Datadog alternatives: 13 compared

Teams look past Datadog when the bill is the sum of many per-host and per-volume meters, when a renewal can add up to 9 percent or more, or when they want open source or one flat rate per gigabyte. They go to SigNoz, Grafana and Coralogix for cost control, and to New Relic or Dynatrace for another full suite.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Datadog in our observability and log management software ranking are SigNoz, Coralogix and Middleware. Choose SigNoz if you want open source and one published per-GB price instead of host meters. All 13 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Observability & Log Management Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Datadog and when Datadog is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Datadog at a glance

  • Headquarters: United States
  • Pricing model: Per host + per volume, by product
  • Pricing: Infrastructure Monitoring has a Free plan (up to 5 hosts, 1 day of metric retention), Pro from $15 per host per month on annual billing ($18 on demand) and Enterprise from $23 ($27 on demand). APM Pro starts at $35 and APM Enterprise at $40 per host per month on annual billing. Log ingest starts at $0.10 per GB, with indexing and Flex Logs storage billed separately.
  • Free option: Free plan
  • Built for: Teams that want one vendor for infrastructure, APM, logs and security
  • Wrong for: A team with a handful of services that needs dashboards and uptime alerts does not need a catalogue of this size, and will find the per-product meters harder to forecast than a flat or per-GB price.
  • Place in our ranking: #18 of 18

Why buyers look past Datadog

  1. Many meters, one invoice

Datadog sells infrastructure, APM, logs, browser monitoring and security as separate products. Infrastructure Pro is $15 per host a month on annual billing, APM Pro starts at $35 per host, and log ingest starts at $0.10 per GB with indexing billed separately. Each product you switch on adds a meter.

  2. Renewal pricing is written into the contract

The master subscription agreement lets Datadog raise the price at auto-renewal by up to the greater of 9 percent or the US consumer price index change. Orders renew for the same term unless you act at least 15 days before expiry. Buyers who notice this late often start comparing.

  3. No self-hosted edition

Datadog is a hosted service operated from New York. Its pricing page lists no edition you can run on your own servers, and the Agent sends data to Datadog. Teams that need telemetry kept in their own cloud account or on open source software must look elsewhere.

8. Dynatrace

Automatic dependency mapping and a unified data lakehouse · United States

Dynatrace draws down an annual commitment at rate-card prices, such as $58 a month per 8 GiB host for Full-Stack Monitoring. A single agent maps dependencies automatically. It is another full suite sold on a commitment, so it changes how you are billed more than whether you are billed.

Switch from Datadog if you want another full platform with automatic dependency mapping and accept a commitment.

Pricing: An annual platform commitment drawn down at published rate-card prices, such as $58/month per 8 GiB host for Full-Stack Monitoring, $29/month per host for Infrastructure Monitoring and $0.20 per GiB of logs ingested; the total resists forecasting before a trial with real traffic. (free trial)

Elastic Cloud Serverless bills observability per GB ingested, from as low as $0.07, and per GB retained each month, from as low as $0.017, with 50 GB of egress free. Elasticsearch search sits underneath. A self-managed route exists, but you then run clusters and upgrades yourself.

Switch from Datadog if you want search-based log analytics billed per GB ingested and retained.

Pricing: Elastic Cloud Serverless bills observability per GB ingested and per GB retained, at published rates; Elastic Cloud Hosted bills by provisioned resources, and self-managed paid subscriptions are licensed by node count and RAM. When Datadog is still the right choice

Datadog is still the right choice when the estate is large and varied enough that one agent and one set of dashboards across infrastructure, APM, logs, browser monitoring and security saves more engineering time than the invoice costs. It is also right where you already hold a negotiated commitment, depend on its integrations catalogue, or want security and observability in one product.

What to expect when you switch from Datadog

  1. Re-instrument, do not just re-point

Datadog documents OpenTelemetry ingest through its Agent and collector, so services already instrumented with OpenTelemetry can send to another backend by changing the exporter. Services instrumented with the Datadog libraries need new instrumentation. Plan the time per service, not per host.

  2. Dashboards and monitors are the real work

Several alternatives, SigNoz and Better Stack among them, list tools to import Datadog dashboards, but alert rules, SLOs and notebooks are usually rebuilt by hand. Count your monitors before you choose, and run both tools in parallel until the new alerts fire correctly.

  3. Mind the contract dates

Orders auto-renew for the same term, and the non-renewal request is due at least 15 days before expiry. Moving mid-term does not cancel committed spend, so start the evaluation several months before the renewal date and ask for the renewal notice email.

Questions and answers

Can I export my dashboards and monitors from Datadog?

Yes, the Datadog API exposes dashboards, and its documentation also lists export for several data types. We did not find a one-click export into another vendor's format, so expect to rebuild alerts and notebooks by hand.

Does the Datadog Agent work with other backends?

No, the Datadog Agent sends data to Datadog. Services instrumented with OpenTelemetry can send OTLP data to a different backend, such as Honeycomb, Grafana Cloud or SigNoz, by changing the exporter endpoint.

How much can Datadog raise the price at renewal?

For orders of 12 months or longer, the agreement allows an increase of up to the greater of 9 percent or the US consumer price index change over the prior period. Credits and promotional pricing do not carry into a renewal term.

When do I have to give notice that I am leaving?

A non-renewal request must reach your Customer Success Manager at least 15 days before the term ends, per the master subscription agreement. Datadog also sends a renewal email about 30 days before a 12-month or longer term starts again.

Is there a free option if I only need a few servers?

Datadog's Infrastructure Monitoring has a Free plan for up to 5 hosts with one-day metric retention. Alternatives such as Grafana Cloud, New Relic, Honeycomb and Middleware also publish free tiers, with different limits.

Which alternative has the closest feature range to Datadog?

New Relic and Dynatrace are the nearest full-suite alternatives in this list, covering APM, infrastructure, logs and browser monitoring. Neither is cheaper by default, since both bill by consumption, so compare a month of your real data volume.
