Teams look past Wistia when the jump from the Business plan to the Signals tier is hard to justify, when seats are added one by one, or when they need live streaming, paywalls or an API-first service rather than a marketing video page. Most go to Vimeo for a like-for-like subscription, or to usage-based services such as Bunny Stream and Mux.
Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within
the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives
go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the
established names follow in their ranked order. How it works:
placement disclosure · editorial process.
What each alternative does differently
1. Dacast
Mid-market live and VOD hosting with a built-in paywall · United States
Built around live streaming and video on demand with RTMP and HLS channels, plus paywall and advertising monetisation. Plans are sold with fixed storage and bandwidth allowances and overage charges. It has no marketing-automation layer comparable to Wistia's Signals suite, so lead scoring would stay in your CRM.
Switch from Wistia if you need live events and paid video access more than lead capture.
Pricing: Billed annually: Starter $39/month (500GB storage, 2.4TB bandwidth a year, 3 team members, paywall and ads as add-ons); Event $63/month (250GB storage, 6TB bandwidth upfront, 5 team members); Scale $165/month (2TB storage, 24TB bandwidth a year, DRM and AES, 10 team members); Custom for enterprise. Overages $0.30/GB bandwidth, $0.15/GB storage. 14-day free trial. (free trial)

French all-in-one video platform, API-first, pay-as-you-go · France

Switch from Wistia if you want one library for hosting, subtitles and branded channels, billed by use.
Pricing: Pay-as-you-go credits: €5 free at signup plus €5 free every month (non-cumulative). Then video storage €0.20/hour, file storage €0.05/GB, AI subtitles €0.10/minute, bandwidth €0.02/GB (1TB free/month). 3. Bunny Stream
Low-cost usage-based video hosting from Slovenia · Slovenia
Infrastructure with a customizable player, multi-DRM, hotlinking protection and token authentication. You pay for storage and delivery as you use them, and there is a 14-day trial. It has no forms, CTAs or CRM sync, so marketing features need your own front end.
Switch from Wistia if you mainly need cheap, protected delivery and can build the surrounding pages yourself.
Pricing: Encoding free; storage from $0.01/GB; CDN delivery from $0.005/GB; $1 monthly minimum. 14-day free trial with no credit card, and a pricing calculator for estimating monthly cost against real volume. (free trial)

Switch from Wistia if your engineers will build video into your product and want metered billing.

6. Mux
Developer-focused video API, metered by four units · United States

7. PeerTube
Federated, open-source video hosting from a French non-profit · France
Free and open-source software under a free licence that you install on your own server. It federates over ActivityPub and has no advertising or tracking. Hosting, upgrades, storage and moderation are yours to run, and it offers no marketing integrations at all.
Switch from Wistia if you want to own the stack, avoid vendor lock-in and have people to run a server.
Pricing: Free and open source. Running your own instance costs whatever server it runs on; joining an existing instance may be free or donation-funded depending on that instance's own policy. (open source)

8. YouTube
Free, ad-supported hosting built for reach, not a brandable deployment · United States
Free to upload and built for reach and discovery rather than controlled embedding. Monetisation runs through the Partner Program, and analytics sit in YouTube Studio. You do not get a branded, form-driven player, and the platform's own recommendations sit around your viewers.
Switch from Wistia if your goal is audience reach and search visibility, and branding of the player matters less.
Pricing: Free to upload and host; monetisation through advertising or a separate YouTube Premium subscription for viewers. (free plan)

10. Brightcove
Enterprise video delivery and monetisation platform · United States
An enterprise platform covering video hosting, live streaming and content monetisation, with a marketing product line alongside. Switch from Wistia if you are a large organisation that needs monetisation and live streaming under one contract.
Pricing: Not publicly published; quoted per organisation. (none)

11. JWX (formerly JW Player)
Established video platform, now JWX after the Connatix merger · United States
Now trading as JWX, positioned around video technology and monetisation for streamers, publishers and advertisers. Its strength is advertising and publisher workflows, not lead capture. Editions are sold through its sales team, so it fits media companies better than a marketing department.
Switch from Wistia if you publish video as a media business and earn from advertising.
Pricing: No published prices. The pricing page lists three editions, Express, Publishing and Broadcasting, sized by hours managed (up to 1,600) or ad revenue share, with a contact-sales button; the old JW Player pricing URL redirects there through jwpconnatix.com. (none)

12. Kaltura
Enterprise video platform for large organisations, quoted pricing · United States
