Keeper and Bitwarden both serve technical and compliance-minded buyers, but they charge differently for it. Keeper has the larger set of admin controls and compliance reporting, much of it sold as add-ons on annual contracts. Bitwarden includes less reporting, costs far less per seat and can be self-hosted. Regulated firms and MSPs lean Keeper; cost-conscious teams lean Bitwarden.

Choose Keeper if
you answer to an examiner or sell to US government, need delegated admin roles and per-record compliance reports, or run an MSP with a vault per client.

Where they differ
Depth of roles and enforcement
Keeper's console has roles with delegated admin rights, dozens of enforcement policies per role, alerts on specific events and a compliance module showing who can see which record. Bitwarden has detailed Enterprise event logs and group-mapped collections, but plain admin reporting. Keeper's depth has a cost: some policies interact unexpectedly, and misconfiguration is common in the first month.

What the full invoice looks like
Keeper's business plans are annual only, and advanced reporting, breach monitoring, compliance reports and the connection manager are each sold separately, with sales reps pushing bundles. A fully equipped Keeper deployment can land well above Bitwarden's bill. Bitwarden publishes per-user tiers billed monthly or annually and prices low enough to cover every employee.

Open code and running it yourself
Bitwarden's code is public and audited every year with the reports published, and the whole vault can move to a self-hosted server. That is an exit plan most vendors do not sell. Keeper's entry in our data describes no self-hosted option or open code, so we cannot credit it here. On independence from the vendor, Bitwarden has the documented advantage.

Service providers and government work
Keeper has an MSP console that is mature and widely used by service providers, and its FedRAMP and StateRAMP authorizations make it the straightforward choice for firms selling to US government. Bitwarden's data lists neither an MSP console nor those authorizations. For these two specific buyers, Keeper is the product built with them in mind.

When neither fits
If the real problem is office staff who will not adopt a tool with a busy or clunky interface, both will struggle: Keeper feels crowded and Bitwarden functional. Dashlane gets the easiest adoption among non-technical teams, and Proton Pass suits a small office wanting simple shared logins.

Questions and answers
Is Keeper worth the extra cost over Bitwarden?
Only if you will use the depth. Granular role policies, compliance reports, BreachWatch monitoring and the MSP console justify the price for regulated firms and service providers. A company that mainly needs shared logins and provisioning gets that from Bitwarden at a lower cost per seat.
Do Keeper and Bitwarden both handle engineering secrets?
Yes. Each lists a Secrets Manager. Bitwarden adds a command-line client and sells its Secrets Manager separately at modest cost. Keeper adds a connection manager and privileged access add-ons, which are priced on top of the business plan. Compare the add-on quote against Bitwarden's before deciding.
Which is easier to configure, Keeper or Bitwarden?
Neither is effortless. Keeper exposes so many policies that early misconfiguration is common. Bitwarden is simpler on policy, but SSO unlock requires trusted-device setup or a self-hosted key connector, which confuses smaller IT teams. Budget setup time for either one.
