for
A team that wants lineage-led root cause across BI dashboards in one screen, or an enterprise that needs observability inside a larger governance suite.
Visit Soda →
#3 Sifflet
Observability plus catalog with business-aware lineage · France · siffletdata.com
catalog lineage AI agents
Sifflet's pricing page does something unusual by laying out three tiers around how many assets you monitor, 500, 1,000 or more, and by saying how each is bought, self-serve or marketplace for Entry, sales-assisted for Growth, direct for Enterprise. Lineage is described as business-aware, meaning an incident shows which dashboards and owners sit downstream, and the catalog shares the same screen.
- Pricing: Per asset tiers. Three tiers by assets monitored (up to 500, up to 1,000, then more) with no price figure shown; Snowflake credits accepted. Free plan: none.
- Best for: Mid-sized data teams in Europe
- Strengths: Freshness, schema and volume monitors; Custom metrics; Business-aware lineage.
Where it falls short
No euro or dollar figure is printed, so Entry still needs a conversation. Reviews on the page praise the interface but include remarks such as very useful but not plug and play.
Wrong for
A team that wants checks written and versioned in code, where Soda is the closer match.

#4 Ataccama ONE
Observability as one module of a quality platform · Czech Republic · ataccama.com
data quality MDM enterprise
Within this ranking Ataccama is the answer for a company whose real issue is wrong values, not late tables. The observability module monitors critical sources and sends alerts with context, while quality rules, reference data, lineage and mastering sit on the same platform, so a failed check can lead to a correction instead of a ticket.
- Pricing: Quote only. Quote on request; tiers set by named users, data objects and active quality configurations, with unlimited read-only consumers. Free plan: none.
- Best for: Enterprises already fixing data quality
- Strengths: Data observability module; Automated anomaly detection; Data quality rules.
Where it falls short
Observability is one module among many, so a team that only wants alerts on late pipelines will find the platform heavy and the implementation long. No price is published.
Wrong for
A five-person analytics team on dbt and Snowflake that needs monitoring running this week.

#5 Lightup
Indicator-based quality monitoring with AI anomaly detection · United States · lightup.ai
data quality anomaly detection agents
Lightup is unusually clear about its own limits. The plan table lists ten users and two workspaces for Cloud, retention of 30 days against six months or more for Enterprise, and which warehouses are supported: Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Postgres, Athena and Databricks, with Databricks partial on Cloud.
- Pricing: Quote only. Two annual plans, Cloud and Enterprise, both by quote; Cloud covers 10 users and 2 workspaces with 30 days of retention. Free plan: free trial.
- Best for: Teams that want stated plan limits
- Strengths: Data quality indicators; AI anomaly detection; Sliced metrics.
Where it falls short
Everything is an annual subscription by quote, with no monthly option. A 30-day retention window on Cloud limits how far back an incident review can reach, and role-based access control is described as limited there.
Wrong for
A European buyer who needs a local contracting entity and published prices, or a team that wants a built-in catalog on the same screen.
Visit Lightup →
#6 Telmai
Lake and lakehouse data validation with reliability agents · United States · telm.ai
lakehouse unstructured agents
Telmai concentrates on data as it lands in a lake or lakehouse rather than on the warehouse alone, validating structured, semi-structured and unstructured files continuously and writing quality metadata that catalogs and AI agents can read. Its reliability agents let business users set up monitors in plain English and explain anomalies back.
- Pricing: Quote only. No price published; demo and a waitlist for the agent features. Free plan: none.
- Best for: Lakehouse teams on open formats
- Strengths: Data lake validation; Anomaly detection; Data layer consistency.
Where it falls short
The site shows the agent features behind a waitlist and no pricing or trial, so evaluation means a demo call.
Wrong for
A dbt-and-warehouse shop whose problems are late models and broken joins, or any buyer who wants a self-serve trial before talking to sales.
Visit Telmai →
#7 Qualytics
Rules inferred by AI and applied at the point of use · United States · qualytics.ai
augmented quality rule inference controls
Qualytics starts by profiling your sources, learning patterns, relationships and expected structures, and then generating and maintaining quality rules itself, which cuts the weeks usually spent writing checks. Teams can then steer it with business context through a low-code interface or through AgentQ in plain language.
