Lokalise alternatives: 11 compared

Teams look past Lokalise when the plan steps from $149 to $379 to $1,049 a month, when fixed yearly quotas on processed words, languages and projects stop features at the limit, or when translation memory files can only be managed on the Advanced plan. They usually go to Crowdin, Phrase, Tolgee or Localazy.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Lokalise in our translation software ranking are Crowdin, Phrase and Tolgee. Choose Crowdin if you want a localization platform with a large integration list and a free route for open source work. These 11 options are lifted from the Best Translation Software in 2026 list. The write-ups look at one question, how each one differs from Lokalise, and admit where Lokalise is still ahead.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. The first three alternatives go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow in their ranked order. Why buyers look past Lokalise

  1. Plan steps are large and quotas are fixed

Lokalise lists Explorer at $149 a month, Growth at $379 and Advanced at $1,049, with Enterprise through a demo. Each plan carries fixed quotas, and the help center says an affected feature stops working when a limit is exceeded, until usage drops or the subscription is adjusted.

  2. Explorer is small

The Explorer plan covers up to 10 languages, 5 projects and 60,000 processed words a year, with 2 integrations and no Figma integration. Growth lifts languages and projects to unlimited and the allowance to 225,000 processed words. Teams that outgrow Explorer face the $379 step.

  3. Translation memory files sit behind Advanced

Lokalise offers translation memory from the Growth plan, but uploading, downloading and managing TM files starts at Advanced. A team on a lower plan can use its memory inside the product without a documented way to take the file out.

When Lokalise is still the right choice

Stay on Lokalise if your team fits within a plan's fixed quotas and the Growth or Advanced price is acceptable for what you use. Its pricing page lists AI features, branching and in-context editors on specific plans, and the help center describes 24/7 customer support on Explorer. If your processed words, languages and projects stay inside the allowances, a move would cost more than it saves.

What to expect when you switch from Lokalise

  1. Export on the plan that allows it

Check the plan before you plan the move. Translation files can be downloaded in more than 20 formats, but Lokalise does not keep file templates: a new file is generated on each export. TM files can be downloaded from Advanced upward. Run both exports during the 14-day trial of the target tool.

  2. Check references and branches

Lokalise links keys with placeholders such as [%key_id:1234%] inside translation values, and its help center notes that key referencing is a Lokalise Expert feature not available in Vantage. Downloads are branch-specific. Export each branch you rely on and test how the placeholders arrive.

  3. Import the memory on the other side

Crowdin accepts TMs in TMX, XLSX or CSV, and Weblate lists a command that imports TMX or JSON files into its translation memory. Load your approved segments before the first job, so earlier work lowers the cost of the next one.

Questions and answers

Can I export my translation memory from Lokalise?

Yes on the Advanced plan and up: the help center says uploading, downloading and managing TM files starts there. Growth includes translation memory but not file management. TMX files above 100 MB cannot be uploaded to Lokalise, which matters only if you move memory in later.

Which file formats can I export translations in?

Lokalise says it supports more than 20 file formats, grouped by web, iOS, Android and other platforms. Only keys assigned to the chosen platform are included unless you tick the option for all platform keys. It keeps no file templates, so a new file is generated on every export.

How much notice does Lokalise need to cancel?

Seven days before the renewal date on a monthly plan and ninety days on an annual plan, according to its Terms of Service. Card customers cancel under Team settings, Billing. Invoice customers email support. The subscription stays active until the end of the paid period.

Can Lokalise raise the price at renewal?

Yes: the Terms of Service reserve the right to increase fees on auto-renewal, monthly and annual. The customer may terminate within 14 days of receiving the notification, by writing to support@lokalise.com. Annual plans renew automatically unless canceled ninety days before the renewal date.

What happens to my data after I cancel?

Lokalise says it deactivates the account within six months of the effective date of termination. If you ask in writing for earlier deletion, it commits to carry that out within one month of the request. Export everything before you cancel, because the terms say you stop using the platform.

What breaks when I leave Lokalise?

Key links and per-branch work are the likeliest problems. Lokalise documents key references as placeholders in translation values and exports are generated per branch. Test one project end to end in the new tool, including placeholders, plurals and your largest branch, before moving the rest.
