Microsoft Intune alternatives: 13 compared

Teams look past Microsoft Intune when they do not run Microsoft Entra ID as their identity base, when per-user licensing fits a device-heavy fleet badly, or when one platform such as Apple or Android needs more depth. Most go to Hexnode or JumpCloud for mixed fleets, to Jamf or Iru for Apple.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Microsoft Intune in our mobile device management software ranking are Hexnode UEM, JumpCloud and Jamf. Choose Hexnode UEM if you want per-device pricing and mixed mobile and desktop coverage without a Microsoft bundle. All 13 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Mobile Device Management Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Microsoft Intune and when Microsoft Intune is still the better choice.

Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Microsoft Intune at a glance

  • Headquarters: United States
  • Pricing model: Per user / month
  • Pricing: Intune Plan 1 is listed at $8.00 per user per month, paid yearly, and is included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium ($22.00 per user per month), E3 and E5; add-ons such as Remote Help ($3.50) are priced separately.
  • Free option: Free trial
  • Built for: Microsoft 365 tenants with Windows laptops
  • Wrong for: Companies that run Google Workspace and mostly Macs gain little from the bundle and inherit the complexity; SimpleMDM, Mosyle or JumpCloud fit that shape of company better.

Why buyers look past Microsoft Intune

  1. It is built around Entra ID

Microsoft states that Intune identity runs on Microsoft Entra ID, and that device and app posture flow back to Entra Conditional Access. For a tenant that already lives there, that is the point. For a company on another identity provider, the product's main strength is not on offer.

  2. Licensing follows the user

An Intune license is required for any user or device that benefits from the service. A device-only subscription exists for kiosks and shared devices, but devices enrolled that way do not support app protection policies or Conditional Access. A fleet of shared hardware gets a thinner product.

  3. Platform support moves with Microsoft's window

Intune lists Android, iOS/iPadOS, Linux, macOS, Windows and Chrome OS as supported. For Apple devices with user affinity, the supported versions are iOS/iPadOS 18 and macOS 15 and later. Intune ended support for Android device administrator on GMS devices in December 2024.

5. NinjaOne

Endpoint management platform with MDM for mobiles · United States

Switch from Microsoft Intune if your IT team or managed service provider already works in a remote monitoring and patching console.

Pricing: Per-device tiered pricing with volume discounts; the pricing page gives a range from $1.50 per month at 10,000 endpoints to $3.75 at 50 or fewer, and the final figure is set with sales. (free trial)

Pricing: $3.00 per device per month on the monthly plan or $2.50 per device per month on the annual plan, no contract required; Enterprise is custom and billed annually. (free trial)

When Microsoft Intune is still the right choice

Stay on Intune if your people already hold Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E3 or E5, if Windows laptops are the bulk of the fleet, and if Entra Conditional Access is how you gate access. The license is then one you hold, Autopilot and app protection policies are part of the same console, and a second product would mean a second bill and a second console for the same devices.

What to expect when you switch from Microsoft Intune

  1. Export the inventory before you touch anything

Intune reports can be exported through the Microsoft Graph exportJobs endpoint. Select the columns you need by name, because Microsoft advises against building automation on default columns. Keep device name, owner type, compliance state, OS version, last contact and user principal name.

  2. Decide what keeps running on Intune

App protection policies work without enrolling devices and independent of any MDM solution, and Microsoft advises pairing them with Conditional Access. Some teams therefore keep Intune for work data on personal phones and move only the device management. Check what the new product offers before you drop it.

  3. Plan waves around the wipe limit

A tenant can submit up to 500 Wipe actions per day, counting single actions, bulk actions and Graph requests together. If your route involves factory resets, a large fleet moves over days, not in one night. Microsoft support can be asked to change the limit.

Questions and answers

Can I export my device list out of Intune?

Yes, through the Microsoft Graph exportJobs endpoint, which exports reports such as Devices in formats including JSON. Choose the columns by name in the request. The export gives you the inventory, not the policies, which you will rebuild in the new tool.

Does a device-only Intune license cover app protection and Conditional Access?

No. Microsoft lists Intune app protection policies, Conditional Access and user-based features such as email and calendaring as unsupported for devices enrolled with a device license. This matters when you compare shared-device pricing with other products.

Can I keep Intune app protection after moving device management elsewhere?

Yes, in principle: Microsoft says app protection policies can be used independent of any MDM solution, and that they protect company data without requiring device enrollment. Licensing and Conditional Access still apply, so confirm both before you plan around it.

Is there a limit on how many devices I can wipe a day?

Yes, 500 Wipe actions per tenant per day, counted across individual actions, bulk actions and Graph API requests. Microsoft says to contact its support to request a change. Plan factory-reset migrations in waves to stay under it.

What happens to Android devices on device administrator?

Intune ended support for Android device administrator on devices with Google Mobile Services in December 2024. User-based Android management now lists Android Enterprise methods, so a migration is a good moment to move those devices to a supported mode.

Do I need an Intune license to administer the console?

Not necessarily. Tenants created after July 2021 allow unlicensed admin access by default, for up to 1,000 unlicensed admins per security group. Older tenants must switch the setting on, and it cannot be undone afterwards.