- Pricing: Quote only. No price published; free trial and demo offered on the site. Free plan: free trial.
- Best for: Teams drowning in hand-written rules
- Strengths: AI-inferred quality rules; Profiling; Anomaly investigation.
Where it falls short
Rules inferred by software are only as good as the review they get, and a team that skips it can end up with hundreds of checks nobody understands.
Wrong for
An organization that wants pipeline-run monitoring across Airflow and dbt jobs, or one that wants rules fully defined by engineers in code.
Visit Qualytics →
#8 Anomalo
ML anomaly detection across structured and unstructured data · United States · anomalo.com
machine learning unstructured data agents
Anomalo's argument is that hand-written rules are brittle, so a model should learn each table and flag deviations without configuration. The product also checks unstructured content such as documents and now presents a suite of nine agents, among them a table observability agent that watches availability, freshness and schema, and a data quality agent that takes rules in natural language.
- Pricing: Quote only. No price published; demo only. Free plan: none.
- Best for: Large tables where rules cannot keep up
- Strengths: Anomaly detection; Data validation; Table observability.
Where it falls short
The site shows no trial and no published price, so a demo request is the visible route in. Agent descriptions on the site are heavy with claims about hours saved that no one outside the vendor can check.
Wrong for
A company that wants to test before buying or needs EU-based contracting.
Visit Anomalo →
#9 Bigeye
Observability, lineage and sensitive-data scanning in one platform · United States · bigeye.com
lineage sensitive data AI trust
Bigeye's homepage now calls it an enterprise AI trust platform made of modules for metadata, lineage, observability, sensitivity scanning, governance and an AI Guardian that enforces access policy at runtime. The monitoring core remains: anomaly detection, cost anomaly detection and monitoring as code with developer tools and an MCP server.
- Pricing: Quote only. No price published; demo request only. Free plan: none.
- Best for: Enterprises tying data quality to AI policy
- Strengths: Data observability; Anomaly detection; Cost anomaly detection.
Where it falls short
The company has widened its scope, and the pricing page now redirects to a demo request. A team that wants only freshness and volume alerts pays attention to modules it will not use.
Wrong for
A small team looking for a cheap, quick pilot, or a European buyer insisting on a local entity.
Visit Bigeye →
#10 Acceldata
Data reliability plus cost control for large data estates · United States · acceldata.io
reliability FinOps big data
Acceldata splits its Data Observability Cloud into data reliability and cost optimization, and that split is useful. Pro reliability covers anomaly detection, profiling, freshness, schema drift and rule-based policies; Enterprise adds reconciliation, pipeline monitoring, an SDK and geographic data centers. The cost side tracks spend and, at Enterprise, supports chargeback and showback. A separate line serves Hadoop and big-data estates.
- Pricing: Quote only. Pro and Enterprise tiers for data reliability by contact; Pro cost optimization has a free trial; a 30-day trial is advertised. Free plan: free trial.
- Best for: Big-data estates with cost pressure
- Strengths: Anomaly detection; Profiling; Freshness and schema drift.
Where it falls short
The homepage now leads with agentic data engineering, a runtime for agents and a warehouse offering, so the observability product competes for attention inside a sprawling portfolio.
Wrong for
A startup with one Snowflake account and a few hundred tables that wants to be up in an afternoon.
Visit Acceldata →
#11 Metaplane
Fast-start monitoring for dbt-and-warehouse teams, now part of Datadog · United States · metaplane.dev
dbt column lineage Datadog
Metaplane is the quickest route from nothing to working monitors: sign up, connect a warehouse, and the Free plan covers ten monitored tables for four users. Pro bills per monitored table, with 12 users, unlimited viewers, column-level lineage, data CI/CD in pull requests and cost monitoring, and Snowflake credits can pay for it.
- Pricing: Per monitored table. Free plan with 10 monitored tables and 4 users; Pro usage-based per monitored table; Enterprise by contact. Free plan: free plan.
- Best for: Small teams starting at zero cost
- Strengths: Table monitoring; Automated anomaly detection; Schema change alerts.
Where it falls short
Ownership has changed, and independence is exactly what you give up. Free is limited to ten tables, so any real warehouse will hit the ceiling immediately, and per-table billing grows quickly at several thousand tables.
