Teams look past Miro when the per-member price grows with every collaborator, when only three boards stay editable on the free plan, or when data must sit with a particular host. Most go to Conceptboard or Klaxoon for hosting and facilitation, to Mural for workshops, or to Lucidspark and FigJam for diagramming inside a suite.
Visibility in our rankings can be paid for. Payment moves a vendor's position within
the shortlist; it never adds a vendor, and it never changes a word of the review or of this page. The first three alternatives
go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the
established names follow in their ranked order. How it works:
placement disclosure · editorial process.
What each alternative does differently
1. Conceptboard
German-hosted whiteboard with euro pricing · Germany
A German vendor whose pricing page lists data centers in Germany on every tier and optional IONOS or StackIT hosting on Advanced and above. Starter includes facilitator tools. It has approval processes and custom branding, and a narrower integration catalog than Miro.
Switch from Miro if you need German data centers or sovereign hosting and facilitator tools in one product.
Pricing: Free plan limited to three active boards; Starter 5 EUR, Advanced from 10 EUR and Corporate & Government from 14 EUR per user per month. (free plan)

2. Klaxoon
Visual collaboration for meetings and training · France
Sold per host, not per member: the Starter plan covers up to four Pro users and a 20-participant audience. The brand now reads Klaxoon by Wrike on its own site. Built around live sessions, quizzes and training rather than a free-form canvas.
Switch from Miro if you run training sessions and meetings with large audiences and few presenters.
Pricing: Free tier with 500 MB; Starter $24.90 per host per month billed annually for up to 4 Pro users; Enterprise by quote with 5 Pro users minimum. (free plan)

3. Stormboard
Structured brainstorming that exports reports · Canada
Structured brainstorming on sticky notes and smart templates. Its pricing table shows Word, PowerPoint and Excel reports plus Google Docs, Slides and Sheets reports on paid plans, which suits teams that hand the outcome to someone else. Less suited to free-form diagramming.
Switch from Miro if you want workshop results exported as reports and action lists, not left on a canvas.
Pricing: Personal plan is free; Business is $10 per user per month billed monthly or $8.33 billed annually with a 30-day trial; Enterprise by contract. (free plan)

4. Mural
Visual workspace built for facilitated workshops · United States
The closest rival for facilitated workshops. Its pricing page lists unlimited view-only visitors on Free, unlimited editable murals from Team+, and SSO with unlimited guests on Business. Enterprise adds multiple workspaces, SCIM and audit logs on quoted terms.
Switch from Miro if your main use is facilitated workshops and you want a like-for-like canvas.
Pricing: Free with three editable murals at a time; Team+ $9.99 (monthly billing $12) and Business $17.99 per member per month on annual billing; Enterprise by quote. (free plan)

5. Lucidspark
Whiteboard from the maker of Lucidchart · United States
The whiteboard from the maker of Lucidchart, so a team that already diagrams in Lucid keeps one vendor. The free tier also limits editing to three boards. SAML sign-in is an Enterprise feature. Our category file records the Enterprise price as unpublished.
Switch from Miro if your team already draws process diagrams in Lucidchart and wants the board beside them.
Pricing: Free tier with three editable boards; Individual is listed at $9 per month billed annually, Team at roughly $9 to $10 per user per month annually, Enterprise by quote. (free plan)

6. FigJam
Figma's whiteboard for product and design teams · United States
Included in every Figma plan, priced by Figma seat type: Professional lists a full seat at $16 and a collab seat at $3 per month. It links to Figma designs. A team that wants only a canvas pays for a design platform it does not use.
Switch from Miro if your designers already work in Figma and the board should sit next to the files.
Pricing: Included in all Figma plans: Starter free, Professional $16 for a full seat and $3 for a collab seat, Organization $55 full seat, Enterprise $90 full seat per month. (free plan)

7. Whimsical
Light whiteboards, flowcharts and docs · United States
A lighter tool for flowcharts, wireframes, mind maps and docs, with a free plan and paid plans per editor. Guests and viewers do not take a paid seat. It has no facilitation set comparable to a workshop tool, so large live sessions suit it less.
Switch from Miro if you mostly draw flowcharts and wireframes for a small team and want a simpler tool.
Pricing: Free with caps on board objects; Pro $10 and Business $20 per editor per month on annual billing; viewers and guests are free. (free plan)

Open source under the MIT licence, with the editor code on GitHub and a hosted free version. Excalidraw+ adds cloud scenes, folders and access control for $6 per user per month and takes credit cards only. It has no templates library or facilitator controls.
Switch from Miro if you want a free or self-hostable sketching tool for technical diagrams and no workshop features.
Pricing: Open source and free to use; Excalidraw+ is $6 per user per month with a 14-day trial, and annual billing saves 14%. (open source)

9. Microsoft Whiteboard
Free whiteboard inside Microsoft 365 and Teams · United States
Part of the Microsoft 365 estate and used inside Teams meetings, with no separate subscription line. A fit for companies already standardized on Microsoft. Templates, voting and external-guest handling are thinner than at Miro, and the category file notes app retirements.
Switch from Miro if your company runs on Microsoft 365 and workshops are simple meetings inside Teams.
Pricing: No separate price; Microsoft states the app is free and can be signed into with a free Microsoft account or a Microsoft 365 account. (free plan)

10. Canva Whiteboards
Whiteboards inside Canva · Australia
Whiteboards sit inside the Canva design product, so a marketing team shares one account for visuals and boards. Our category file lists whiteboards as free and unlimited. Workshop tooling and diagram depth are not its focus, so engineering teams find it light.
Switch from Miro if your marketing team already designs in Canva and wants brainstorming boards in the same account.
Pricing: Whiteboards are free and unlimited; Canva states Pro is US$120 per year for one person and Business US$250 per year per person. (free plan)

Collaborative boards for posts and uploads · United States
A board of posts with files and links, laid out as a wall, grid or timeline, not an infinite canvas. It is priced flat per month, not per member. The free plan allows three padlets. Strong for collecting input, weak for diagrams.
Switch from Miro if you collect posts, links and files from a group and do not need an infinite canvas.
Pricing: Free Neon plan allows 3 padlets; Platinum is $15 per month or $120 per year; school and classroom plans are sold separately. (free plan)

Questions and answers
Can I export my Miro boards before leaving?
Yes, the Terms of Service allow export during the term and within 30 days after it. Free plans export only at low resolution, and high-resolution JPG or PDF starts on Starter.
How much notice does Miro need to cancel an annual plan?
The Terms of Service say a term renews for 12 months unless either party gives notice at least 90 days before it ends. Check your Order for any different terms.
Will my renewal price stay the same?
Not necessarily. The Terms of Service say renewal fees follow Miro's then-current rates, whatever discount the earlier Order carried.
What does Miro cost per member?
Starter is $8 and Business is $20 per member per month billed yearly. Enterprise is quoted and starts from 30 members, per the pricing page.
Which alternatives offer a free plan?
Mural, Lucidspark, Whimsical, FigJam, Canva Whiteboards, Excalidraw, Padlet, Conceptboard and Stormboard all list a free option in our category file, with different limits.
Does Miro offer regional data hosting?
Yes, on Enterprise: its pricing page lists data residency in the EU, US, Australia and Japan. Conceptboard lists data centers in Germany on every plan.
