Teams look past Vanta when the quote grows with every framework and add-on, when the one-year auto-renewal makes a mid-term switch costly, or when EU rules such as NIS2 and TISAX matter more than SOC 2. Most go to Drata, Secureframe or Strike Graph for the same US-style program, or to Cyberday and Secfix for European frameworks.
Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. The first three alternatives
go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the
established names follow in their ranked order. How it works:
placement disclosure · editorial process.
What each alternative does differently
Foundation covers up to 50 full-time employees and one pre-mapped framework from SOC 2, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials, HIPAA or GDPR. Compliance as code and open API access are included from that tier, and DORA sits in the library. Prices are shown only after a demo, as at Vanta.
Switch from Vanta if you want the same US-style platform with API-first control and a lower entry tier.

2. Secureframe
United States
Three packages, Fundamentals, Complete and Defense, each with one framework and further frameworks sold as quantities. Complete adds third-party risk, questionnaire automation, SSO and SCIM. Defense carries CMMC tooling such as an SPRS tracker and a managed CUI enclave, which Vanta's pricing page does not list.
Switch from Vanta if you sell into the US defense chain or want packages that scale by framework count.

United States
Prints starting figures: Scale from $21,500 a year and Enterprise from $35,000, with a free trial offered. Every tier includes unlimited risks, controls and evidence and a full audit workbook export, and the page lists more than 50 cloud integrations, far fewer than Vanta's 400.
Switch from Vanta if you want published entry prices and a complete audit workbook export.

4. Thoropass
United States
One quote covers software and audit delivery, and its privacy page lists a licensed CPA firm, Thoropass Assurance, among its entities. The service list includes SOC 1 and 2, HITRUST, PCI DSS, CMMC Level 1 and CREST-accredited pentesting. Buyers must weigh the independence of a bundled auditor.
Switch from Vanta if you want one contract for software and the audit, accepting a bundled auditor.

6. Scrut Automation
United States
Lists 70-plus frameworks, 150-plus integrations and three agents, Evidence Collector, Internal Auditor and Risk Analyst, plus an MCP server. A product tour is offered without a sales call, which Vanta's demo-first page does not. Pricing stays quote only, and the US entity has an Indian parent.
Switch from Vanta if you run two or three frameworks at once and want a tour before talking to sales.

Questions and answers
How much notice does Vanta need to cancel?
At least 30 days before the end of the current Service Period under the Master Subscription Agreement. Without notice, the subscription renews for another one-year period. Check your Order Form, since it may state different terms, and note that reseller purchases follow the reseller's agreement.
Do I get a refund if I leave mid-term?
Generally no. The agreement says fees are non-refundable and payment obligations non-cancelable, except for a pro-rata refund of prepaid unused fees if you terminate for Vanta's uncured material breach. Time a move to the end of the period.
Can Vanta raise the price at renewal?
Yes. The agreement lets Vanta change prices, effective at the start of your next Service Period, with reasonable notice before the current one ends. Ask for the renewal quote early enough to still give the 30 days' notice if it is too high.
What happens to my data when I leave?
Access is removed when the Order Form ends, and the DPA says Vanta returns or deletes personal data at your choice after the services end. The agreement we read describes no export format, so test a full export of one framework while you still have access.
Can I keep my auditor when I switch platforms?
Usually yes. Vanta's pricing page says you can bring your own auditor, so the auditor is not tied to the platform. Confirm that the new vendor supports the evidence format your auditor accepts, and warn the firm before the evidence moves.
Does Vanta have a free plan or trial I can fall back on?
Its pricing page shows no free plan and asks for a demo to get pricing. The terms mention trial services at Vanta's discretion, and trial data may be deleted after the trial ends unless you buy.