Wrong for
A buyer who wants a vendor independent of any observability suite, or an organization with on-premise sources and mainframes.
Visit Metaplane →
#12 Collibra Data Quality and Observability
Quality scores wired into governance and data products · Belgium · collibra.com
governance quality scores enterprise
Collibra's quality and observability product profiles data, runs automated and custom monitors, and then ties each result to the policy, critical data element or data product it affects. Scores appear in the data marketplace where business users search, and issues route to owners through workflows in Collibra or in Jira and ServiceNow.
- Pricing: Quote only. Quote only; no published tiers. Free plan: none.
- Best for: Regulated firms already on Collibra
- Strengths: Automated and custom monitors; Detailed profiling; Reusable rule templates.
Where it falls short
The page presents it as one capability of the Collibra platform, so buying only the observability piece looks awkward. Implementation involves a governance operating model, not just connectors.
Wrong for
A data team of ten that wants alerts on freshness and volume this month.
Visit Collibra Data Quality and Observability →
#13 Monte Carlo
Incident workflow and agent observability on a credit model · United States · montecarlo.ai
incumbent incidents agents
Monte Carlo is the vendor others in this category benchmark themselves against, and its pricing page shows why large estates choose it. Four tiers run from Start, with up to ten users, per-monitor pricing up to 1,000 monitors and 10,000 API calls a day, to Business Critical with a dedicated instance and cross-region disaster recovery.
- Pricing: Usage-based. Credit-based; four tiers (Start, Scale, Enterprise, Business Critical) with pricing on request. Free plan: none.
- Best for: Large estates with many data owners
- Strengths: Data observability; Incident triage and root cause; Lineage.
Where it falls short
Credits and consumption rates make the final bill hard to forecast, and no price is published. The product has grown from data tables into agent and ML observability, which a pure data team may not need.
Wrong for
A team of five with a single warehouse and a tight budget.

Questions and answers
What is the best data observability software in 2026?
Validio ranks first of 13, best for european teams with compliance duties. Soda is second (engineers who want checks as code) and Sifflet third (mid-sized data teams in Europe). Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands, wherever the category has them.
What is the difference between data observability and data quality testing?
Testing checks rules you wrote, such as a column never being null. Observability watches for what you did not think to write: a load that arrives late, a row count that halves, a distribution that drifts.
Do I need data observability if I already run dbt tests?
dbt tests catch what you assert at build time, and they run only when a job runs. They do not notice that the upstream Stripe load never arrived, or that a table is correct but empty.
How much does data observability software cost?
Only Soda prints a flat price among the thirteen: free, then $750 a month for Team.
Which data observability tools can be hosted in my own cloud?
Validio states a fully self-hosted option in the customer's VPC. Sifflet lists SaaS, hybrid and self-hosted deployment for Enterprise, Lightup offers hybrid on its Enterprise plan, Soda documents a self-hosted runner, and Monte Carlo's Scale tier mentions self-hosted storage.
Is there a free data observability tool?
Two products in this ranking have a free plan: Soda, with free processing units and unlimited users, and Metaplane, limited to 10 monitored tables and 4 users.
What happens to Metaplane, Elementary and Synq now that they were acquired?
Metaplane's own pages say Metaplane by Datadog, and its terms point to Datadog's master subscription agreement. Elementary's site says it is joining Boomi, and Synq's says it is now part of Coalesce.
Can data observability monitor streaming data and lakes, or only warehouses?
Several can. Validio validates Kafka and Pub/Sub streams, Telmai works on data landing in lakes and lakehouses, Acceldata covers Hadoop and big-data estates, and Lightup lists Athena and Databricks. Metaplane and Sifflet concentrate on warehouses, transformation tools and BI.
How do I stop alert fatigue in the first month?
Start with the tables behind your top five dashboards, not the entire warehouse.
Does the EU AI Act change how I should choose?
The Act asks high-risk AI systems to rely on data governance and data quality practices, so evidence of monitoring helps. Validio mentions the EU AI Act and BCBS 239 on its pages, and Bigeye names the Act and ISO 42001.
How long does a trial or pilot need to be?
Plan for two to four weeks. Week one is connecting the warehouse and muting noise, week two is watching whether monitors catch real incidents, and the rest is testing alert routing, export and permissions.
