BambooHR alternatives: 11 compared

Companies look past BambooHR when payroll and benefits must cover more than US employees, when modules they need sit on the higher tiers, or when a subscription term locks them in. Most move to Rippling or Gusto if they are US-based and want payroll in the same system, or to HiBob and Factorial for multi-country teams.

Short answer: The closest replacements for BambooHR in our HR software ranking are Rippling, Gusto and HiBob. Choose Rippling if you want HR, payroll and IT managed together and accept a quoted price. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best HR Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from BambooHR and when BambooHR is still the better choice.

Why buyers look past BambooHR

  1. Payroll and benefits stop at the US border

The BambooHR pricing page marks Payroll and Benefits Administration as US employees only. A company with staff in several countries still needs a second system for pay, or an add-on such as Global Employment, which is powered by Remote.

  2. The useful modules sit higher up

Core lists 5 job openings, Pro 25 and Elite 50. Performance cycles and 360 feedback begin on Pro, while compensation planning, dashboards and benchmarks are Elite. A growing team often pays for a tier mostly to unlock one module.

  3. Extended terms are hard to leave

Under the Terms of Service an extended-term subscription is non-cancelable until the end of the term, renews for twelve months, and needs 60 days' notice to stop. Month-to-month is the exception, and buyers who signed a longer term compare options before renewal.

What each alternative does differently

1. Rippling

HRIS at the center of a combined HR, IT and finance platform · United States

Sold as a custom quote after you say which services you need, not as three fixed tiers. HR, IT and payroll are chosen as separate products on one platform. That suits a company that wants more than HR, but you cannot read a price off the website.

Switch from BambooHR if you want HR, payroll and IT managed together and accept a quoted price.

Pricing: Quote-based; the core platform is priced per employee, with each module added on top. (none)

Full review: #2 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Rippling →

2. Gusto

HR tools included with Gusto's small-business payroll · United States

Payroll comes first. The pricing page lists plans around payroll features such as tax filings and direct deposit, states no contracts and cancellation at any time. It is a US-oriented option and fits small employers more than teams wanting deep performance or compensation tooling.

Switch from BambooHR if you are a US employer and payroll matters more than HR depth, with no long contract.

Pricing: Included in Gusto's payroll plans; higher tiers add performance reviews, surveys and HR advisory access. (none)

Full review: #3 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Gusto →

3. HiBob

Mid-market HR platform for multi-country companies · United Kingdom

Built around modules you pick: the demo form lists Core, Compensation, Hiring, Learning, Payroll, Time and Attendance, Workforce Planning and more. Pricing is not published on the page we could read, so the real cost is only known after a sales call.

Switch from BambooHR if you run a growing, multi-country team and want to pick modules one by one.

Pricing: Quote-based per-employee pricing, with core HR and modules such as performance, compensation and payroll packaged separately. (none)

Full review: #4 of 14 in our ranking · Visit HiBob →

4. Factorial

Low-cost all-in-one HR for small European businesses · Spain

States a starting price of $8 per user per month, then tailors the plan after a sales request. It covers time, talent, payroll, IT and finance products, so it reaches beyond HR records into device and expense management, which BambooHR does not list.

Switch from BambooHR if you want one vendor for HR, payroll, IT and expenses at a low starting price.

Pricing: Published starting price of $8 per user per month; the actual plan is tailored by sales from the modules you pick. (free trial)

Full review: #8 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Factorial →

5. Employment Hero

HR, payroll and hiring platform from Australia · Australia

Publishes HR tiers per user, with HR Essentials from $10 and HR Engage from $14, plus a custom HR Elite. Each needs at least 10 users. Rostering, time and managed payroll are separate paid add-ons.

Switch from BambooHR if you employ shift-based staff and want rostering and time tracking beside HR.

Pricing: Published per-employee monthly HR tiers with a 10-user minimum, add-ons such as rostering and managed payroll priced per employee, and the top plans quoted; figures differ by country. (none)

Full review: #14 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Employment Hero →

6. Humaans

API-first HRIS for technology companies · United Kingdom

Two published plan names, Growth and Enterprise, with pricing by quote. Okta and Entra ID integrations, SAML single sign-on and webhooks are Enterprise only, while Growth keeps API access. It is a lean system of record, not a payroll suite.

Switch from BambooHR if you want a light HR system of record with strong integrations and single sign-on.

Pricing: Quote-based pricing across Growth and Enterprise plans; performance reviews, headcount and compensation planning and the AI companion are paid add-ons. (free trial)

Full review: #11 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Humaans →

7. Zoho People

Low-cost HR and attendance system from Zoho · India

One part of the wider Zoho family, with separate modules for recruitment, onboarding, time and attendance, document management, an HR help desk and performance with learning. Zoho offers a free trial. Teams outside the Zoho ecosystem get less from the connected apps.

