The US Department of Defense (DOD) recently published its annual report for Congress about China’s  “military and security developments”. National security and foreign policy expert Lawrence Wilkerson warned that the report is a “budget ploy”, which is part of a larger and more dangerous aggressive US posture, that sees China not only as a competitor but also as a threat to vital US national security interests. He says this world-view is setting the stage for war.

Last week an unprecedented intervention occurred into the debate in the UK over the definition of antisemitism. Over 80 community, professional and rights-based organisations representing black, minority ethnic and diaspora peoples decried what they say is the framing of antisemitism in a way to ‘silence’ Palestinians, and other migrant groups, from speaking about their history.

‘Blatantly xenophobic’ and ‘shameful’ anti-refugee laws are passed by new Hungarian government, says UN

Hungary is at the forefront of delivering nativist and xenophobic laws that target refugees, migrants, and those that assist them. But the state is only a canary in the coal mine.

On World Refugee Day, 20 June 2018, Hungary passed anti-migrant laws championed by right-wing nationalist Prime Minister, Viktor Orban. The Hungarian parliament voted overwhelmingly to pass the legislative package by 180 votes 18. Amnesty International blasted the laws as ‘draconian’. The UN has decried them as “shameful”.
