HubSpot Marketing Hub alternatives: 11 compared

Teams look past HubSpot Marketing Hub when the step from Starter to Professional costs thousands up front, when marketing contact tiers keep adding to the bill, or when the subscription cannot be cancelled before the term ends. Short answer: The closest replacements for HubSpot Marketing Hub in our marketing automation software ranking are ActiveCampaign, Ortto and Brevo. Why buyers look past HubSpot Marketing Hub

  1. The Professional step is large

HubSpot's product catalog lists Starter from $20 a month per seat, with form and email automation capped at 10 actions. Professional starts at $890 a month with three seats and a required one-time onboarding fee of $3,000. Enterprise starts at $3,600 a month.

  2. Marketing contacts add to the base price

Professional includes 2,000 marketing contacts. Above that, the catalog lists $250 a month per block of 5,000 contacts up to 22,000. Going over your tier is billed immediately, and a tier cannot be lowered before renewal.

  3. The term is hard to leave early

HubSpot's terms say a subscription renews automatically and cannot be cancelled before the end of the current term, with no refund of prepaid fees. Fees at renewal can rise to the then-current list price on 30 days' notice.

When HubSpot Marketing Hub is still the right choice

Stay on Marketing Hub if sales already works in HubSpot's CRM and marketing needs forms, email, landing pages and reporting on the same records. Professional is a large purchase, but a company using the suite fully pays once rather than running two tools and a sync. Leaving breaks that shared record.

What to expect when you switch from HubSpot Marketing Hub

  1. Export records, then activities

HubSpot exports records as CSV, XLS or XLSX and needs export permission. You may run 300 exports in 24 hours, and download links expire after 30 days. Activities such as calls and notes are exported separately, by contact or through the engagements API.

  2. Turn off auto-renew before the term ends

The terms say auto-renewal must be switched off in Account and Billing before the current term ends. Early cancellation is not allowed and prepaid fees are not refunded, so line up the new tool to start at your renewal date.

  3. Trim marketing contacts first

Marketing contacts set the tier you pay for. Contacts you set to non-marketing do not count, but the change applies only at the start of the next month or at renewal. Clean the list before the term ends so you migrate fewer contacts.

Questions and answers

Can I export my contacts and records from HubSpot?

Yes, HubSpot exports records in CSV, XLS or XLSX format to anyone with export permission. A download link arrives by email and expires after 30 days. Large exports can take hours and may arrive as several files in a zip.

Does a HubSpot export include activities and emails?

No, an ordinary record export downloads current property values and associations. HubSpot says contact activities such as calls and notes are exported separately, through individual contact data, certain activity reports or the engagements API.

Can I cancel Marketing Hub in the middle of a term?

No, the terms say you may not cancel before the end of the current term and prepaid fees are not refunded. Your subscription renews automatically unless you switch off auto-renewal in Account and Billing before the term ends.

Will HubSpot raise my price at renewal?

Yes, it may. On renewal HubSpot can increase fees up to its then-current list price and must tell you at least 30 days before the renewal. If you disagree, you can end the subscription at the close of the current term.

Can I lower my marketing contact tier during the term?

No, the catalog says the tier cannot be downgraded until the contract renewal date. Changing contacts to non-marketing takes effect only from the start of the next month or at renewal, whichever comes first.

What does Marketing Hub onboarding cost?

Onboarding is a required one-time fee of $3,000 on Professional and $7,000 on Enterprise, according to HubSpot's product catalog. Starter has no listed onboarding fee. Count that fee when you compare a move away from the product.
