Buyers look past Tidio when the bill follows conversation volume, when AI and automation are metered separately, or when they want per-seat or flat pricing they can forecast. Most move to LiveChat, Crisp or Freshchat, or to a free option such as tawk.to or Chatwoot.

Questions and answers
Does Tidio have a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan costs $0 and covers 50 billable conversations a month, with a 7-day trial of all features first. After the trial the account drops to Free unless you upgrade, so a lapsed trial does not end in a bill.
What counts as a billable conversation at Tidio?
A chat, ticket, email or social conversation that includes a message from a human agent. Replies from Flows and the Lyro AI agent do not count, and unanswered visitor messages are not billed, per Tidio's pricing FAQ.
Which alternatives charge per seat instead?
LiveChat charges $19 a user on Essential, Freshchat $19 an agent, LiveAgent from $15 an agent and Comm100 $31 an agent, all billed annually. None of them meters human conversations, though several charge separately for AI resolutions.
Which alternatives have a free plan?
Crisp includes two seats, tawk.to is free for life, Smartsupp allows one operator and 25 conversations a month, and Freshchat covers up to 10 agents. Chatwoot allows two agents with 500 conversations a month, and Help Scout covers five users.
Can I self-host a replacement?
Yes, with Chatwoot. Its GitHub licence places everything outside the enterprise directory under MIT, and the pricing page points to self-hosted plans. Cloud plans run from a free tier to $19, $39 and $99 per agent a month.
Can I export my chat history from Tidio?
We could not confirm it. Tidio's help center blocked our check, so ask support for a transcript export in writing before you cancel, and test that the file opens in the new tool.
Is Tidio a Polish or an American company?
Both appear in its own documents. The terms name Tidio LLC of San Francisco as contracting party, the contact page also lists Tidio Poland Sp. z o.o. in Szczecin, and the about page says the company was founded in Szczecin in 2013.