Switch from BambooHR if you already run other Zoho products and want a modular HR add-on.

Pricing: Free plan for up to five users; paid tiers above that have a five-user minimum, with HR help desk on the top tier. (free plan)

Full review: #9 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Zoho People →

8. Namely

Mid-market HCM with managed payroll and benefits services · United States

Pairs a core HR platform with managed services, including managed HR, managed payroll and managed benefits. Applicant tracking, performance and benefits administration are enhanced modules. The managed route suits companies without an HR team, at the cost of paying for the service.

Switch from BambooHR if you have no in-house HR team and want someone to run payroll and benefits for you.

Pricing: Namely Now starts at $9 per employee per month; the Plus, Plus People and Complete packages, which add recruiting, performance, benefits and managed services, are quoted. (none)

Full review: #7 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Namely →

9. Breathe

Band-priced HR records and absence tool for UK small firms · United Kingdom

Aimed at UK small businesses of 1 to 250 employees. The product lists absence, rotas, time tracking, expenses and a Xero payroll integration, with a free trial. It does not run payroll itself, and it is not built for multi-country firms.

Switch from BambooHR if you are a UK business under 250 people and use Xero for payroll.

Pricing: Published monthly prices by headcount band rather than per head, from a micro band of up to 10 people to a top band of 151-200, cheaper on annual billing; rota, expenses, recruitment and learning are paid add-ons. (free trial)

Full review: #13 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Breathe →

10. Deel HR

Low-cost global HRIS from the Deel employment platform · United States

Deel's pricing page is built around employing people abroad: $599 per employer-of-record employee per month and $125 per US PEO employee. HR is one product beside payroll, benefits and IT. It fits companies hiring across borders more than a single-country HR file.

Switch from BambooHR if you hire across borders and want employer-of-record and payroll in the same system.

Pricing: Published per-employee tiers: Core from $5, Advanced $19 and Elite $29 per month; recruiting, payroll and employer-of-record services are charged separately. (none)

Full review: #10 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Deel HR →

11. Workday HCM

Enterprise HCM suite for large, complex organizations · United States

Sold as separate products: Core HCM, Talent Management, Global Payroll, Workforce Management and HR Analytics, all through Workday sales. It targets large organizations with complex structures. A 30-person company would find it far heavier than BambooHR to configure.

Switch from BambooHR if you have outgrown a mid-market tool and need enterprise-scale HR and global payroll.

Pricing: Quote-only subscription based on employee count and modules, plus partner-led implementation costs. (none)

Full review: #12 of 14 in our ranking · Visit Workday HCM →

When BambooHR is still the right choice

BambooHR remains the right choice for a US-based company that wants HR records, applicant tracking, time off and, if needed, US payroll and benefits in one place. Published per-employee pricing and a month-to-month option make it easy to compare. It stops fitting when pay and benefits must cover staff outside the US.

What to expect when you switch from BambooHR

  1. Download your data inside 30 days

The Terms of Service say customers can download their data for thirty days after expiration or termination. After that BambooHR has no duty to keep it. Run exports and reports before you cancel, not after.

  2. Check the term before you give notice

Month-to-month plans can be ended at any time, effective at the end of that month. Extended terms renew for twelve months and need 60 days' notice, so the date you tell BambooHR matters more than the date you switch.

  3. Plan around payroll history

If you use BambooHR Payroll, the terms allow BambooHR to keep payroll data for seven years for legal and tax reasons. Keep your own copies of year-end reports so the new system has an opening balance.

Questions and answers

Can I export my data from BambooHR?

Yes, customers can download their data, and the terms allow it for thirty days after a subscription ends. The BambooHR developer documentation also describes an open API that can generate reports in several formats.

How much notice do I need to give BambooHR?

It depends on the term. Month-to-month subscriptions can be terminated at any time, ending on the last day of that month. Extended-term subscriptions need at least 60 days' notice before renewal, or they renew for twelve months.

What does BambooHR cost per employee?

Above 25 employees the pricing page lists Core at $10.25, Pro at $17.50 and Elite at $25 per employee per month, with automatic volume discounts. At 25 or fewer it charges a flat $250, $425 or $650 a month.

Does BambooHR payroll work outside the US?

No, the pricing page marks Payroll and Benefits Administration as US employees only. Global Employment, powered by Remote, is a separate add-on for hiring workers abroad.

Will my integrations still work after I switch?

Not automatically. BambooHR lists over 150 integration partners in its marketplace, and each connection is tied to BambooHR. Check each tool you use against the new vendor's integration list before you cancel.

Is there a discount for nonprofits?

Yes, the pricing page lists an additional 15% off for registered nonprofit organizations, and a 15% bundle discount for Payroll and Benefits with any plan, currently for US-based employees. Ask any alternative whether it matches that.
